Obama Admin Scolds Israel for Building Plans in East Jerusalem

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration says it is “deeply concerned” by Israeli approval of new housing construction in disputed east Jerusalem.
The State Department says such “unilateral actions work against efforts to resume direct negotiations” and the spirit of the peace process. In a statement, the department says it has raised its objections with the Israeli government.
Last week, an Israeli planning commission approved 930 new housing units in the Har Homa neighborhood in east Jerusalem. Actual building is at least two years off.
Alongside its rare rebuke of a close ally, the State Department said Israelis and Palestinians should settle their differences on Jerusalem through negotiation.
Israel captured east Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war and claims it as part of its capital. Palestinians hope to establish their future capital there.

Pelosi said we didn’t have to know what was in it before it was signed. I for one was happy with the insurance I had and I paid for myself without government interference. Posted on August 9, 2011 at 4:15pmwell, lets see. every year we give the israelis a base of 3 billion dollars a year in foreign aid.they also receive525.8 million through other u.s. government budgets. on top of that another 2 billion dollars in loan gaurantees, for a total of $5,525,800,000.some estimate as high as 114 billion a year because of deals no one knows about. between 2009 and 2018 we are scheduled to give them 30 billion in military aid. now. without going into the religion thing, what do we get in return? help in afghanistan? no. help in iraq? i don’t believe so. help in any natural disasters? haven’t heard of any. i remember a long time ago buying some wheel bearings for my truck, and i noticed they were made in israel. but they weren’t given to us. so can any one please tell me why we should give them all that money that we don’t have. stability in the middle east? well, thats not working so well. some sort of guilt trip? that sounds close. oh well, it,s only money.
