Obama: Gadhafi, Iraq Show the U.S. has Renewed its Leadership in the World

The death of Moammar Gadhafi and the announcement of the complete drawdown of troops in Iraq mean the U.S. has renewed its leadership in the world, President Barack Obama said, and it’s now time to focus on the economy by passing the $447 billion jobs bill.

“This week, we had two powerful reminders of how we’ve renewed American leadership in the world,” Obama said during his weekly radio address. “I was proud to announce that — as promised — the rest of our troops in Iraq will come home by the end of this year.  And in Libya, the death of Moammar Gadhafi showed that our role in protecting the Libyan people, and helping them break free from a tyrant, was the right thing to do.”

These successes are part of “a larger story,” Obama said, that “after a decade of war, we’re turning the page and moving forward, with strength and confidence.”

Now, the president said, “we’re focusing on our greatest challenge as a nation — rebuilding our economy and renewing our strength at home.”

“We have to tackle this challenge with the same urgency and unity that our troops brought to their fight,” he said. “That’s why I’m calling on Congress to pass the American Jobs Act, so we can rebuild our country.”

“They’ve met their responsibilities to America,” he said of the troops. “Now it’s time to meet ours. It’s time to come together and show the world why the United States of America remains the greatest source for freedom and opportunity that the world has ever known.”

      The fact is we are looked around the world now as weak. Every Muslim expert will tell you that those that perpetrated 9/11 only understand brute force. It’s been that way for a very long time. The only sliver of agreement I have with your comments is that we definitely have to reduce our military presence around the world; however, Iraq is not the place to start. The stability there is tenuous at best. Not only that, Iran is waiting in the wings to exploit that gap. Watch and see…I pray I’m wrong.

      Interesting also is that Obama is found not listening to his experts. Those he put in charge of researching and making the hard decisions about these difficult problems. He hires them, listens to them, and then goes the other way. We all want the troops home but the experts were saying keep a certain amount there to keep training. (P.S. This withdrawl date was not Obama’s it was negotiated in the Bush Administration. But there was always an understanding that there would be a group of our troops that would stay and help out… this idiot has done away with them.

The only thing your Little Boy did was run around Congress to do what he knew he wouldn’t get the authorization to do, tour the country in Canadian-made busses (OOPS! sorry, making STOPS in said busses while he travels by AF1 in between destinations) touting his new spendulus/tax bill (and getting little to no support from the “ordinary folks”), and cry about the NBA lockout. Yeah, that’s being the “only adult in the room,” alright…..

      You lie about America’s leadership in the world, Barack, but we can agree on that one statement. There is indeed a larger story than the one you’re telling. Iraq was never your war. You hated that war. You didn’t vote for the surge. In fact, this is the first time I hear you acknowledge that it was a success, without being grilled about it. So you’ve got Bush to blame for the success in Iraq. However, you can and will be blamed if Iran invades Iraq following your troop withdrawal.

      As for Libya, that success evades you as well. It was France and England who led the fight, who demanded that the UN authorize NATO strikes. By contrast, you said and did nothing — and were harshly criticized for it. Weren’t you practically dragged into that war, Barack? When you finally did make a statement, you were so ambivalent it was hard to tell whose side you were on. But take heart because this story will end badly too, and then you can come clean about your lackluster role in it.

      Iraq has told us to leave…not that we intended to..there was no winning in Iraq for the US
      Libya..oh yeah..that has regained respect for the US..NOT…
      pass the jobs act because the troops are coming home after being told to leave
      Iraq, and any soldiers left behind would be subject to Iraqi law, and Libya..why talk about it?…it was not our victory.

      On Iraq, I think this is two fold,

      1.) I’m so glad we are getting our men and women out of there, that’s the knee jerk emotional side, But……

      2.) The reality is that when we leave,,, Iran, Al Qeada, the Muslim brotherhood, are going to creep back in and fill the void. Dumb A** obama did this a year to early for his own good. In the next year Iraq is going to blow up into a killing zone again. And I don‘t care how the leftist media tries to spin it it won’t look good for our want-to-be-dictator obama.

      And….. obama is spitting on the grave of every service man and woman who died over there trying to stabilize Iraq so the majority of the population can live in peace without having to worry about being blown up when they go do the market.
      I would imagine that the general population of Iraq is going to be thrust back into fear.

      Obama did nothing on his own, using HIS diplomacy. Bush had that agreement with Iraq in 2008 before the elections. Except HIS agreement was that we we‘d’ ;leave 30K troops in the area to keep training Iraqi forces and make sure Iran stayed out. What Obama got was NO presemce. NO bases that WE built. I have a feeling he also agreed to lesve all pour equipment there too, because it will take longer than 2 months to get it all out. In other words, Obama abandoned Iraq to Iran with help from us. That is NOT diplomacy.that is being chicken ****. The Iraqis demanded that troops left be subject to Iraqi ;law if they did anything wrong to the civilians. Obama said np to that,., which was strange, seeing as he has not a work to sasy when troops in other nations are subject to local lawss. But, he kept another campaign promise. Too bad it will cost the lives of innocent civilians, and ,make the 4400 men we lost nothing but a footnote in history;

    Has anyone noticed that all he ever talks about is putting police, firefighters, and teachers back to work!!! Is this because that they are in UNIONS? Seems to me that Obama is the racists because he is targeting these few occupations. How about getting rid of the UNIONS and make all states RIGHT TO WORK states. Then let them get their jobs just like everyone else. THEY EARN THEM!!! He now knows he has no chance of re-election so he’s pulling our troops out of IRAQ. While I am glad that our troops are coming home. It will be like Viet Nam all over again. Just as soon as we pull out IRAN will move in and take over. TURKEY is looking at them too.
    But OBLAMA blames everyone else for his failures. The DUMBASCRATES rejected his JOBS BILL so how can he get on TV and tell everyone that the REPUBLICANS voted it down.       Privatizing police and especially firefighters is an incredibly bad idea.

      People who get paid for each fire they put out, meaning more money for more fires…

      You see where this is going and what might be a pretty damn bad idea about it?

    I couldn’t bring myself to watch the video – didn’t want to have to hear him speak.

    If Obozo thinks invading ME countries and killing psycho leaders – who have at least kept the animals from brutalizing each other and the Christians that live there – so that he, Hussein Obummer, can have his friends, the Muslim Bro’hood, take over is a sign of ‘renewed’ leadership, I say we fit the guy for a straightjacket and stop wasting time.

    Why isn’t Congress doing anything stop this maniac? It’s time they pulled the funding this guy has access to.

      If anything, Obama is a better Bush than either Bush. Look at what the man did to health care and wants to do to social security. A republican president would’ve had his ass kicked all the way to the moon with policies like that.
