NYPD Hero Cop Killed By Recently-Released Violent Felon With A Warrant

Peter Figoski was a veteren NYPD officer with 22 years of distinguished service to the city of New York. He was also a devoted dad to his four young daughters who must now face the coming Christmas and their future without the father who sacrificed much of his personal life for them.

Career Criminal Kills NYPD Hero Cop

Yesterday, officer Figoski was shot and killed by a man who by most evaluations, should have still been in jail.

The alleged cop killer is Lamont Pride, a career criminal who was arrested last month and charged with felony possession of drugs. Pride’s arrest should have triggered a simple background check that would have revealed the man had a serious criminal record including an outstanding warrant from North Carolina where he was wanted on weapons and assault charges.

Despite the outstanding warrant and the current felony charges for drug possession, the District Attorney’s office suggest a bail amount of $2500.

Judge Evelyn Laporte (profiled in the clip below during Hispanic Heritage week 2006) was presiding over the bail hearing and was even more lenient, refusing to set any bail for Lamont Pride.

The NY Post reports the judge’s statement at the bail hearing:

“I am not going to set bail” for Pride, Laporte said, “even though the drugs were [found] pursuant to a search warrant.”

The crook was set free, released on his own recognizance and told to return to court later in November. Lamont Pride did not show up in court.

Early yesterday morning, Pride and another man were reportedly involved in a burglary in the Cypress Hills section of Brooklyn. Officer Figoski and his partner Glenn Estrada responded to a call for backup and ended up being ambushed by the two suspects.

Pride shot Figoski in the face, killing him and then attempted to flee the scene. Estrada chased the killer for a few blocks, finally capturing him. The second suspect remains at large.

This security camera video showing a potential witness to the killing has been released by the NYPD:

The horrific loss of a veteran police office, father and hero is only made worse by the realization that none of it would have happened if the career criminal had remained in jail. A New York Post editorial asks the question, “Why Was He Freed To Kill?”

Melissa Russo of WNBC in NY has the latest details;

The tragedy of Peter Figoski’s death is compounded by the realization that this did not have to happen. The New York Post has established a fund for the education of the slain officer’s four daughters.

“I am not going to set bail” for Pride, Laporte said, “even though the drugs were [found] pursuant to a search warrant.”

Anybody who thinks this black DID NOT set bail on this black criminal because he was black and she is a hate-America-and-the-white-power-structure-advocate is a fool of the highest order.

Black anti-white hate runs throughout the black community to black flash mobs to the many beatings and murders we see in the news every day.

Even a black preacher, Jesse Peterson, has tried to tell white, brainwashed fools that, but they’re too programmed to believe it, thinking that saying so would be “racist.” They couldn’t think objectively if their lives depended on it.

But, on second thought, their lives could WELL depend on it.

This is a time to strengthen our commitment to multiculturalism diversity and to Israel. Not a time for division. We must respect all minorities and aid them in assimilating. It will take time but we must be patient because America is a melting pot.

Multi-culturalism diversity is a cultural-Marxist farce of the first order. The Dis-honorable judge Evelyn Laporte adhered to her code of social-justice, which resulted directly in this police officer being shot & killed. As soon as the elections of 2012 are history & Marxists of all ilk are thrown out of office, especially Obama, police officers need to return to the code of eliminating judges like this one by never allowing a minority to appear in her courtroom until she is removed from the bench. “N – J – squared = justice….No Judge, No Jury.

At first I was rather befuddled that an NCIC check was not made right away. Apparently it was and this lies squarely in the judge’s lap. As many of these judges that I am am certain that most cops no longer trust, this one sounds like a good reason to start impeachment proceedings against.

I do hope that was sarcasm. This judge is typical of racist judges who only consider whether or not the accused is of the same race as they are then act in their favor every time if they are. Our judicial system is badly broken and needs an overhaul.

LaPorte recognized that Pride had been kept down by The White Man and didn’t want “her People” to look bad so she gave him the opportunity to be free that no oppressive 1% honky trash judge would have given him. If the officer hadn‘t been standing in front of Pride’s .38 Special, this never would have happened. Nothing to see here folks! Just ask DOJ’s Holder.

Agreed. That is why we call it crime and punishment. Jails are for punishment, not rehabilitation. Once punished, the criminal should be responsible for his/her rehabilitation. If they do not rehabilitate themselves, give them more punishment. If they continue, get rid of them… hang’em high.

It will soon become evident, even to the most stupid, that we have a black problem in this country, be it on the bench or in society. Violence, like sickle cell disease, is directly proportional to the percent of dark skinned people in a given population. This is fact, not racism. Time we get back reason and rationality.

I’ll be the first to say it. The judge that didn’t set the bail for this animal has the blood and life of this police officer on her hands. She failed to do her job and I hate to say she probably paved the way for his release under political or racial ideals.

As for Lamont Pride… Does that particular state still employ the death penalty? Hope he gets it. So we can watch the left cry out for leniency and eventually succeed in getting the sentence overturned 30 years from now just like we saw last week. Remember, the left favors cop killing criminals over the officers they kill.

As for cop killings in general, it would appear the war on cops has resumed. My prayers to the family of the victim. And scorn for those responsible!

If I remember correctly, NY does not have the death penalty. When I was stationed there in the ’60s, this was the same area where two people, who had legal guns, defended themselves from being knifed and spent months in jail for the defense of their life (the charge was discharging a firearm within the city limits). It took a meeting of concern citizens outside the courthouse to get the charges dropped. Of course, the city did not repay them the pay or in one of the cases, provide him a job because he had lost his while in jail.
