Obama Gets Burger After Debt Deal With Staff

If you could guess how the president would celebrate passing a debt deal, what would you say he did? If you said golf, you’re wrong (although a good guess). How about treat his staff to a burger.

President Obama took some of his closest staff out for lunch on Wednesday to a popular D.C. burger joint. And the calorie count, it seems, rivaled the national debt.

The president rounded up a handful of staff members who have been working almost nonstop for months on the debt issue and headed to Good Stuff Eatery on Capitol Hill.

“It smells pretty good,” Obama said as he arrived at the restaurant. “Michelle eats here all the time.”

According to the Washington Times, in fact, she eats there so much she has a sandwich named after her: “The Michelle Melt Free Range Turkey Burger.”

So what did the President have? It wasn‘t one of Michele’s sandwiches, but rather a burger, fries, and a shake. The Times calculated the calories in the meal (”about 1,700″), and it wouldn‘t make Michele’s healthy eating menu:

According to MyFitnessPal.com, an Obama Burger has 825 calories and a toasted marshmallow shake is 456 calories.

An order of fries at most restaurants clocks in at 400-500 calories.

But that shouldn‘t surprise those familiar with Obama’s eating habits. Apparently, he loves his burgers:

Despite Mrs. Obama’s push for healthy eating, burgers are a clear favorite of the president’s — or, more exactly, cheeseburgers. It’s been his most common order on campaign and official presidential stops.

It was his first meal on Air Force One, and since his appearance on the national stage as a presidential candidate it has been his most common order on campaign and official presidential stops.

Those who joined him at a rectangular wooden table included Jack Lew, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, and White House Legislative Affairs Director Rob Nabors. Others in the group were White House Deputy Chief of Staff Nancy Ann DeParle; Gene Sperling, the head of the National Economic Council; and Bruce Reed, chief of staff to Vice President Joe Biden.

Obama got some day-early 50th birthday wishes from restaurant patrons, and instructed them to get on with their meals.

“Finish your burgers,” he said. By the way, he also ordered a salad according to the Associated Press.

This being Washington, it turned out that there was also a congressman who was having lunch at another restaurant and stopped in to talk about the deficit battle and Monday’s vote.

Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C., called it a “difficult” one.

“I explained to him that I didn’t vote with him, but I’m glad that it passed,” Butterfield said. “He said that he understood.”

Laura Mengelkamp, who was eating lunch with friends, reported that a bunch of people wished the president happy birthday.

“He looked good for 50,” said Amber Moyerman.

Obama spent about an hour in the restaurant, then emerged to cheers from patrons at outdoor tables.

But he and the aides left behind a number of milkshakes. “Choose any,” he was quoted as saying by Andrew Parker, who sat nearby with his family. “I guarantee this table isn’t going to drink them all.”

      Oh, he’s just happy about his burger and getting to have a big ole huge party to celebrate his 50th birthday. The man doesn‘t give a rat’s ass about this country or he would have bothered to learn how to run said country.       I would really love to see the break down of yesterdays birthday adventures for our numbskull president. I live in Chicago and dopey came in yesterday. He closed part of the airport, took those 3 or more crazy helicopters to an undisclosed area, closed major parts of the rail way by the venue during rush our traffic, had a massive motorcade of his own, then utilizing tons of Chicago’s finest, got to the venue for a F-ING FUNDRAISER ($50.00 to $35,000 per ticket) gave a crap speech blaming Bush,then took the motorcade back to the undisclosed area, took the helicopters back to the airport, took air force one back to Washington were he ate a burger from michelle’s big bottom. This all went down in 4 hours. Number one why should we be paying for these idiotic fundraising trips when more than half of the voters can’t stand this incompetent, and won’t, and didn’t vote for the community organizer in the first place. If I screwed the country up as much as him in 2.5 years, I would at least have the decency to stay home with my family and celebrate my last year in office. This whole fiasco just shows us how arrogant this guy is. Why doesn’t anyone attack this ridiculous spending, or just question how much it cost us. 2012 change! no hope just change!

      ANY intellegent person would say, “no, we are not going to a burger joint to celebrate with all of the things that my wife has preached recently”, but no, Obama runs out to a burger joint where he knows that he will be filmed. This is like standing up and doing the tarzan yell after he just finished, the day after giving a speech about safe sex.

    Another photo op for a hypocrit. Eat salad and carrots while I eat a big burger. And I’ll make them think I compromised on the debt ceiling when I really got the trillions I wanted. More taxes are hidden in there somewhere, count on it.

      If you’re wondering who paid the tab, when you have a chance look into a mirrow. That’s the taxpayer that paid the “burger bill” to celebrate the raised “debt ceiling bill”. Ha.

      To answer your “How did I do?” question, i’m going to have to give you an F! The plan is to raise the debt limit, it’s not a bill intended to add other pieces of legislation! It’s not like adding a “no abortion” statute to an Immigration bill! All parties agreed that the debt limit needed to be raised, so that should have been the bill! Argue the debt reduction and write a separate piece of legislation for that! Got it? Ok!

Useful idiots like Thomasdaddy look befuddled and dazed when you remind them that Obama produced a joke of a budget earlier this year that added 3.7 trillion dollars of new spending..sorry “investing”…to an already OLYMPIAN spending spree from Obama.
