NYC’s Muslim Cabbies Can Now Nix Racy Ads From Top of Cars

A group of New York City Muslim cab drivers won the right in court yesterday to veto advertisements displayed on their vehicles for strip clubs.
The New York Post reported on the cabbies’ victory today, which means devout Muslims won’t have to parade around images of scantily clad women everywhere they drive anymore.
The case put in front of the Taxi and Limousine Commission wasn’t as obvious as it might seem at first. There are two property holders involved in a taxi.
Cab drivers in New York often own the actual vehicles they drive, but the medallion– the badge attached to the hood that legally gives the right to transport passengers for cash– is generally owned by someone other than the driver, oftentimes a large company.
Generally, the medallion owners wanted the most ad cash they could get. The drivers didn‘t want to be traveling billboards for gentlemen’s clubs.
To say the disparity led to conflicts over cultural norms would be an understatement. In one particularly embarrassing incident cited by the Post, a Muslim cab driver told the Taxi Commission that his 6-year-old granddaughter once told him she wanted to be a “dancer” because she saw the strip club ad atop his taxi.
But now, the driver gets to make the final call.
As long as the wheelman owns the taxi, his or her sense of propriety will be the last word on the rooftop banner ads.

The reason for that is the Muslims already know they are despised in this country and know they had better sweep the trouble they cause back under the carpet. It’s all very simple to solve these control issues slowly taking place and that is to completely Boycott the Muslims businesses. It’s the same thing with Chinese merchandise. A boycott all around the country needs to occur in order for changes to really take place. It may mean putting some people out of business, but I know in my heart it will eventually lead to more American product. The United States Govt will never stand up to China because they have placed us in so much debt. So don’t ever expect Your Govt to stand up for you, because only the people of this country can change things and I hope someday this wonderful country shapes up, because right now it’s a disgrace. The relationship is more like an ownership partner that has no say in who is allowed to invest in a company owned jointly. This ruling should be applauded for restoring rights to the property-holders. That’s not special treatment, it’s finally become fair between medallion holders and cab owners.

The owner of the medallion has their life saving invested in the cab. This ruling should be appealed and corrected. It should not be based on someones religious beliefs but rather the first amendment and legality of the sign. Where did the judge go to law school?

If I were a cab driver in NYC, as a Christian I would not feel right at all to drive a vehicle that had a trashy ad for something that is immoral. Christians should speak out about this stuff too!

Private company contracts the owner and serves him with a medallion.
Company decides which advertisements will draw more revenue for the company.
Contractor decides that he will not allow said advertisement on his vehicle.
Company terminates contractors contract and seeks contracts with other cab owners.
Where and how am I wrong here.
This has absolutely nothing to do with the Muslim’s belief. It has everything to do with the private enterprise of a company seeking to enhance profits.

Posted on September 17, 2011 at 4:05amI guess the moral of this story is that Christian cab drivers, who own their own cars, are happy to sit under signs promoting lust, sin, alcohol and promiscuity. At the same time it is obvious that these Muslim cab drivers live by their morality do not not want to advertise those things, repugnant to both Islam and Christianity, on their privately owned vehicle.
This is just a another case of “what is best for the rich” almost, but not quite, trumping morality. It looks like in this case, religious beliefs won the day. I love this country. It’s good to see that America still has some morality left.

It works both ways here……
If Muslims are to live in the US, they must abide by our laws. Muslims must also accept that there will be times when they will be exposed to parts of our culture that they do not like or agree with.
My daughters were exposed to sleazy ads and window displays when they were growing up, and now my grand-sons see those same things, only it is more graphic these days.
Maybe girly magazines or lingerie ads will be next. Maybe no underwear ads in the circulars. How about no ‘gentlemans clubs’ within 2 blocks of a mosque?
I’ll be watching very closely for other examples of this same type of thing to happen in the future for the sake of Muslim beliefs. Be vigilant for the slow creep of Muslim intrusion into ‘our’ culture.
Private enterprise cannot be dictated to by religious principle, but, rather, by demand. If you sell a product that people do not want, you lose.

I tend to agree with your position. The less smut in our society the better.
And, how is this different from a Catholic medical professional not wanting to associate themselves with any type of birth control? Or, a Catholic hospital not wanting to perform abortions?
I prefer avoiding business with those I don’t want here.

For those of you that have never had the pleasure of riding in a Muslim cab, you get to fear for your life, while they drive like a five year old, all the while yammering in their language with someone on a cell phone. Muslim drivers are rude, arrogant and dismissive, while their cabs are filthy and smell like a cross between cheap cologne and unwashed flesh…..disgusting!!

I only lived in NYC for a few years, but just say NO, when a Muslim cab driver stops. Eventually they will find out this America and we live under JUDEO/CHRISTIAN VALUES, and even if the mayor of NYC let them win at 9/11, the Towers belonged to all of us.
