President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign released a new ad Thursday hailing the end of the war in Iraq.

Titled, “Ending the War in Iraq: A Promise Kept,” the nearly three-minute video features a slew of clips of Obama speaking critically about the war, going as far back as 2004.

“I’m a hawk about when it comes to defeating terrorism, I was strongly supportive of Afghanistan, I would have picked up arms myself to prevent 9/11 again. I don’t think the president has made the case on Iraq,” then-newly-elected Senator Obama says in a Nov. 2004 clip.

Other clips feature Obama on the 2008 campaign trail, announcing the war’s end in August 2010 and conclude with him speaking to returning troops at Fort Bragg this week.

“This month, President Obama is making good on his promise to bring the last American troops home from Iraq in time for the holidays. Here‘s a look at the President’s record on the war in Iraq—from his time as a state senator through the end of this nine-year conflict,” a message on Obama’s re-election website reads.

Interspersed between the clips are photos of Obama shaking hands with service members, troops saluting and one shot of headstones at Arlington National Cemetery.

“I’m proud to finally say these two words, and I know your families agree: Welcome home,” he tells troops at Fort Bragg, as the video fades into the Obama 2012 logo.

He has kept many promises. Obama ended the Iraq as promised, when promised, and in well organized, honorable, and dignified manner. The right loves to go to war, but is is always the progressives who help veterans and their families with programs when they return.

Excuse me ? The “ right always loves to go to war ” Duh. Explain that one please. WWI ? WW II ? VietNam ? Korea ? A bunch of hysterical , historical hooey . ( Product of the current American public school system ? ) No. I think you would be much more accurate to say “It’s always the progressives”…… who spend us into bankruptcy . (think you need to spend some time brushing up on your American history with Mr. Gingrich )

in 2003 but the neocons never expected the
the Sunnis and Shiites would start an insurgency.
Osama bin Laden called the war Americas gift
to me. Bush should get all the credit for everything
in Iraq. The 4500 dead Americans. The 100k of
dead Iraqs. The trillion spent. Yet when it comes

Yep, it was part of the 2007 timetable. The only thing that was then and this is now, a 20K-25K security and training force would be maintained for an estimated 7 years if I remember correctly. Gotta give them time to understand what freedom is, not just give it to them and then say, learn it on your own now. This will come back to haunt us very soon.

Yanking the troops from Iraq on a deadline so he can make a political ad?

Know how a Prince getting killed started WWI? … how small events can lead to World Wars?

Iran now has ‘open road’ to Israel once we leave. (and vice versa – Hope they strike the nuke sites!)

This is the biggest mistake yet. (and that is saying a LOT with Obama – he’s got a HUGE list to top!)

It takes some kind of egotist to release a campaign ad about the war ending as promised when if it was left up to him we never would have had the surge that made it all possible. Was it produced by the Iranian agent who got to visit the White House this week?

The promise was to END the war. Even if we had lost everything and our country was taken over by a hostile force (wait a minute…that sounds familiar…), even if we had “lost the war” he could still say the war had ended and it was a promise kept. When something you promise can happen without doing anything at all, I don’t think it really counts as a credit which can be the foundatio for a re-election campaign.

But as always BHO never takes responsibility when negative things happen…… But as always, when things turn bad, he will blame George Bush, never take responsibility for his own actions…..

I would be happy as hell to get the hell out of their. No one likes fighting a war with their hands tied behind their backs. No one likes being defeated either and everyone with a brain knows that 9 years have been nothing but a waste of lives and resources only to hand it over to Iran. There was never any intention of winning this war from the people that started it. Just another way to achieve their anterior motives which don’t include the interest of the country

The “promise” was got get the troops out sooner…first 12 months then 14 then 16 then 18.

What we got was following the Bush’s SoFA agreement with the Iraqis, then Obama badly attempting to keep them longer.
Obama thinks , like Americans of the past,, that no one is paying attention to detials and that we all cant remember past 6 months.

He is a master manipulator more so that any politician except perhaps LBJ and FDR.

Very interesting indeed. The only conservative website I could find information about this on was the Drudge Report. It wasn‘t talked about on any conservative talk shows I listen to and it wasn’t mentioned here. Oh, that’s right, Republicans voted for it, so no news here, even though it’s scary as hell that one man can declare any of us a terrorist and then scoop us up off the streets and detain us indefinitely without any civil rights at all. You’d think this would be something Rush and Hannity would be concerned about. You’d think it would warrant a mention in the debate last night. Maybe instead of offering up softball questions to Newt Gingrich, they could have asked Ron Paul what he thought of the defense authorization with this language in it. They could have lobbed him an applause line, too, just like they did with Gingrich all night.
