Obama Deploys 100 U.S. Combat Troops to Aid Africa Anti-Insurgency

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — President Barack Obama said Friday he’s dispatching roughly 100 U.S. troops to central Africa to help battle the Lord’s Resistance Army, which the administration accuses of a campaign of murder, rape and kidnapping children that spans two decades.
In a letter to Congress, Obama said the troops will act as advisers in efforts to hunt down rebel leader Joseph Kony but will not engage in combat except in self-defense.
Pentagon officials said the bulk of the U.S. contingent will be special operations troops, who will provide security and combat training to African units.
The White House said the first troops arrived in Uganda on Wednesday. Ultimately, they’ll also deploy in South Sudan, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Long considered one of Africa’s most brutal rebel groups, the Lord’s Resistance Army began its attacks in Uganda more than 20 years ago but has been pushing westward.
The administration and human rights groups say its atrocities have left thousands dead and have put as many as 300,000 Africans to flight. They have charged the group with seizing children to bolster its ranks of soldiers and sometimes forcing them to become sex slaves.
Kony is wanted by the International Criminal Court under a 2005 warrant for crimes against humanity in his native Uganda.
Obama’s announcement came in low-key fashion — a letter to House Speaker John Boehner in which he said the deployment “furthers U.S. national security interests and foreign policy and will be a significant contribution toward counter-LRA efforts in central Africa.”
The deployment drew support from Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., who has visited the region.
“I have witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by the LRA, and this will help end Kony’s heinous acts that have created a human rights crisis in Africa,” he said in a statement. “I have been fervently involved in trying to prevent further abductions and murders of Ugandan children, and today’s action offers hope that the end of the LRA is in sight.”
But Obama’s letter stressed the limited nature of the deployment.
“Our forces will provide information, advice and assistance to select partner nation forces,” it said. “Although the U.S. forces are combat-equipped, they will … not themselves engage LRA forces unless necessary for self-defense.”
Most of the troops will deploy to regional capitals to work with government officials and military commanders on countering the rebels and protecting civilians, Pentagon officials said.
State Department officials portrayed the deployment as part of a larger strategy to combat the group that dates to the Bush administration but also includes legislation passed by Congress this year.
Victoria Nuland, a department spokeswoman, said the U.S. troops will aid in “pursuing the LRA and seeking to bring top commanders to justice.” The broader effort includes encouraging rebel fighters to defect, disarm and return to their homes, she said.
The administration briefed human rights activists ahead of the announcement, and their officials were encouraged.
“These advisers can make a positive difference on the ground by keeping civilians safe and improving military operations to apprehend the LRA’s top commanders,” said Paul Ronan, director of the group Advocacy at Resolve.
Col. Felix Kulayigye, Uganda’s military spokesman, said of the troops: “We are aware that they are coming. We are happy about it. We look forward to working with them and eliminating Kony and his fighters.”

That we’re simply going to tell these terrorists to“ please put down your arms and stop torturing and murdering people and please go home” tells me that these are not muslims we wish to demonize and kill for being terrorists. Funny how these murders and atrocicites have been going on for decades and barely a peep from the media. tells me they’re not muslims doing the terrorism. now that south sudan is separated from muslim north sudan it would be embarassing to see south sudanese murdered not by “evil muslims” but by non muslims who as part of north sudan they were protected from. That’s my take on it.

They are holding AKs, and the selector switch is on “safe”. Generally developing nation soldiers have very poor weapons handling skills, and they run around with their AK on full auto. Negligent discharge was very common with some of the rag tag Iraqi forces. They would even shoot each other. Also noticed that none have finger on the trigger, something else that used to drive me crazy as an advisor in Iraq. Dudes running around with the AK on auto, finger on the trigger, and poor muzzle awarenes.
Good job who ever trained this bunch. Wish I could go do some hunting with them. Would sure beat power point.

Posted on October 14, 2011 at 7:48pmJoseph Kony
Born: 18-Sep-1964
Birthplace: Atyak, Uganda
Gender: Male
Religion: Cult
Race or Ethnicity: Black
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Criminal, Military, Religion
Nationality: Uganda
Executive summary: Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda
Joseph Kony considers himself quite a good Christian, and he wants Uganda to be a Christian nation. So in 1987 he formed a resistance group called the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), and the LRA has been at civil war against the Ugandan government ever since. If the LRA wins, Kony has promised that Uganda will become a theocracy, with laws based on the Biblical Ten Commandments.
Kony’s LRA has kidnapped an estimated 20,000 children for use as fighters or sex slaves. As part of their initiation, these children are often required to kill their own parents, so they’ll have no homes to return to. (It‘s not clear which of the Ten Commandments Kony’s strategy is based on.) Once kidnapped, children are used as pack mules, carrying LRA supplies until they are too weak to walk, at which time they’re killed or simply left to die. Kidnapped boys also serve as targets and decoys, sent to the front lines — unarmed — whenever the Ugandan Army engages the LRA. Kidnapped girls that Kony or his senior commanders find attractive become their “wives” (Kony is reputed to have 60). Troublesome captives have their noses, lips, and/or ears cut off, and are then made to eat their own flesh.

Not surprising these atrocities have been going on for yr.What’s a little torture and mass murder of men women and children if not done by muslims? Now that south sudan [a satellite of america] is in danger of being victimized by lo- and -behold -a NON Muslim terrorist group, america has to act to save itself and its satelitte from the embarassing fact that ithe south sudanese people were better off under the protection of those muslim fighters.from the north. The fact that the word terrorist never crosses the lips of those reporting this narrative of mass murderer and torturers says it all.

We part ways on the usual Islamist apologia you post here regularly. Those Islamists in northern Sudan are also terrorists. In fact, Kony’s actions place him closer to the Taliban than to a Christian cult. Christian cults do evil, but they are not terrorists. This man is engaged in typical guerrilla-terrorist warfare.

Nazis coming door to door confiscating weapons like they’re doing in Cleveland, in violation of Posse Comitatus.
They call it “V-GRIP” because I, V-Man, have been protesting the Nazi Police State outside their taxpayer-funded castles, with signs telling Clevelanders to Open Carry their firearms because it is legal to do so in Ohio, and informing citizens that the Nazi Police and the Nazi TSA are coming to confiscate your guns. This is their counter.

Obama nominated many blacks as departnent heads in spite of the fact theiy’re unqualified, like the NASA head who said his job was to try to placate Muslims, or the Harvard ghetto geek who displayed vicious unlawful conduct to a white police officer and was arrested. Obama, of course, would not have spoken up in defense of the blatant law breaker if he had not been black and the arresting cop white.
This is the same community organizer who raled about the US sending troops overseas to fight foreign wars.
Of course, it‘s now obvious that Obama doesn’t mind expending US blood and treasure so long as the beneficiaries are black. They’re his brothers, just like the the Black Panthers and the Harvard geek.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt issued Executive Order No. 9066 in December 1941. His order forced 100,000 Japanese residents in the United States to be rounded up and placed in concentration camps. The property of the Japanese was confiscated. Both Lincoln‘s and Roosevelt’s actions were taken during wartime, when the very life of the United States was threatened. Wilson’s action was taken on the eve of the United States entering World War One. Whether history judges these actions as just, proper or legal, the decision must be left to time. The dire life struggle associated with these actions provided plausible argumentation favoring their implementation during a time when hysteria ruled an age.
THE NEW DANGERS
A Presidential Executive Order, whether Constitutional or not, becomes law simply by its publication in the Federal Registry. Congress is by-passed. Here are just a few Executive Orders that would suspend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These Executive Orders have been on record for nearly 30 years and could be enacted by the stroke of a Presidential pen:
EXECUTIVE ORDER 10990 allows the government to take over all modes of transportation and control of highways and seaports.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 10995 allows the government to seize and control the communication media.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 10997 allows the government to take over all electrical power, gas, petroleum, fuels and minerals.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 11002 designates the Postmaster General to operate a national registration of all persons.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11003 allows the government to take over all airports and aircraft, including commercial aircraft.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11004 allows the Housing and Finance Authority to relocate communities, build new housing with public funds, designate areas to be abandoned, and establish new locations for populations.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11005 allows the government to take over railroads, inland waterways and public storage facilities.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11051 specifies the responsibility of the Office of Emergency Planning and gives authorization to put all Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international tensions and economic or financial crisis.

After President Barack Obama announced earlier this week that he would be sending American troops into Uganda, WND uncovered billionaire activist George Soros‘ ties both to the political pressure behind the decision and to the African nation’s fledgling oil industry.
Soros sits on the executive board of an influential “crisis management organization” that recently recommended the U.S. deploy a special advisory military team to Uganda to help with operations and run an intelligence platform, a recommendation Obama’s action seems to fulfill.
The president emeritus of that organization, the International Crisis Group, is also the principal author of “Responsibility to Protect,” the military doctrine used by Obama to justify the U.S.-led NATO campaign in Libya.
Soros’ own Open Society Institute is one of only three nongovernmental funders of the Global Centre for Responsibility to Protect, a doctrine that has been cited many times by activists urging intervention in Uganda.
Authors and advisers of the Responsibility to Protect doctrine, including a center founded and led by Samantha Power, the National Security Council special adviser to Obama on human rights, also helped to found the International Criminal Court

He clearly didn’t even bother to read the ABC story thuroughly because he thought we were aiding the Muslim Sudan against the LRA. It is the Christian SOUTH Sudan as well as Uganda and Congo that the LRA is terrorizing. I have known of the evils of the LRA for years, but I have connections with Uganda. Still, it wouldn’t have taken much to familiarize himself with the basics before going off about it.
I support helping Uganda and the other nations of the region rid themselves of this scourge, but why are our troops needed? Send them guns and air surveilance, no more. The last thing we need is another combat theater of operation.

Posted on October 14, 2011 at 6:28pmyet another brilliant move by Mr. “I’ll end the wars in Iraq and Afganistan , close Gitmo , and bring all of our troops home !” What ever happened to that diplomacy thing you were bragging about being so awesome at during the last election ? Not only has he failed on his campaign promises above now he has gotten the US involved in Libya and now Uganda conflicts

Posted on October 14, 2011 at 6:36pm100 troops? Hilarious. There are closer to 2500 troops, not including in the rear with the gear personnel. They have been there for quite some time.
We (America) is maintaining some 25 Predator drones in South Africa and have been actively training “freedom” fighters how to control them……………FOR MONTHS!

For a guy like me Obama has been a literal gold mine for my financial status. We’ve invested so much time and money on drone research and development, armaments, refinement, and deployment that I’m guaranteed a lot of free travel, free meals, all the toys I want to play with.
My greatest sadness comes from the fact that I can‘t target one on the Whitehouse when I know he’s there. Then it would actually benefit the American people.

How sad, man. You are helping the commie traitor build his USSR-type empire. Hussein feels closer to Africa than to us for obvious reasons, and he plans to carry out his dad’s dream of turning the African continent Red (making unholy alliances with Muslims too). The Soviets failed at it, but Hussein thinks he can pull it off with his political influence, and American military aid and technology.
Why are you doing this, dude? I am a capitalist too, but this is about our survival. Use your hi-tech expertise to help us boot him out. Please.

Posted on October 14, 2011 at 6:44pmEXACTLY – In May 1961 JFK sent 500 Special Forces troops as military ADVISERS to South Vietnam and that turned out just fine . . .
It was just by 1973 when I went there that it sucked, the whole Ia Drang Valley and that Tet thing in 1968 was no big deal(sarcasm), I‘m sure none of that was JFK’s fault, or was it? 58,212 KIA but with his experience I’m sure BHO has looked at the big picture. What could go wrong?

So how many wars is that now? 6! Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Syria and now Uganda. This operation Emperor Obama says will be only a short stay for our troops who will be training Ugandan forces. Huh, funny thing is he said the same thing about Libya and that it would only be a few days not weeks,( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-intlJA3nK4 ) we are on months now.
Where are all the those on the left that were constantly attacking the Bush administration over all the wars it was committing the US to? Where are all the liberal bleeding hearts that protested against Iraq & Afghanistan? Wheres Cindy Sheehan? … and they call republicans warmongers! http://SavingtheRepublic.com TAPGW

Posted on October 14, 2011 at 6:35pmWhile I have a hard time trusting anything Obama says if he sticks to his plan I actually agree with this. I believe in training people who want to defend their country.
You criticize the liberals for not standing up against this like they did bush. Where did you stand on the issue when war was declared on terror? What is different here?
If you want people to listen to the things that are really harming this country, you better stick up for right no matter who presents it.
