Obama Compares Himself to Reagan: Republicans Aren’t Accusing Him of ‘Being Socialist’

At a fundraiser in Dallas on Tuesday, President Obama again invoked the name of Ronald Reagan in order to sell his tax increases.
He told the crowd that Regan once paraded against tax loopholes and said Reagan “thought that everybody should do their fair share.” Here’s the video, via Fox Nation:
President Obama: Ronald Reagan Would Want ‘Buffett Rule’ from Colin Sumner on Vimeo.
Real Clear Politics has the transcript:
“Now, this notion that folks are inherently selfish, that’s just not true. But you’ve got to ask them, right? People don’t voluntarily pay taxes. But if you ask, most wealthy folks here in Dallas or around the country, they’ll tell you, you know what, I want to make sure that I’m doing my share for America to succeed. But somebody has got to ask.
“Now, some Republicans in Congress, they’re already dusting off the old — their old records. ‘That’s class warfare.’ Let me tell you something, 26 years ago — some of you may have seen this on television, clips have been circulating — 26 years ago, another President said that some of these tax loopholes, and I quote, ‘made it possible for millionaires to pay nothing while a bus driver was paying 10 percent of his salary, and that’s crazy. It’s time we stopped it.’ That was 26 years ago. You know the name of that President? Ronald Reagan.
“So was that class warfare? By the way, taxes are much lower now than they ever were when Ronald Reagan was President. I know a lot of folks have short memories, but I don’t remember Republicans accusing Ronald Reagan of being a socialist — (laughter) — or engaging in class warfare, because he thought that everybody should do their fair share.”

Obahitlerstalinmao wants more government, so more problems instead of solutions. NOTHING THE GOVERNMENT RUNS EVER DOES WELL. It only costs the taxpayers in the end. Sure everyone needs to do their fair share, but they don’t need their income redistributed to a bunch of lowlifes that refuse to work or do their fair share.

This is a dangerous person who should have never been elected. How could so many people have fallen for his empty hope and change without ever knowing what he was talking about. He said it over and over – redistribution of wealth. Did they not hear? He surrounds himself with radicals and has muslims in high, important places. Did they not see? Is this what the Liberal educators have done to the young people? We are in a desparate crisis and if he is voted back in office in 2012 our Republic is gone forever.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 10:25amWhat exactly is a fair share?
Is it paying 45% of your earniong to fund programs you’ll never use because your income is too high?
Is it 10% paying 70% of the tax burden?
Or is it having child after child you can’t afford never working or working very little and sucking up SS,welfare, and tax dollars out of a system youi NEVER PUT A DIME INTO?
Is it fair that the bulk of benefits goes to those who never put into the system?
Is it fair that government grants, and loans (tax dollars subsidized) are based on race and sex of the applicants as opposed to those who have worked hard but are cash strapped?
THERE‘S NOTHING FAIR ABOUT ANYTHING THEY PROPOSE I DON’T THINK OBAMA EVEN KNOWS THE MEANING OF FAIR.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 10:48amHow dare he compare himself to Ronald Reagan! He keeps using past Presidents as comparisons and I’m tired of it. In his early days he kept comparing himself to Lincoln and that burned me up.
Lincoln is related to me through his mother, Mary Lincoln, and believe me, Obama ain’t no Lincoln.
This man is killing America as we’ve known it. He’s lying again (in Dallas) about Republicans not passing his JOBS Bill, when in fact it’s his own Dem. Harry Reid who WON‘T let the bill come before the Senate because he knows it WON’T pass. It’s that bad a Bill. Obama keeps lying hoping no one will notice, well, I noticed. We must VOTE Obama OUT. Report Post »Are you completely stupid? The phrase “fair share” is so subjective that to compare what Reagan meant by it to what Obama meant by it is folly. Obama is just looking for an easy way to get himself out of a jam by painting all rich people with the same brush by saying that they don’t pay their fair share. Instead of going after the rich who got away without paying any taxes he decided to punish them all by jacking up their percentage of taxation even higher. You people have no idea who pays all the taxes in this country do you? You also have no idea who owns all the companies that do all the hiring do you? Typical lefties, you have no idea how the real world works so why dont you grab all of you liberal buddies and go form your own country somewhere. Posted on October 5, 2011 at 1:21pmNo, this is not proof that Reagan isn’t conservative enough to be a Tea Party candidate…this is proof that a wicked person can twist anything to justify what they want to do. Reagan had to compromise (that means give a little to get a little, not do it my way and the other person gives up everything) because he had a Democrat congress. Obama knows full well that 47% of the population doesn’t even pay any taxes. How do I know this? The health care bill calls for people making 150% of poverty to be qualified for Medicaid, which would broaden the base even more. Those are the people most likely to vote for a Democrat because Democrats want to give you your daily fish from the government, while Republicans want to teach you how to fish so you can get off your porch and get it yourself through fishing for it.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 9:46amSo… Obama is advocating lowering the tax rates and indexing them to inflation, which is what Reagan did? When he referred to the tax disparity? Prior, the rates were astronomical but there were just as many writeoffs and deductions. The deductions were eliminated in large measure, and the rates were lowered. This resulted in the Gipper quote he’s tossing around… Reagan certainly wasn’t comparing capital gains tax on the one hand to income tax on the other.
But on a side note: our tax brackets have since be decoupled from inflation, reversing a Reagan policy. What happens with all of this “TAX THE RICH!” nonsense if/when hyperinflation kicks in from all of the money printing? What does your tax bill look like if, heaven forbid, it takes a wheelbarrow full of $100,000 just to buy a loaf of bread? Hmmmm??

But, the main difference is in ideology. Obama was schooled to believe that certain types of people cannot compete, so his aim is to level the playing field. He doesn’t believe Americans are born equal. Reagan knew everybody was essentially the same and understood those that work hard enjoy the spoils.
