Obama Sides With Palestinians — Endorses 1967 Border Demands

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — President Barack Obama is endorsing the Palestinians’ demand for their future state to be based on the borders that existed before the 1967 Middle East war, in a move that will likely infuriate Israel. Israel says the borders of a Palestinian state have to be determined through negotiations.
In a speech outlining U.S. policy in the Middle East and North Africa, Obama on Thursday sided with the Palestinians’ opening position a day ahead of a visit to Washington by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu is vehemently opposed to referring to the 1967 borders.
“So while the core issues of the conflict must be negotiated, the basis of those negotiations is clear: a viable Palestine, and a secure Israel,” Obama’s prepared remarks said. “The United States believes that negotiations should result in two states, with permanent Palestinian borders with Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, and permanent Israeli borders with Palestine. The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states. The Palestinian people must have the right to govern themselves, and reach their potential, in a sovereign and contiguous state. ”
Until Thursday, the U.S. position had been that the Palestinian goal of a state based on the 1967 borders, with agreed land swaps, should be reconciled with Israel’s desire for a secure Jewish state through negotiations.

The turmoil is based on religion not boundries. In that case, you might be asking for an Israeli civil war. Or should they be abandoned to become effectively stateless, or second-class citizens of Palestine? In that case, look for them to be subject to persecution, harassment and terror. Facts on the ground demand something a little more sophisticated than a simple return to 1967. Still, it was good of Obama to speak of “Palestine” at last, rather than just “Palestinians” as an embarrassing lot who should somehow just go away.

They laughed at the crazy Jew who bought swamp land and turned it into productive land. Something the Palestinians didn’t bother to do and so now were jealous and wanted it back. When you are attacked and win you get to keep the “spoils of war” and in this case it’s more land. The middle East LOST so get over this “it’s mine” – It’s not yours you sold it and then lost it. You‘ve pointed out something most people don’t seem to realize: the earliest Zionist pioneers in Palestine were not Uzi-wielding invader-conquerors, but peaceful settlers who for the most part bought land in the coastal plain and Galilee–regions that actually had not been purely Jewish in antiquity.
The legality of their purchases might be questioned, because the Turks before 1917 prohibited Jewish immigration, and the land was often bought from absentee landlords in Beirut, Jeffa or Damascus, not from the Palestinian peasants who were thereby displaced.
You rightly point out that the Jews made the land far more productive than the Turks or Arabs ever had, and, ironically, this drew in Arabs from surrounding countries attracted by employment opportunities, so that many of today’s Palestinians are descended from people who immigrated into Palestine within the last century, just as the Jews did! This confusing demographic history may be the best argument for a 1-state solution, provided that the state is neither explicitly Arab nor Jewish.

Answer me one question.
When has there EVER been a nation named Palestine?
Prior to Israel’s re-emergence, Jews were called Palestinians. It was in the ‘60’s when that wonderful piece of human waste, Yassar Arafat, started calling these displaced Jordanians “Palestinians”.
Simply stated, no nation has the right or the moral high ground to demand any return to the pre-’67 borders.
Israel was attacked, then they repelled the invaders and prevailed in the war. They have ABSOLUTE right to the lands that they currently have. As others have pointed out, shall we return the lands we won in war?
Anyone demanding the pre-’67 borders has a fallacious, unwinable argument.

Report Post »No, there has never been a STATE called Palestine, but a state is not the same as a nation. If the Palestinians are Arabs, but not Jordanians, Syrians, Lebanese or Egyptians, then what are they?
So far, a stateless nation–rather like the Jews before 1948. True, the Israelis conquered a big chunk of territory in1967, but even if this somehow gives them the right to keep all of it indefinitely, the demographic trends are against them. I suppose you think they should simply settle all of the West Bank and expel the Palestinians?

Maybe, you don’t own a Bible or have never been taught true History. All the land which is now Israel along with parts of Syria, Jordan, Iraq and the area between Israel and Egypt was the Jewish land known as Judea. The Romans decimated the land in 70 AD and renamed it Palestine, the Roman name for Philistia, as an insult to the Jewish inhabitants. Since then, for over 2000 years, the land has been usurped by Arabs and split up into the existing countries of today.
All the land, not only the land in Israel, was given to the Jews by GOD. Some day, after Jesus returns and sets up his kingdom on Earth, the Jewish race will be allowed to return to the land which is rightfully theirs in the first place. The so called “Palestinians” are the invaders.

In just a few seconds, Obama not only jeopardized US/Israeli relations but has destroyed them completely and in so doing dhas deprived the USA from it’s only democratic friend in the Mideast.
Maybe the USA should pull back to it’s existing borders of 1848 and give up any and all claim to the territory Mexico ceded to the USA after the American-Mexican War. It’s heavily inhabited by illegal immigrants from Mexico and they could create THEIR own state within the ceded territory.While we are at it , why don’t we give the territory the USA acquired from France through the Louisiana Purchase back to the French. Better yet, lets give all of the USA territory that was STOLEN from the Native Americans from 1500‘s to 1800’s back to that noble race. Shouldn’t they have the right to build THEIR own state ?

None of the Arab uprising will help stabilize the region. It will bring chaos which our children will still be dealing with 40 years from now and our grandchildren will be dealing with 75 years from now if there is a world left by then to care.

In effect, this commits him to something like what the Palestinians under Arafat rejected in 2000.
He has declared Israel’s right to exist.
He has not–contrary to what I for one expected–endorsed the Palestinians’ plan to proclaim their state this September, though he has used the term “Palestine,” going further than previous presidents.
This is encouraging, and not at all likely to bring on the Rapture any time soon.

What is the “13 mile territory?” I’m guessing you refer to the fact that pre-1967 Israel had a 13-mile-wide “waist’ between the Jordanian border and the Mediterranean. The Israelis will not accept that, and I doubt the Palestinians will insist on it. Did you miss the part of Obama’s speech about “swaps?” There is little here that previous US administrations haven’t tried to broker in earlier attempts at a peace deal, except that Obama acknowledges “Palestine’s” right to exist as a state, as well as Israel’s.
Of course attacks on Israel will continue, with or without a peace agreement. Obama obviously hopes to contain and marginalize the groups that mount such attacks, which cannot be accomplished with a hard-line defense of anything any Israeli government may decide to do, ever.
FYI many Palestinians are Christian, not Muslim.

The length of time those borders existed do not change the fact they are borders that the world community did not agree on. Obama’s position is a rational one not based on ideology, religious slant or emotion. One of course could question why this is any of the US’s business at all.

First Congress, Ses II, Chp 3, Sec I, 104, 1790: “the children of citizens.” Bingham, House floor, 1866: “of parents not owing allegiance.” Supreme Court, Minor v. Happersett, 1874: “of parents who were its citizens.” Senate Res 511, 2008: “born to American citizens.”
Otherwise a foreigner and a naturalized citizen’s child, if born on U.S. soil but raised abroad until age 21, at 35 is eligible for POTUS. Equally untenable, is Obama setting a precedent of dual citizens being eligible.

I’m no supporter of Arabs or Muslims but I do believe that the Jew poses by far the biggest threat to the US Constitution. Actually I believe that they have already destroyed it.

I used to fight against people for saying that he wasn‘t their President just because they didn’t vote for him. That is not a reason for abandoning the person elected. However, when he decides that our name is involved in going directly against the Bible, then I have to go to my Biblical principals, which requires me to turn my back on my country, when it turns its back on God. We are no longer in the blessing side, I just pray that we don’t receive the curses before we can fix the problem.

If it doesn’t involve a breach of our borders or a trespass against our Constitution then as far as I’m concerned America should stay clear. Of course everyone will throw out Pearl Harbor but you’d better be prepared to justify what precipitated Pearl Harbor which most are not… In other words the Japs would not have attacked us if they had not been provoked.
Glenn Beck told his audience why America got involved in WW1 last night.. I’ve actually never heard anyone state that publicly and I’m sure GBs handlers accidentally let that little fact slip.. The Germans referred to it as the “stab in the back..” Glenn was so animated last night that he just spit it all out despite the fact that Jews and other historians have been denying it for decades. The Balfour Declaration presaged the “flip flop” of perhaps the millennium and was the ultimate cause of why the Jews suffered so bad at the hands of the Germans during the 2nd War.
