Obama Again Won‘t Call Armenian Deaths ’Genocide’

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Saturday marked the anniversary of the massacre of Armenians in Turkey nearly a century ago by calling it a “horrific” slaughter, but once again stopped short of branding it genocide.
In a written statement, Obama said the 1915 killings of some 1.5 million Armenians represent “one of the worst atrocities of the 20th century.” But for the third straight year, he failed to use the word genocide to describe it.
As a candidate for president, Obama repeatedly vowed to recognize the genocide once in office, vowing “a principled commitment to commemorating and ending genocide.”
But since 2009, Obama has declined to use the word in the face of furious resistance from Turkey, a key NATO ally.
Most historians see the killings as the first genocide of the 20th century, and accept the figure of 1.5 million Armenian deaths. However, Turkish leaders have long rejected the term, contending the figures are inflated and saying there were many deaths on both sides as the Ottoman Empire collapsed during World War I.
In his statement, Obama said “contested history destabilizes the present and stains the memory of those whose lives were taken.” He said America knows this from the dark chapters in its own history.
He praised efforts in Armenia and Turkey “to foster a dialogue that acknowledges their common history. ”
But Obama confined himself to using the Armenian name for the slaughter, Meds Yeghern, and paying tribute “to the memories of those who perished.”
He said his view of what took place hasn’t changed since the campaign, adding, “A full, frank, and just acknowledgement of the facts is in all our interests.”

Posted on April 24, 2011 at 2:18amObama is just living the dreams of his father and no one knows those dreams and how they should play out but Bill Ayers, the author of his books. You would not recognize genocide if you didn’t recognize terrorists attacks committed by the author of your book of dreams. Obama is in the dark and makes it his choice to stay there. I don’t know about you guys but I am ready to move into the light and I want it before 2012. I say, impeachment is the answer bc Obama sees nothing the way a true American does. He does not deserve having President in front of his name no more than a witchdoctor deserves Doctor in front of his. We have already lost respect for Obama bc most people, even on the left have dropped the President Obama and call him Mr. Obama when they are trying to build him up. If he wanted to be worth mentioning in the History books for something great, it would be to resign for lack of leadership .Many past presidents get addressed more as president than Obama does.

Posted on April 24, 2011 at 2:05amGenocide denial just assures the next genocide. What next? perhaps Israel and Iran should have an Interfaith discussion to determine if the Holocaust should be considered genocide. Hitler understood:
On August 22, 1939, in preparation for the impending invasion of Poland, Hitler stated to Reichmarshal Hermann Goering and the commanding generals at Obersalzberg…
“Our strength consists in our speed and in our brutality. Genghis Khan led millions of women and children to slaughter – with premeditation and a happy heart. History sees in him solely the founder of a state. It’s a matter of indifference to me what a weak western European civilization will say about me.
I have issued the command – and I’ll have anybody who utters but one word of criticism executed by a firing squad – that our war aim does not consist in reaching certain lines, but in the physical destruction of the enemy. Accordingly, I have placed my death-head formations in readiness – for the present only in the East – with orders to them to send to death mercilessly and without compassion, men, women, and children of Polish derivation and language. Only thus shall we gain the living space (lebensraum) which we need. Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?”

Who remembers? Obama’s actions assure the slogan “Never Again” in relation to genocides will be transformed into “One more Time.”

Posted on April 24, 2011 at 1:18amPresidents Bush and Clinton both pressured congress NOT to pass a resolution calling the slaughter of the Armenians genocide. Their reasoning was the same as President Obama’s — they didn’t want to offend Turkey, our NATO ally.
Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, is in favor of a resolution calling genocide genocide.
All politicians, democrat and republican, see their job as a balancing act. They are willing to abandon their principles when those principles interfere with other things they see as more important.

Posted on April 24, 2011 at 12:48amWhat Mr. Obama is displaying is ignorance to fact the massacre of Armenians in Turkey is one snap-shot of the crusade islam has been on since the founding of the believe system and this action is voluntary. The crusade has continued to this day and when we wake up and try to defend ourselves we are labeled crusader. Who really are the crusaders? Mr. Obama is an aspect of the failure to correct the issue before us now.

Posted on April 23, 2011 at 11:23pmNo! Think like Obama, why would Obama not say it was a genocide, because what he and his globalist masters have planned will make This look like a car wreck in comparison. We never have learned to read between his words, and that where he speaks. He said “change ” and we got it, and now we are seeing what he MENT, he says what HE means but he says it in such a way that we all can’t pin him down so we put our definitions of what he says. So when he doesn’t say “this” was a genocide, he means it isn’t because he knows something that he would count as a genocide and “this” isn’t it.
