Obama Ad Slams Romney for Pledging to Defund Planned Parenthood: ‘This Is Not the 1950’s’

Obama for America Ad Slams Mitt Romney for Vowing to Cut Taxpayer Funding for Planned Parenthood: Not the 1950s

Barack Obama’s re-election campaign has released a new ad slamming Mitt Romney’s record on Planned Parenthood, featuring two women who imply the Republican presidential candidate wants to bring the country back to the 1950′s.

At a brief 32-seconds, the ad begins with Barack Obama approving the message, before one woman says: “I think Mitt Romney is really out of touch with the average woman’s health issues.”

Another adds: “This is not the 1950′s.  Contraception is so important to women…It’s about a woman being able to make decisions.”

At the same time, the screen flashes to an image of the Republican presidential candidate with the words: “Mitt Romney opposes requiring employers to cover contraception.”

Here is the entire ad:

One woman then says she doesn’t remember “anyone” as extreme as Mitt Romney.

“I think Romney would definitely drag us back,” she concludes.

Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul responded:

“One day after the unemployment rate increased and we reached 42 consecutive months with a jobless rate greater than eight percent, it is not surprising that the Obama campaign would release a false ad in an attempt to distract from the effects of the President’s failed policies.  

Dishonest political attacks will not change the fact that President Obama has not turned around the economy, and his policies have hurt women and families all over the country.  We tried it the President’s way, and middle-class workers have paid the price.  Mitt Romney has a Plan for a Stronger Middle Class that will jumpstart the economy and bring back millions of jobs.”  [Emphasis added]

WeaselZippers mocked the premise, writing: “The horror of opposing the use of taxpayer funds to kill the unborn.”

      Many people, both male and female, like to have sex. When ya think about it, every living thing on the planet Earth, every individual member of every species in trying to pass its genes onto the next generation. Once the needs for food and water are satisfied every organism on this planet is trying to procreate. It is a strong drive. And for any of you who aren’t Baptists, it fun too. And something that deepens the bond between people.

      The human species has risen above the blind evolutionary drive to make more humans. The world has changed, and having as many babies as possible is recognized by most as something that is no longer useful to the species. We don’t need unwanted pregnancies in this country or in any other. There are already plenty of people in the world, and the evolutionary drive to produce more is now counterproductive.

      We can tell people they shouldn’t have sex and hope for the best. Good luck all you who preach abstinence, but you and I both know that won’t work.

      I have an idea. Let’s make it easy to get birth control. No, don’t thank me. I’m sure other people thought of that before me.

      Git-R-Done, I have an idea. Why don’t pay through increased hospital costs and increased insurance costs for every uninsured person who walks into an emergency room at a hospital to have a baby delivered or because they have any medical emergency.

      Never mind. You already pay for that. But I am glad you’re so willing to to pay for medical care for the poor and give a little extra to help insurance companies stick it to ya.

      @JZS…Abortion is not contraception. Planned Parenthood is not in the contraception business. It’s in the abortion business. If they were into contraception, they would balk at girls coming in for abortions repeatedly. They don’t. A 21 year old with 5 abortions under her belt (through “Planned Parenthood”), says NOTHING about contraception. How is it I, a poor, uneducated, overall wearing, inbred, bigoted, homophobic, conservative with missing teeth and one finger buried in my nose, managed to figure out contraception? Heck. I can’t even read. One of my dogs is taking dictation from me. I am so hampered by my conservative values, and yet, I managed to not have “unwanted” pregnancies.       I have a question for you?
      If someone doesn’t have health insurance now, which is ILLEGAL, and they paid the tax for NOT HAVING INSURANCE, what happens if they need medical attention and go to the emergency room? Will they be treated??? If they are, then what is the difference from before other than they have $750 less in their pocket? And if they do get treated, then I guess it makes sense for me to drop my coverage and just pay the $750.

Don’t you believe that the human mind can come up with ways to feed the people of the world. Because of UN Agenda 21, smaller farms are being forced out of business. If those that govern foreign countries were not extremely corrupt, the billions we send to those countries would reach the poor, farming supplies could reach the poor.       When Romney gets elected I hope he downsizes government and make the unresponsible people get counsling and then they can pay for an abortion or have the baby and put it up for adoption. There is a white family at church that adopted two African children and added them to their family of their two kids. They did this because our government paid for the whole deal and even the transportation over there and back +a monthely check for upkeep If they had adopted two kids here it was $10,000 each.     Planned Parenthood obviously is not working with more unmarried women having children or abortions more than ever in the history of America. Birth Control pills were designed to effectively protect women from unwanted pregnancy, while at the same time enjoy intercourse. Unfortunately, women are using abortion as their back up plan against unwanted pregnancy. Is that what you call progression, if you want true progression, then have yourself-sterilized permanently so you will never get pregnant and thus save the wear and tear on your body and soul.

The 50′s sucked, just look at the equal rights movements for both women AND minorities that had to happen in this country after that time. Stop beating yourselves up so much, the America you see now is far superior to the one of the 50′s whether you realize it or not.     I can think of a few other things to de-fund: the Department of Education, ATF, the Department of Labor and especially the NLRB, most of the EPA, USDA, and FDA, the Department of Transportation, all the czars, much of Homeland Security, most of the Commerce Department, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (a travesty!), 2/3 of the State Department, and most of Health and Human Services. And get rid of the Fed. Anybody got any other ideas?

      Your claim has been debunked with the crime rates going dramatically up in the 1960s with the introduction of the Great Society but the crime rates in this country went down with the welfare reform act of the 1990s.
