President Barack Obama said during the National Prayer Breakfast Thursday his proposal to raise taxes on the wealthy is in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ. (AP)
President Barack Obama said Thursday his proposal to raise taxes on wealthy Americans is in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
“When I talk about shared responsibility, it’s because I genuinely believe that in a time when many folks are struggling and at a time when we have enormous deficits, it’s hard for me to ask seniors on a fixed income or young people with student loans or middle-class families who can barely pay the bills to shoulder the burden alone,” Obama said during the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington.
He continued, “And I think to myself, if I’m willing to give something up as somebody who’s been extraordinarily blessed and give up some of the tax breaks that I enjoy, I actually thinks that’s going to make economic sense.”
“But for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus’ teaching that, ‘for unto whom much is given, much shall be required,’” he said.
That principle, Obama said, also “mirrors the Islamic belief that those who’ve been blessed have an obligation to use those blessings to help others, or the Jewish doctrine of moderation and consideration for others.”
“We can’t leave our values at the door,” Obama said. “If we leave our values at the door, we abandon much of the moral glue that has held our nation together for centuries and allowed us to become somewhat more perfect a union.”
Obama said he wakes up every morning and says a “brief prayer” and spends “a little time in scripture and devotion.” He said pastors sometimes come to the Oval Office to pray with him, for his family and for the country.
“But I don’t stop there, I’d be remiss if i stopped there,” Obama said. “If my values were limited to personal moments of prayer or private conversations with pastors or friends — so instead I must try, imperfectly, but I must try to make sure those values motivate me as one leader of this great nation.”
Obama’s address came amid a feud between his administration and Catholic leaders over a decision to require contraception be included in virtually all health plans. He did not mention the controversy during his remarks.

What really bothers me, though, is that Obama insists the rich should pay more but he never says how much more. The U.S. has the most progressive tax structure of any highly industrialized democratic nation and yet Obama keeps insisting the rich aren’t giving enough…. without EVER indicating how much would be enough. What does he want the top tax rate to be? 50%? 75%? 100%? I think he never says because if he did we would know exactly what he’s all about….

1. Jesus only asked for 10% in tithing to care for the poor. Obama, you are already taking around 30% and most of that is not going to the poor, but to those who are refusing to care for themselves.
2. Obama you are not asking for more money for the poor, you are asking for more money to waste on projects that are not constitutional and trying to transform this country. Your past efforts are all we need to see to convict you of your future yearnings. Please, sit down.
3. Jesus did not put the government in charge of caring for the poor. You are not only doing it wrong, you are not effective. More money has been spent on welfare than ever in history, and we have more broken families, more immorality, more moochers, and more godless people than ever. Do not invoke the Lord’s name again in your speeches, it is sacrilegious.
This country will make a change next November, however, we will not be spared the consequences of you and your administration for years to come, if ever.

Conservative; Our rights come from God and government is established to secure those inalienable rights for the people. Good government leadership stems from a humble acknowledgment that it is responsible to a higher authority. Government should govern in the fear of the Lord.
Liberal; Our rights may come from a god, but since he isn’t here at the moment, the elite and most enlightened amongst us will interpret how those god given rights will be administered. Government is the highest authority. The people are governed through fear.
All you bloggers should know that this is what we fight against. Most liberals and conservatives were raised with their particular views, so attacking the person or the program is to attack who the person is at the core. Change ones thinking about the foundation and you change the whole structure.
Read your bible, but first ask God to enlighten it to your heart through His Holy Spirit. Oh yeah. His Spirit is only given through faith in His Son.

When you tithe more than expected you are blessed more because you are apt to get God’s attention and more will be added to you. I know you‘ll never understand that but what the hell I thought I’d try Meeeeester Bible Expert in chief.
Also how do you explain Matthew Chapter 20 about those that work less but nonetheless work to receive more than those that work more receiving less. Kind of screws the minimum wage and social justice philosophy all to hell doesn’t it?
You better stick to corrupt politics and stay the hell out of religion. Caution: God may be a tad bit irritated by your political milarki and screwing with the Catholic Church over charitable and life threatening issues. This is the version preached by Latin American Communists and people like Obama’s former pastor, the notorious Reverend Wright. I guess Obama was listening to some of Wright’s sermons during his 20 years of attendance at his Chicago church after all. This version of Christianity makes it easy to rationalize their racism and their socialist philosophies and makes them willing partners with other similar organizations such as the Nation of Islam of Louis Farrakhan (who used to perform as a guest preacher at Reverend Wright church) and the New Black Panther Party.

Maybe he has obtained his wealth through the grace of God and is using it for the purposes God intended. Maybe not but who am I to judge? I take sovereignty away from God and give it to men when I engage in the practice of taking from the rich to give to the poor. How much true charity towards the poor and the disadvantaged has been stifled by the absolute (total, complete, prophetic, damming) LIE that giving to government is a charitable act.
Why aren’t we ever given the amount of true charity that goes on in this country? Because most true Christians don’t give and do charitably for the applause of men. They do it because the need exists and God places it on their hearts to do something. They know their reward is in heaven.

But, did Christ say she paid it to caesar so that is what made her remarkable?

She gave it to the temple.

The original is in Greek and the word, “agape” is the Greek word used here as “charity” or “love”.
In Greek, the word agape means both “charity” and “love.”

The Churches and other charity organizations do way more for the people than the Government does. I on occasion have had to seek their charity. I have been a homeless Vet and the charity of others helped me out the Government gave me no help. I do my best to lend a hand to the needy and poor but it is very rude to tell someone to give. You can ask but you cannot tell their is a difference.
If you were raised by your white grandmother you were surely rejected and that explains a lot.

Report Post »If I wanted advice on the most efficient way to help the most with $1 million, I would not choose a federal employee who earns $150K. I would ask the successful business person who has instead chosen a career path where they earn $5 million or more. If instead, I told that business person “I will ask that federal employee to try to outsmart you so they can take $1 million more of your money to spend on something you do not support,” I would be an idiot to think that the business person would not be smart enough to prevent that from happening.
When talking about how much the rich pay in taxes, we need to use actual numbers. For example: A couple filing jointly with two kids pays $686 on $50K AGI (1.4%), $8644 on $100K (8.6%), $26225 on $150K (17.5%), $42225 on $200K (20.1%) or about $300K on $1 million. These are with standard deductions, but in most cases claiming higher deductions cannot keep pace with the increasing tax rates.
When anyone says “The rich should pay more,“ ask how much their AGI is and ask ”How much less than $700K should the rich have left from $1 million?”

Once again, Obama takes scripture and turns it into a sound bite for socialism. As far as the wealthy are concerned, even if they inherited their wealth, someone, somewhere down the line actually worked to earn the wealth. Career welfare recipients really are under obligation to try to better themselves. No way, no where does God condone stealing by the government.
