Obama: Health Insurers Will Foot the Bill for the Pill

Most health plans will be required to fully cover the cost of birth control without charging deductibles or co-payments beginning Aug. 1, the Obama administration said Friday.
The announcement caps months of debate over birth control coverage since Obama’s health care overhaul was signed into law. Religious institutions have loudly objected to requirements that would force them to cover prescription contraceptives, saying it conflicted with their beliefs.
Friday’s announcement by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius does not affect churches, synagogues and other houses of worship, but religious-affiliated hospitals and universities will have only a one-year delay before they must be brought into compliance, according to the Associated Press. Such institutions traditionally have not provided birth control coverage to their employees.
“This decision was made after very careful consideration, including the important concerns some have raised about religious liberty,” Sebelius said in a statement. “I believe this proposal strikes the appropriate balance between respecting religious freedom and increasing access to important preventive services.”
Birth control is considered a preventative care service under the health care law. The vast majority of health care plans do cover birth control, though the law eliminates deductibles or co-payments for patients.
Abortion rights groups quickly lauded the decision, according to The Hill.
“Birth control is not just basic health care for women, it is an economic concern,” Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement. “This common sense decision means that millions of women, who would otherwise pay $15 to $50 a month, will have access to affordable birth control, helping them save hundreds of dollars each year.”
Meanwhile, congressional Republicans came out forcefully against it, accusing the administration of essentially ruling against religion and of trying to “appease its liberal base” in an election year.
“This ruling forces religious organizations to violate the fundamental tenets of their faith, or stop offering health insurance coverage to their employees,” the U.S. Senate Republican Policy Committee said in a statement. “Time will tell whether those institutions choose the former or the latter course – but neither option should be necessary, if the Administration had not taken such an unbending approach to appease its liberal base.”

When a person goes to the store they pay taxes on products, it’s really not missed and Canadians have really good care waiting times are the same as the USA. Which would you rather have, someone having to sell their home to get treatment or pay a little higher in taxes and have it for free. Don’t be afraid of it it works!! That is the only thing I agree with Obama. There are too many people who need good care and can’t afford it look after your people folks.

My sister is a physical therapists, at at least 1/3 of her patients are Canadians that are down for joint replacement, ever heard of an American going to Canada for anything other than sudofed to make Meth with?
I was on a transatlantic cruise in October, there were hundreds of people from Spain, France, England on the ship that were coming to the US for joint replacements they couldn’t get in their home countries. They all planned to get them, stay 6 months, then take the boat home. There will be no Americans going back for operations they can’t get here.

Actually, beside higher taxes, all Canucks pay an insurance. It’s a relatively small fee, but it is not free (just for welfare recipients, and some provinces made the welfare accessibility rather difficult during the past decade, the welfare herd has been thankfully thinned. In 2008 Canadians had to wait an average of 17.3 weeks from referral to a specialist to treatment. The median wait was 4.9 weeks for a CT scan, 9.7 weeks for an MRI, and 4.4 weeks for an ultrasound. I have a terrible hangnail and cannot function. Because of the intense pain I cannot clean my house, cook any meals, walk the dog, clean the cat box or even, tragically, clean out my own nose. My quality of life is seriously suffering and my insurance doesn’t care. Their refusal to pay for hang nail surgery plus a cook, maid, butler, chauffeur, etc is just plain mean. They have the money! Too much in my opinion. Please can you intervene and force the insurance company to see reason?

And although it is done frequently, saying the “Catholic Church supports…” is completely inaccurate. The USCCB is but a small part of the “Catholic Church” and even American Catholics are not bound to agree with their political positions.
We have a Baptist congregation here in Kentucky that tried to keep same sex couples from singing and holding leadership positions in their church because they believe it is a sin. Your comment is akin to me saying that Baptists believe interracial marriage is a sin based on that example.

Planned Parenthood is an organization created for the destruction of the Minority Class in every country they thrive in. Their founder Margaret Sanger personally believed in the genocide by abortion of the Black, Latino and mentally challenged Community. It was her founding belief in creating “Planned” Parenthood. It was her belief for pushing birth control in New York State and to make it legal for “children” to take. Her belief was that kids at the age of maturity which was believed to be the age at which a girl had her first menstrual cycle and when that happened she wanted girls to be able to engage in sexual behavior even with “older” men.
So this is no surprise that this administration wants others to pay for another’s risky lifestyle.
