Obama Gives Speech in Front of Couple’s Home — But the Wife Still Isn‘t Sure She’ll Vote for Him

President Barack Obama paid a visit a Reno, Nev. neighborhood Friday to tout his efforts to mitigate the housing crisis. One potential embarrassment? The woman whose home he visited isn‘t sure she’ll be voting for him come November.
Many of the homeowners in the northern Nevada neighborhood owe more than their houses are worth, the Las Vegas Sun reported. Speaking to 100 residents in front of Paul and Val Keller’s garage — a far cry from the 14,000 supporters who helped kick off his re-election campaign last week — Obama called on Republicans in Congress to take action.
Republicans, he said, are only interested in tax cuts for the wealthy while “letting the housing market hit bottom.”
The Kellers owe $168,000 on their three-bedroom home, only currently valued at $100,000. Obama lauded an administration program he said reduced their monthly payment.

But even after Obama’s visit — and a 10-minute discussion with him at their kitchen table — Val Keller is still undecided about which candidate will receive her vote, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Paul Keller said he’s already made up his mind: He voted for Obama in 2008 and will do so again in November.
Val Keller couldn’t say the same.
“I don’t know yet,” she said when asked if she would vote for the president.
Is she still undecided then? “Yes.”

As Obama spoke in front of the Kellers’ open garage — with their Jeep prominently on display — spectators were kept at bay across the street from the driveway. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported he received “a warm reception” from neighbors. Still, not everyone left their homes to see the president:
[D]own the street, Richard Vierich preferred to plant flowers in his garden, rather than walking up to eye the president. He said that he dislikes all politicians because they somehow suddenly become rich serving in Washington.
One home in the Kellers’ immediate neighborhood had a re-elect Obama sign in the front yard, and a van bearing an “Obama Sucks” banner drove slowly up and down streets – except for the closed block where the president visited.
