Obama 2012: President Announces Re-Election Bid With Campaign Video

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — President Barack Obama formally launched his re-election campaign Monday, urging grass-roots supporters central to his first campaign to mobilize again to protect the change he’s brought in his first term.

The official start of his second White House bid comes 20 months before the November 2012 election.

“We’re doing this now because the politics we believe in does not start with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you – with people organizing block-by-block, talking to neighbors, co-workers, and friends. And that kind of campaign takes time to build,” Obama said in an e-mail to supporters.

He told them he was filing the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, and directed them to his new campaign website where a launch video featured snippets from supporters testifying about their continued backing of the Democrat.

The step was widely expected and planned to coincide with the second fundraising quarter of the year. Filing paperwork will allow the president to begin raising money in earnest for what advisers hope will be a record-breaking haul of more than $1 billion.

Obama’s e-mail statement is below:

Today, we are filing papers to launch our 2012 campaign.

We’re doing this now because the politics we believe in does not start with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you — with people organizing block-by-block, talking to neighbors, co-workers, and friends. And that kind of campaign takes time to build.

So even though I’m focused on the job you elected me to do, and the race may not reach full speed for a year or more, the work of laying the foundation for our campaign must start today.

We‘ve always known that lasting change wouldn’t come quickly or easily. It never does. But as my administration and folks across the country fight to protect the progress we’ve made — and make more — we also need to begin mobilizing for 2012, long before the time comes for me to begin campaigning in earnest.

As we take this step, I’d like to share a video that features some folks like you who are helping to lead the way on this journey. Please take a moment to watch [see video above].

In the coming days, supporters like you will begin forging a new organization that we’ll build together in cities and towns across the country. And I‘ll need you to help shape our plan as we create a campaign that’s farther reaching, more focused, and more innovative than anything we’ve built before.

We’ll start by doing something unprecedented: coordinating millions of one-on-one conversations between supporters across every single state, reconnecting old friends, inspiring new ones to join the cause, and readying ourselves for next year’s fight.

This will be my final campaign, at least as a candidate. But the cause of making a lasting difference for our families, our communities, and our country has never been about one person. And it will succeed only if we work together.

    He can’t win, he is losing core constituency support that he had in the last election. The youngster support is softer this time, he doesn’t have support of 66% of the white vote, the woman vote went to the Rs in 2010 over 50% for the first time in several elction cycles, and redistricting will hurt the Dems down the ticket. Also, he loses 7 electoral votes due to the 2010 census results based on the states votes back in 2008.

    So how does he win?

      Unfortunately it the way our election are setup. When you are having just about every state in the union having a primary on different time period. All the candidates cannot afford to stay in unto the end. Leaving the ones with the most money Winning. To me this is wrong because the states that are at the end of list on primary do not get vote on all the candidates originally running.

      Beck is right, it starts with God. I know many are suspicious because he is a Mormon and he reaches out to Jews, Muslims, and all denominations of Christians, but his point is simple. Your theology does not matter to the US corporately. You just need to turn back to the values God has given us. Even atheists need to embrace these morals. Otherwise…We will slip into the same cesspool that most of the rest of the world inhabits.

      Personally though, I am praying for rapture, not revival. I believe we have arrived at the end times. If not my generation then my childrens.

    Dear American Taxpayer
    For only the second time in my adult life, I am not ashamed of my country. I want to thank the hard working American people for paying $242,000 for my vacation in Spain . My daughter Sasha, several long-time family friends, my personal staff and various guests had a wonderful time. Honestly, you just haven’t lived until you have stayed in a $2,500.00 per night suite at a 5-Star luxury hotel. Thank you also for the use of Air Force 2 and the 70 Secret Service personnel who tagged along to be sure we were safe and cared for at all times. Those costs were extra so I don’t know how much they were.

    Air Force 2 only used 47,500 gallons of jet fuel for this trip and carbon emissions were a mere 1,031 tons of CO2. These are only rough estimates, but they are close. That’s quite a carbon footprint as my good friend Al Gore would say, so we must ask the American citizens to drive smaller, more fuel efficient cars and drive less too, so we can lessen our combined carbon footprint.

    I know times are hard and millions of you are struggling to put food on the table and trying to make ends meet. I do appreciate your sacrifice and do hope you find work soon. I was really exhausted after Barack took our family on a luxury vacation in Maine a few weeks ago. I just had to get away for a few days!

      About 47 percent of Americans will pay no federal income taxes this year; 40 percent of those people will receive some form of a refundable credit (i.e., they will have paid no income taxes, but will still get a tax “refund” check from the IRS). These are the people who still think Obama is doing a great job.

      Call your Governor’s Office – and find out if there is any legislation in place –

      that – by law – requires long-form birth records = exact proof of birthplace, location, hospital and doctors.

      Some states are requiring that an affidavit be provided by political parties – to certify that their presidential candidate has been “vetted” – along w the long-form birth certificate.

      A vault long form birth certificate proving citizenship is not enough to be President!

      Article 2, Section 1, of the Constitution uniquely requires only the President to be a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN, not just a citizen! The Founding Fathers stipulated that just being a citizen is enough for Congress but not for President. They purposefully made the distinction for a reason. NATURAL BORN CITIZENS are those ‘born in the U.S. of U.S. citizen parents (plural) meaning of both soil and blood.

      Obama admitted this himself as a co-signer of the investigation into whether or not McCain was born on American soil of TWO American citizen parents!

      “My assumption and my understanding is that if you are born of American parents, you are naturally a natural-born American citizen,” Chertoff replied.

      I’m sure all the union members who live in non-right-to-work states, whose union dues will go to his candidacy, are thrilled. Especially those who don’t support him. Unions were a good thing back in the days when my grandfather was an ironworker; they sure have gone to hell since then.

      Sombody posted a website on The Blaze a day or two ago. It was about an organization (volunteer) for people to mind / man the voting polls to insure legit voters were going in. Also checking ID, insuring privacy, etc, etc…. Anybody have that? I don’t remember which article it was posted on (severe case of late middle age / CRS.) If we do not stay vigilant, we’ll have to endure 4 more years of this schmuck. I don‘t know about anybody else but I can’t do it. AND, I don’t want to move to Canada… I don’t like the cold. Please, lets band together & do what we have to. After all, that‘s what they’re doing. Let’s not rely on hope alone. We need a real president that wants our country to be free as it once was.       Deadly serious about this: The only way we will keep him out of a second term is to educate the public on economics. Once people understand the crisis we are about to go through because of deficit spending they will be thanking anyone that backs SERIOUS budget cutting.

      The only hope I see for us to avoid a collapse now is if the GOP has the courage to stick to their guns (figure of speech, and not hate speech) and make the huge cuts we need. If they do, and can let our creditors know we are serious about reform, we MAY be able to stop the fall into the abyss. If not, then I fear greatly for our children, cause it will be far too late for us.
