Obama Comments on Martin Shooting: ‘If I Had a Son, He Would Look Like Trayvon’

While introducing his pick for the new head of the World Bank, President Obama commented on the Trayvon Martin case. And he made it personal.
“I can only imagine what these parents are going through,” he said, “and when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids. And you know, I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this.”
He added later: “You know, if I had a son, he would look like Trayvon.”

>> mr. president, may i ask you about this current case in florida, very controversial allegations of listenering racism within our society of the so-called stand your ground law and the justice in that. can you comment on the travon martin case , sir?
>> well, i’m the head of the executive branch . and the attorney general reports to me. so i‘ve got to be careful about my statements to make sure that we’re not impairing any investigation that’s taking place right now. but obviously, this is a tragedy. i can only imagine what these parents are going through. and when i think about this boy, i think about my own kids. and you know, i think every parent in america should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this. and that everybody pulls together, federal, state and local, to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened. so i’m glad that not only is the justice department looking into it, i understand now that the governor of the state of florida has formed a task force to investigate what is taking place. to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen. and that means that we examine the laws and the context for what happened. as well as the specifics of the incident. but my main message is to the parents of trayvon martin. you know, if i had a son, he would look like trayvon. and, you know, i think they are right to expect that all of us as americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves and that we’re going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened. all right.
The Martin shooting has garnered considerable attention this week. The unarmed young man was shot and killed by self-proclaimed neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who claims he was defending himself after Martin attacked him. He was not arrested for the shooting partly because of Florida’s “stand your ground” law.
Since the shooting, however, Zimmerman has been accused of racist remarks, raising the question that the incident might have been motivated by hate.

What the hell does that mean? I wonder why he didn’t say, “If I had a son, he would BE like Trayvon”? After all, this guy doesn‘t say one word that isn’t written for him. I guess if they find out something negative about the kid, Obama could always say, “Hey, not my fault – I said LOOK like him not BE like him”.
No, Mr. Pres.. If you had a son, he’d be in private school, have his own driver, live in a heavily discounted Chicago mansion, have his favorite musicians play private concerts for him, and go on 6-10 vacations per year, paid for by the American tax payer. Ain’t dat rite?

This guy can’t open his mouth without making everything about race. Since he was elected, any political disagreement with him was deemed racist. This young man it looks like, was hunted down by a man obsessed with security and crime. If he had been any other color walking around at night near this mentally ill man, this guy would have snapped anyway. He called 911 even before he could say for sure what color the ‘suspicious” guy was. I think running only made it worse. But of course Trayvon was himself afraid. There were two human beings that night acting on fear due to the crime in the area. As a naturally tanned female, there were a couple of instances that a white woman would not go into the elevator I was in. I’m a professional and more afraid that she would mug me! But crime rates have a way of making people act more cautiously. We can pretend it doesn‘t happen but that’s not reality. We have to love one another as Christ loves.

Why make that comment at all?
Would Obama have made a statement like, “If I had a son, I’d have loved for him to be like __________” of a boy of another race? Would he have said simply, “I’m a parent so I can only imagine how awful this is” of a boy or girl of a different race? Would he even THINK of it?
Or is it just because this boy happened to have dark skin like him–that he thought to identify with the boy’s parents?
Also the answer was obviously scripted/rehearsed so he was expecting the question from the very polite reporter!
Why didn’t he also say, “The police acted stupidly.” ???

November is really important since this Pres (that word was hard to type; I’d prefer to write something else) has tried really hard to divide this country especially his rhetoric about the rich paying their fair share. Get a flat tax. But no, let’s just keep spouting the hostility toward the rich. And no I am not rich, but I do work for a husband/wife who treat me well. Too bad Obama can’t seem to embrace his true and COMPLETE “heritage.” He’d be so much more at peace with himself if he did!
Now I can see why the government offered assistance for “counseling” when we adopted a biracial little girl (who has grown into a gorgeous, self-confident, fully accepting of her WHOLE heritage young lady!). (We declined the offer.)
Obama grates on her nerves. She said rather than continuing to proudly claim being the first “black Prez” he should have been proud to perhaps be the first “biracial Prez” but I guess that’s not as “politically wow” as the former. So he went with one race over the other because it gained him more votes/popularity/novelty.
My daughter is (rightfully) proud of who she is and of ALL her “heritage.” She embraces who God created her to be. Obama must not have been raised that way. Maybe that‘s one reason he’s so messed up in the head!

While likely that the family produced a good picture of Trayvon and Zimmerman is hiding his leaving only what the media can scrape together. This isn’t a defense or promotion of one view over the other, but just a comment on the awareness of propaganda and the skewing of a story one way or the other with images. Be aware, judge the facts on their own merits.
