Whoops: Obama Describes Individual Mandate as a ‘Tax’

President Barack Obama described his health care law as a "tax" during a campaign event in Virginia on Friday. (AP)
Despite earlier claims by the White House that the individual mandate is a “penalty” not a tax, President Barack Obama on Friday used the word “tax” to describe his health care overhaul during a campaign rally in Virginia.
“By the way, if you’ve got health insurance, you’re not getting hit by a tax,” Obama said during a campaign event in Roanoke, Va. “The only thing that’s happening to you is that you now have more security because insurance companies can’t drop you when you get sick.”
It doesn’t appear the president misspoke or made a mistake, as he made no attempt to walk back his statement or correct himself.
White House press secretary Jay Carney said last month the mandate is “a penalty because you have a choice” to buy insurance or pay the the “penalty” fee.
Mitt Romney’s campaign initially called the individual mandate a penalty, however Romney later said it was a “tax” because the Supreme Court’s ruling was final.

The end result is going to be Everyones insurance rate are going to skyrocket. Think, if insurance companies are REQUIRED to cover more people, and ones they prevoiusly would have charged a higher rate, then everyones rates are going up because of ORDERED coverage. Result–everyone pays more. For instance, I want a new car but either don‘t or can’t pay for it, you should be more than willing to help pay for it, since the car lot HAS to give it to me. Everyone should share that cost, right? Fair for everyone, right?

If Obama insists its a mandante, then as the SCOTUS found, it is unconstitutional. It will probably be started by the liberals and ended by a military coup. We won’t take another 4 years of being “communized”. America will come alive if this POS is re=elected. Next thing you know, shortage of doctors but we with a health insurance card to show health insurance….there will be no guarantee of services. Where are Americans & Canadians going to go for care? Disturbing interview with someone saying the health care system will have patients treated like animals..meaning vet/death panel of #14? or whatever that number was proposed….it will be called “the-humane-thing-to-do”.

Posted on July 14, 2012 at 8:06pmGood news, Canada’s system of healthcare is getting better. An independent group calculated that the average wait for elective treatment there is only 19 months now! This is much better than years ago when I was there and had to take my child to a hospital for an emergency. The place I went to quietly advised me to take my son to another facility when they learned that I had insurance! @ standards of care. With sp much of the $$$ being taken from Medicare (older people) and added to Medicaid ( poor people) it is apparent that the older Americans will be written off soon to care for anyone else. Obama‘s buddies wrote about this very thing back in the 70’s. Eliminating the “nonproductive” parts of society. Rham Emanuel’s brother Ezekial Manuel, and Bernadette Dorn wrote books on this. These likes are now in control. If you are >50, you better pray that Obama does not get re-elected and they get rid of Obamacare quick. Our days are numbered.
