Obama Administration Urges Union Protesters to ‘Keep Fighting’

During a conference call this week with the Communications Workers of America (CWA), U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis expressed the Obama administration staunch support for union workers who are fighting Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s proposed budget legislation. Obama Administration Urges Union Protesters to Keep Fighting

“Let’s keep fighting,” Solis reportedly told CWA president Larry Cohen and thousands of union members listening on the call. (Click here to listen to the audio)

“I‘m very excited to hear about the enthusiasm that’s going on in Wisconsin and around the country,” Solis said. “I am so inspired and proud of all of you, especially those who went down to Wisconsin and also around the country.”

Washington Examiner’s Byron York reports:

On more than one occasion, Solis referred to herself as part of the pro-union, anti-Walker cause. “I say let’s keep fighting,” Solis said, “let’s stand up for all workers, and let’s mobilize and do what we do best, and that is to make sure that the American public understands that union rights are no different from human rights.” On another occasion, Solis said, “We are willing to meet those folks at the table,” referring to Gov. Walker and the Republican legislative majority in Wisconsin.

At the end of Solis’ remarks, Cohen, the CWA president, said, “I think all of us feel like those were historic words, for a member of the cabinet standing with us as clearly as you do, and, as you remind me, speaking for the president.”

After a statement early in the Wisconsin standoff that Walker’s proposed limits on collective bargaining represented “an assault on unions,” President Obama has stayed largely quiet about the Wisconsin standoff, as have most administration officials.

As Labor Secretary, Solis’ job is “to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States,” according to the Department’s website. The mission statement does not mention unions. “The Labor Department should not represent only that part of the workforce that is unionized,” Elaine Chao, Labor Secretary under George W. Bush, told the Washington Examiner earlier this week. “It should be responsible for the overall welfare of the entire American workforce.”

Last weekend, Solis also spoke at the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) winter meeting in Washington and praised “our brothers and sisters in public employee unions” who are “under assault” in Wisconsin and elsewhere.

    Insane… as if McNamara had called for support of the protesters at Kent State… and even without that, we all know where that went. All this does is encourage more violence… and it’s only coming from one side… so it must be condoned also, right?

    You notice that the union has not responded to the Gov’s offer and now he is telling them that layoffs are coming very soon and still nothing. I do think they are planning trouble the democrats are now going to be arrested. I am sure Obama has his people getting ready for some kind of violent event or up rising that he will assist to the utter shock and dismay of us all.

    President Obama has to get his priorities together. He is the president of the United States. He represents all of us. He’s no longer a community Organizer. If he wants to be an Organizer then he must give up the Presidency. Think about it. How much help was the Union in the last elections??? Theres realy not that many of them Mr. President.       So let’s get this straight The PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES is inciting protest,civil discourse and possible violence in states already going bankrupt. Knowing the states budgets are already strapped and the cost of polkicing these protest will only further hurt thye state’s budgets. These actions should be grounds for impeachment.

    Unions are communist in nature. when a man -or woman can‘t fullfill they’re own needs and demand what is truely they’re own worth,I can not understand the mentallity of people who need others to speak for themselves, if you can demand x amount offf $ for your time ,well then that iss capitalism, if you need to pay another party to force someone to pay yopu X $ then,you must be union…I myself will speak for myself and do what I can to provide for my family,I refuse to pay someone else to bargain for myself or my family

    Solis was on CNN this morning and her incompetence was evident in the three minutes she was on. She struck me as someone capable of working the counter at the DMV, but no way this woman should be working at a level beyond this.

    If you can, try to find her interview and you’ll see what I mean. It frightens me to consider the level of incompetence that exists in the White House today.

      Thats a slippery slope Restored one, a decisive and very poignant case needs to be drawn up with specific examples lest we end up with impeachment proceedings every 4 years or every new president out of retaliation. Can the case be made? Yes, but we have to make sure it is a very lock solid open and shut case, not something where the lines have been blurred.

      I went independant after John McCain was sent back to Washington last year from Arizona. I do not believe the Republican Party has what it takes to fix this country anymore.

      I remember on my 18th birthday I proudly walked up to a Republican voter registration booth… and now at 29 I can no longer stand behind them. Makes me sad honestly.

      I agree. This was the last straw for me. Our leaders are divided on this issue to the point where the liberals have fled the state to avoid voting. The president should bring everyone together and push for a peaceful resolution. Definitely not to let his administration spout golden lines like “I say let’s keep fighting”.

      I am contacting my congressman Monday morning, and I suggest that we ALL do!

      The House Representative is the one who should be contacted with our reasons for impeachment. Put his number and that for each of the Senators for your state in your phone, because you’re going to be needing those numbers.

      Also, if you write letters, send them to their district office(s) because it takes 2 to 4 weeks for it to clear security in D.C.

      I don’t mean to speak for all real Americans, but this is my observation.
      The founders created our Constitutional Republic in order to allow us the confrontation needed for growth, for many years we’ve quarreled within the limits and law of the constitution, a cold civil war that has made America the greatest country in the world.

      We are no longer working together towards a common goal, the progressives have so subverted the constitution even we who still believe in it, find it difficult on a daily bases to fight within its limits. I can only believe this was by design, we hate and fight each other at a level none of us have seen in our lifetimes.
      Our domestic infighting has kept us safe over the years because we’ve stayed within the rule of law, but now with the progressive weakening of our constitution foreign intruders are allowed to disturb our domestic tranquility.
      I say they have misjudged our peaceful outward demeanor as freedom loving individuals, they somehow see it as weakness, but they don’t understand that over the last 10 years and even more so the last 3 we’ve spent more time directing our anger inward, anger at ourselves for allowing things to get to this point. We Americans are awakening and taking responsibility for our blindness; more of us are anchoring ourselves in the foundation of God.
      We pray for peace, but I often wonder what the Lord meant when he said: “I came not to send peace but a sword”?

      Obama doesn‘t want to discuss these issues in an open forum because then he’d have to answer the objections to his belief that there are such a thing as group rights.

      INDIVIDUALS have rights, and they can group together to help each INDIVIDUAL move in one direction, but this is NOT the same as GROUP RIGHTS. As a GROUP, the Constitution does not recognize them as having rights. But as INDIVIDUALS working together with other INDIVIDUALS, they may be able to persuade other INDIVIDUALS to support their cause and have a movement for political change. But whatever policies emerge must respect each INDIVIDUAL’S unalienable rights – there are no GROUP rights.

It will end well when the assets belonging to the Unions are seized when the businesses in Wisconsin file a class action suit to recover financial losses, repair and damage costs, and cleanup costs. As a matter of fact it will end real well when all future groups associated with this major terrorist campaign must post huge deposits equal to the costs of potential police costs, vandalizing costs, and cleanup costs experienced this time around, before they can get any more permits. Personally, it is high time those Union dollars go to fix what their members and goons cost taxpayers. Enough is enough.

      O’carter knows he can’t bluff his way in next time. States have passed laws that will force him to produce his birth certificate. Unions are organized, the Tea Party isn’t. We the People have a right to organize and speak with a single voice, same as the Tea Party, same as the PTA, same as a neighborhood association. This is America, land of the free. And American citizens cannot denied the right to associate, reach agreement and bargain as group. That’s Democracy and a right guaranteed by the Contitution.

      You have bought the idea that any check or balance against the rich, the powerful, the wealthy corporations is communism and unpatriotic. You cling to that idea although the rich become ever richer, the middle class shrinks and the percentage of poor – the poorest among us as Christ said – becomes ever larger.

      No, this “union thing” isn’t going away. We The People have a collective voice. And we have a right to speak with a single voice.

      This administration does every thing in it’s power to divide the people in this country. That is what we get for electing a “community organizer” to the highest office in the land. I fear that by the time he is done(hopefully in 2012), this country will be so divided and damaged it mat NEVER be able to be repaired. All one need do is look at the mess created in Arizona, now it’s moved to Wisconsin and Ohio, soon it will be coming to your state, or a state near you. We have, in my opinion, the most incompetent Attorney General in recent, and probably ALL of history in Eric Holder; the same Eric Holder that FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE STATE OF ARIZONA, but declined to prosecute the OBVIOUS voter intimidation case against the NEW BLACK PANTHERS!! Can you say CONFLICT OF INTEREST? This administration has divided this country along RACIAL and SOCIAL lines since they were “sworn in” in January 2009, and I feel the damage is getting ramped up to the max, with just under two years remaining in his term.

      I had the same problem the other day and I don’t know why. Thia is only anecdotal but the only thing they had in common were links to youtube videos so, maybe that is the issue.

      We are approaching the point where it will be obvious to all that the government of the United States of America has deteriorated from a constitutional “government of the people” to an unconstitutional government of the government”.

      The union “workers” the administration supports are the favored functionaries of the ruling class government elite.

      They are organizing our new ruling class now and they have been redistributing our resources to a huge underclass of pawns ignorant to the real agenda.

      The constitution is a scrap of old paper in Washington that is applied selectively to suit the government’s purpose.

      I fear that the checkmate on the constitution and the rest of us is coming soon.

      The thing most union memebers don‘t seem to correlate is that the administration isn’t ‘standing up’ for them, but for ‘union power.’ The union leadership, not union members. As long as members do as they are told by “union leadership” things are fine. When the members begin to think for themselves that’s where the line becomes a tool for violence.

      It’s right out there for you to see, all you have to do is your OWN head and not blindly follow like a zombie.

      I have respect for the OFFICE of President, but I don’t have any respect for the individual now in that office!

      I didn’t vote for him, I was glad a black person was in the office (we could finally get post-racial I thought!), I was willing to give him a chance, but I sure ran out of patience quickly. He definitely has socialist leanings (in the least), and definitely does not understand the pulse of the real peopole of the United States.

      I’ve read this article more than once….and it disturbs me. Doesn‘t it really show where Obama’s head is at? With proof?       How strange…. all this time I thought I was a worker and a taxpayer – working 2 1/2 days to pay for the crap the government shovels and to pay the salaries and benefits for the government “workers” It was especially note worthy to me on Presidents Day when I took my happy little self to work to pay for the government “worker” to have a day off.

      I guess since I don‘t belong to union I am not a real worker and don’t deserve any consideration. Funny how the unions are always touting the evil corporations who get rich off the back of labor. Seems in regards to public sector unions, they get rich off the back of my labor. I’d say that qualifies them as evil “corporations”.

      I am not a blank check and am sick and tired of working for them to steal from me
