First Family Welcomes Christmas Season, Lights National Tree

(AP/The Blaze) — Christmas has arrived in Washington.

With the flip of a switch, President Barack Obama lit the National Christmas Tree — a 40-foot Colorado blue spruce growing on a grassy area near the White House known as the Ellipse.  This year‘s celebration marked the country’s 88th tree-lighting.

Obama was accompanied by his wife, Michelle, his mother-in-law, Marian Robinson, and daughters Malia and Sasha.

B.B. King was among the performers at the hour-long event Thursday afternoon, a program which included a reading of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” by the First Lady.

President Obama delivered brief remarks to the crowd, noting his religion during a short discussion of the story of Christmas: “It‘s a story that’s dear to Michelle and me as Christians but it‘s a message that’s universal.”

The tradition dates to 1923, when President Calvin Coolidge presided over the first lighting of a national Christmas tree.

If you take a closer look the tree it is probably decorated like the prezs’ personal tree. His tree has ornaments with a picture of Mao, and other mass killers. And the reason the tree looks weird is because obama tried to blow it up with an IED. Muslim you know.

Is it me or does something look wrong with that tree? The shape perhaps? I don‘t know it just doesn’t look right.

Why is it that we can have a Christmas Tree on the Ellipse, a public place, but cities and counties nationwide are being forced to take down Nativity Scenes? Why hasn’t this argument been used to defend Christmas displays? Our President lights a tree in recognition of Christmas, Christmas, the Christ Mass, celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior. He does it in a public place in our nation’s capital. If we can have a display of Christmas there, we can have it anywhere! Stand tall Americans and bring back your local Christmas displays!

If you do indeed home school your children, you should know the difference between a tree and a natinity scene. Since you don’t, i’ll home school you. The tree is a secular image of the holiday. The nativity scene is a christian religious symbol. It is not permissable to place a religious symbol in a public (ie. government/taxpayer funded) place. If you were to put up a christian nativity scene, you would then have to honor any and all other representations of any and all other religions. To avoid having 175 different displays in front of your local court house, we as a country deceided to “separate” church from state. The tree, santa claus, rudolph etc. are not religious and therefore are considered secular and not promoting one religion over another.
