Obama Bashes GOP Over Booing of Gay Soldier’s Question

President Barack Obama slammed the GOP presidential candidates hoping to unseat him for not speaking out when a gay soldier’s question was booed during the last Republican debate in September.
“We don’t believe in a small America,” Obama told the Human Rights Campaign, a prominent gay rights group, in a speech Saturday. “We don‘t believe in the kind of smallness that says it’s okay for a stage full of political leaders — one of whom could end up being the president of the United States — being silent when an American soldier is booed.”
“You want to be commander in chief?” Obama said to cheers. “You can start by standing up for the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States, even when it’s not politically convenient.”
Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, to whom the question about reinstating “don’t ask, don’t tell” was directed, later said he didn’t hear the booing from the stage and condemned it the following day.
Saturday’s comments were the first time Obama openly criticized the Republican field over the incident, though he briefly referred to it earlier in the week during a speech at a fundraiser in California.
“You‘ve got audiences cheering at the prospect of somebody dying because they don’t have health care and booing a service member in Iraq because they’re gay,” Obama said. “That’s not reflective of who we are.”
During an appearance last week on “The View,“ Vice President Joe Biden said he had a ”visceral response” hearing the audience’s reaction.
“Look, this kid risked his life, this kid was there for a year — and I quite frankly, I thought it was reprehensible,” he said, visibly welling up.

While all of you sit there in your comfortable chairs, Americans are putting their lives on the line willing to die for their country. And you boo them. You give these American soldiers a thumbs down, just as many did when American soldiers came back from Vietnam. You flip off our soldiers.
I’m sorry, you only flip off the gay guys. Cool. Okay I get that and it gives me an idea which will make me a fortune. Bumper stickers that say “Support our nongay troops.” You‘ll send me your dollars for that expression of you opinion and I’ll be rich.

As a Nation we love our soldiers because they really do give alot to their country, but the fact is that some soldiers turn to a dark side. Whether it’s immoral behaviour or breaking the law, there are some that disgrace the uniform.

And if I were there I would have booed the fact that he was allowed to be in our uniform and ask such a ridiculous question and be one of the many that are ruining our military.
I thank him for risking his life but say GET THE HELL OUT!
He is free to live as he likes but IMO gays in the military do not make us stronger but rather weaker.

That’s a legitimate question. Why would anybody think that question was out of bounds, particularly given the respondent all but said he would?
Booed the question. Sure. Yeah, and they didn’t cheer letting poor people die, they cheered the question.

The biggest thing the gay movement has going against it is the same thing that goes against the african american movement. When your movement start trying to educate pre-schoolers, and 1st and 2nd graders on how being Gay is normal you have carried it a little to far. I don’t recall being taught in school that being gay was bad, just like I wasn’t taught that being hetrosexual was normal. This kind of education belongs in the home, not in the schools.
If you were truly tolerant, you would be tolerant of opposing views. You actually DON’T WANT this being taught in the home because then opposing views might be taught. You want to control the message where I say let each family and each person form their own opinion based on their personal interactions with others.

Homosexuals in the military harm the esprit de corps because soldiers cannot naturally form close bonds with those whose sexual attractions intrude into the unit. I would thank the soldier for his service, but now that he has made public his sexual attraction for other men he no longer will be able to fit into a proper working military unit, and since the onject of the military is to be the most effective at fighting, not at social experimentation or even at advancing individual rights, he will be given an honorable discharge. Military service is not a right. it is a privelege.

Gay solders, years of free unemployment money, free everything for the minorities, no God allowed anywhere, no space program, green jobs that cost a million a piece, government workers paid double the private sector that can not be fired, schools that are failing, I can think of dozens of other situations just from memory!

I’m a contractor for the federal government, am paid less than half the token government workers I work with. I do IT, and my boss who makes $150K and over sees half a dozen networks and phone systems, doesn’t even know what tethering a cell phone means, yet signs off on multiple million dollar phone contracts. He has a position that requires a bs, 21 hours of college math above college algebra and 10 years experience, yet was hired with a ged, and paid to get an MIS degree, not because he was good, but because he’s related to congressman Thompson.

His answer held nothing against gays serving in the military, and yet he wasn’t on his toes enough to point that out to the “booer.” He was naive enough to think that his answer would speak for itself and that any critics would ever be honest enough to point that out.
Speaking of honesty, no Mr. Pres, it was not the “audience” who booed. That is simply a lie. There was one or maybe two “booers,” well less than 1/1000th of the live audience. They represent no one but themselves. What a hypocrite is our campaigner in chief. He can‘t be responsible for the violent rhetoric in a union leader’s speech (which his staff surely approved as it was at HIS OWN political event), yet he holds everyone at the GOP debate responsible for one or two people’s booing.
I say right on! The more LITTLE JOHNNY chooses to ignore the obvious, the more his ignorance will become apparent.

Santorum is right is saying sexuality should not be an issue….his “keep it to yourself whether your homosexual or heterosexual” line rings true. The way to make that a reality is for allowing anyone to serve his or her country and holding them ALL accountable for their behavior while on duty.
He was waffling a bit and walking a tricky line there in his answer, though — as he’s well-known for his anti-gay views but wasn’t about to voice them completely following a question from a U.S. soldier.

But you can’t expect soldiers not to talk about their relationships with their wives and girlfriends, that’s part of the comraderie, the bonding experience. That is a defensive argument which concedes the crucial ground, which is that heterosexuality is normal and homosexuality isn’t, and straight soldiers are not going to be comfortable with homosexual soldiers and you can’t expect them to be because their revuslion is a NATURAL one.
If we aren’t courageous nenough to say this then we will lose the cultural argument. Even liberals who buy the liberal line don’t like the queerness of queers. They’l talk on about gay rights and blah blah blah but then will make fun of them in private. People instictively don’t like sexual perversion unless they are preverts themselves

Whether you agree with them being the way they are or not, you should RESPECT them. Either that, or you and everyone you know should head over there to take their places. I don’t care how old you are or even if you are a veteran. Round up all your friends, family, and take them and yourself to go fight the wars so they don’t have to.
Have your opinion if you want it, but people like you who disrespect our military servicemen and women make me sick. You are worse than the liberals that everyone was saying hated the troops. You know why? Because you actually do.

Posted on October 2, 2011 at 10:44amI read or heard a comment from a active military guy the other day stating real fears of serving with homosexuals..men anyway..that he feared getting transfusions from one if injured. Something that he probably didn’t realize is that if blood somehow shoots into one of your orafices from and infected person..you can get HIV. I saw a medical show once where a doctor was treating a man who refused to tell him what was wrong. He started to dismiss him when the guy went into emergency mode. When the doc opened the man’s shirt, he’d had a knife wound, so the doc did an emergency procedure that he’d only seen done. He was successful in saving his life, and as the doc was showering ..I thought.. wow to have that type of courage to get someone’s blood all over you like that is selfless. Then the doc pressured the guy as to why he didn‘t tell him he’d been stabbed. The guy related that his boyfriend had stabbed him when he told him that he had HIV.
