Obama ‘Hope’ Artist Creates Trayvon Martin Painting

Shepard Fairey, the street artist behind the iconic “Hope” poster of Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, has created a similarly-styled work in honor of Trayvon Martin.

According to Fairey’s website, Ebony magazine commissioned the image several months ago, but the artist was not able to unveil it “until the issue hit newsstands this week.”

The painting recreates the now-famous photo of Martin wearing a hoodie. The background features images from rallies demanding justice for the Florida teen’s death.

“I have followed Trayvon’s case closely and I think any compassionate human being can relate to Trayvon as a brother or son and would want to see a thorough investigation into the killing of an unarmed person,” Fairey said in a statement on his website. “In my portrait I wanted to emphasize Trayvon’s humanity as well as the public outcry for a just investigation into his death.”

As LA Weekly noted, Fairey’s detractors have been known to criticize him for “never meeting a social-justice cause he didn’t like.” Fairey has previously created art for Occupy Wall Street.

Volunteer neighborhood watch captain has been charged with second-degree murder in Martin’s death.

      the artist forgot to put the joint in martin’s mouth with him holding up a thug sign. If they want true justice, they would tell the whole story in the painting of martin. But the black community never wants true justice, only racist justice in favor of them.

If not, it makes no sense for Obama, the media, progressive radicals in Congress, and the New Black Panthers to make such a national outrage over this case. Yes it’s tragic, but similar tragedies occur every day in every city of the US. Why is this one so publicized?

      This will be the rallying cry or propaganda poster for the upcoming black on white race war that our government is hoping for. First they have to ban guns, because they know 99.9% of the whites will literally run down to their local police station to turn in their guns by the tens of millions (to be good, law abiding citizens), while the blacks will just hang on to theirs. Then once the whites are disarmed, the race war can begin against the whites. The government will redistribute the turned in guns to the black communities.

    Trayvan was not unarmed. He had his fists and he was slam dunking and pile driving a guy’s head into the concrete sidewalk? Is that innocence or innoncence lost? It is never good when a person dies. It is a good lesson to teach our children as our founding fathers were. They were upright outstanding men. Had we not let the Progressive Liberals revolutionary commies into office, America would have been a much better place today. Trayvon would had not used drugs, would be looking for to attending a University and have a future ahead of him. Mr. Zimmerman would not have been on trial for his life. All the more reasons to only vote in God Fearing, America loving, Constitutional respecting rugged individuals who process the qualities of the men who founded our Republic, our Nation.     While this may be a case of racial profiling, the black community does not protest with the same vigor against the daily violence within their communities. Whether it’s a girl watching TV at home who gets hit by a stray round or gangbangers killing each other, violence is rampant and common.     I hear you can get a copy, and blow them up life-sized, and mass produce. They make for great targets, and help you prepare for the banking collapse. Thus when the welfare check stops going out, and the dope smoking, welfare sucking thugs show up at your house with burglery tools, you will be conditioned to being able to place a bullet center mass of their head. Get used to the hood. It throws off your perception and messes up your shot.. These targets help you condition yourself to still hit between the eyes.       Just like with O.J. it did not matter what the prosecutors showed the jurors they would acquit O.J. In Zimmerman’s case it does not matter how much evidence you show proving Zimmerman acted in self defense they do not want what we see as justice …. they simply want Zimmerman to pay …period. A double standard? But of course …. it would not be liberal if it were anything else.

    I must not be a “…compassionate human being.” because I can‘t relate to this thug at all from what I’ve read.

    Why didn’t the artist do a painting based on a recent photograph? Why is every photo we see about this Martin at least a few yrs old? There is a reason they aren’t showing the gold toothed, tattooed, 6′3″ or 6′4″(height varies from report to report like everything else does with this story), thug he grew into?

    Note that I have no issue with tats and have a few myself, it just shows more than the little teenager being portrayed.
