NYC Teacher Claims She Was Harassed, Then Fired Over Her Christian Faith

Anita Wooten-Franci, an assistant special education teacher at PS 224, claims that she was teased, harassed and then wrongfully terminated last June.  While the school claims she was fired for allegedly grabbing a child, Wooten-Franci denies this charge and insists that her firing was based on her Christian beliefs.

NYC Teacher Claims She Was Harassed, Then Fired Over Her Christian Faith

When it came to public displays of faith, the former assistant teacher says that she was careful not to influence her students, but that she did appropriately pray, listen to Christian music and lead a worship group during “non-instructional hours.”

Wooten-Franci claims that the school’s principal — George Andrews — was vocal and often offensive about his dislike for her Christian beliefs.  She says that Andrews would frequently make negative comments and that he told her, “You can’t be praying in my school.” The New York Post has more:

In one instance, [the principal allegedly] criticized the disabled woman for using the elevator and told her to take the stairs. When she protested, he allegedly said, “Why don’t you just pray?” Then he laughed.

At the same time, she says, the school was going to hell in a handbasket, with school administrators charging students for bake sales “even though no charity received the proceeds,” and using money from the school’s Special Needs Funds to pay for lunches and parties, the suit claims.

It was after she complained about these issues that Wooten-Francis says she was slapped with a false charge (that she laid her hands on a child).  Following this allegation, she spent time in a “rubber room” and was subsequently fired.  Now, she is suing the Department of Education and is confident that “…the truth will come out.”

Glenn Beck covered this story on his show tonight. Here’s the clip:

Doesn’t seem too surprsing since the Teacher Union is coming out of their Communist hole into open light. One of thwe goal of Communism and the Illuminati, Communism is the political face of Illumuminati, is the abolition of religion. This has happened several times in Dearborn, MI where ta
principal, who is Muslim has fired Christian coaches are teachers on more than one occasion.

Yup, in a place she shoudl actually be teaching. If you want to preach and pray at school go to a religous school . I would complain abou thte teacher if that were my child in their class. School is for learning History ( real history not a fairy tale book) math, reading, writing and science. Church is for religon and that is where it should be taught. I have no problem wiht Christainity or any other religon. I just have a problem wiht it when it is in a place where my tax dollars are being spent.

She didn’t “preach” her religion to the students. It says she prayed before and after class when students weren’t present and read her Bible on her lunch break…A group of teachers got together (without students) on their own time…so I don’t see where the problem is? She has a right to pray and read whatever she wants to on her lunch break…no matter where she works!

I am sure with a screen name like yours we can all agree on your spiritual neutrality. Its awfully nice of you to honor the book of revelation like you choose to. By the way, without question, we have the religion of every student, teacher and staff member in this and every other school. You can only hope to keep it from influencing school children’s spirituality (which I do agree with).

I am not sure who is to blame here, but it sounds like the principle needs to look in the mirror if the school is as lousy and corrupt as the article describes.

Mr. Number of the Beast, There is no such thing as neutrality toward religion. If Christianity is forbidden, secular humanism steps in. You lie when you say you don’t want religion taught in schools. You just don’t want a Judeo-Christian religion taught. You would rather children to be taught the secular humanist religion that we came from monkeys and the order we find in nature is a result from random, purposeless events. As a former athiest I can say the very best way to start to unravel if there is a God or not is to accept the consequences if there is a God.

Once you can wrap you mind around that then you will have a free mind to really look at the arguments. If you cannot accept the consequneces of the existance of God you cannot rationally test the arguments.

Then what I would do is to really critically look at the point of view of logical athiests such as Nietzsche. You may find they do not hold water. Youtube also has some great debates.

I would say the insurance argument some thiests give is not good enough, it was not for me (ie I‘ll believe in case it’s true).

Uh, editor… The word is “principal” not “principle.” Sorry, that mistake was distracting me.

Now, these scenarios will continue to get worse as atheists, secular humanists and a variety of other anti-Jesus religions push Christians out of constitutional protection. It was the Christians who preached the love and grace of Jesus that allowed for liberty of conscience. Now, secular humanist and atheist religions which benefitted from liberty of conscience demand intolerance toward Christians. We gave them a hand to live in liberty to believe what they want to believe and now have turned that grace into an opportunity to persecute Christians. However, Jesus said “In this world you will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome the World.”

Thanks be to our God and savior, Jesus Christ, who, though he is God, became a man that he might make a path of redemption for us!

I knew some unsuspecting atheist would take the bait. You are religious and atheism is a religion. Yours is not the absence of faith. Your religion puts it faith in the non-existence of God. You are religious though you pretend to hate all religions. Yours is a blind faith though. I feel sorry for you. Here I have all this evidence in nature of order and design that points to a Designer. And you have no evidence from the fossil record, no evidence from simple observation of any transitional forms, not hope of ever of an experiment creating something out of nothing, yet you believe in a random, purposeless beginning anyway. I admire your faith. All this evidence against you, yet you believe it anyway.

Just pray wherever you want to. IMO, you don’t have to do it out load either. Christ hears you. You don’t have to be boisterous about it. If your are, you may be praying for the wrong reasons. God hears you without being audibly or visually forward. Just pray. Indeed… we need it.

I see the double standards from the ones that are used to getting their information totally one sided and out of context crying out for both sides of the story. Well here it is. You have read about the God side of it here and you need not go far for Satan’s side, just look within yourselves.

The progressive agenda of Christian persecution, abortion rights, Gay Marriage, etc. starts in the classroom. Is it any wonder that over 70% of young Americans are pro gay marriage? As we slept, the enemy came in and cut our throats.

How bad does it have to get before folks take an active stand against persecution of Christians? As a heterosexual Christian, you have no voice in public schools or institutions of higher learning. If you try to resist, you are branded as intolerant, racist, Islamaphobic, homophobic, Tea-******, etc.. We see recurring stories of students being charged with hate-speech or intolerance for voicing their valid opinions or asking for tolerance to their views.

Yes, as we sleep, the enemy is gutting our armed forces morale with the progressive repeal of DADT. Heterosexual service members will be required to share berths and billets with openly gay members with no regard for their religious beliefs or moral values. Why is it that we can discharge a cancer survivor from the military on medical grounds, but cannot discharge the protected HIV service members? Up is down, black is white, and right is wrong in this new progressive country that has lost it’s way and arrogantly turned from the face of God. All in the name of progressive militant multiculturalism. Tonight, Satan is smiling.

I wear my faith like a suit of armor have since I was old enough to know how. It kept me alive through 4 different campaigns and 4 different battle ribbons for same. I have a DC, Valor, Purple heart with 3 stars and a DC from Israel and they’re version of a purple heart. I have been shot, stabbed, blownup and left on the side of the road for dead and still have my faith.
So in an answer to your question I hold my faith anywhere what else can they do to me. I will walk in my faith for though I walk through the valley of death I will be comforted. I do not browbeat or preach to everyone I meet but I state my postion and refuse to be dealt a short hand because I believe.

That immediatly when you hear a story abou anti-Christian bigotry your mind lashes out at Muslims[who have nothing to do with this story] shows how brainwahed with bigotry and hatred for muslims you are. They’ve done their job well that genocidal anti muslim Fox campaign! We‘re killing and torturing and imprisoning without trial hundreds of thousanfs of muslims and have destroyed their countries yet you have been indoctrinated to believe we’re priviledging them;a lie repeated enough becomes the “truth” in gullible sheep like people.and all those mosques that can’t get built in this country where freedom of religion is tauted as an quintessesstially american values shows how anti-muslim bigotry is permissible when such bigotry against any other group would not be..

i am a christian that works for a school system around the twin cities in minnesota. i have been harassed and have been made fun of for being christian by the very person that is supposed to help straighten things like this out, the chief union steward! the only way i have kept my job here for the last 14 years is by just being smarter than them.
it seems these days that all public work places (unionized) should have a sign out front that says.- christians, republican, conservatives, free thinkers, or basicly anyone that isn’t a sheeple need not apply. you are definately not welcome! sign should say progressives, commies and marxists only.
……. hi ho, hi ho, its off to work i go. p.s. that union steward has been made some type of president down at the union headquarters! even after numerous complaints from lots of the rank and file.
      go figure.

Why is it that a child molester is impossible to fire, but a teacher reading HER BIBLE ON HER OWN TIME in school is fired so easily? Anyone say double standard? I have said it before, and I will again. HOME SCHOOL your kids, if you don’t you are causing them to be indoctrinated in BS that is useless in the real world.
