Obama in 2003: ‘I Am Pro-Choice’ in All Situations, Including Late-Term Abortions

In the video above, the year was 2003 and President Barack Obama, then a seasoned state congressman, was running for the U.S. Senate in Illinois. A reporter can be heard asking him about his stance on abortion during a press conference in Springfield, Ill., and the future president of the United States provides an honest answer..
“I am pro-choice,” a noticeably younger Barack Obama replies.
“In all situations, including the late-term thing?” a reporter asks.
“I am pro-choice. I believe that women make responsible choices and they know better than anybody the tragedy of a difficult pregnancy and I don’t think that it’s the government’s role to meddle in that choice.”
If only there were more areas that he felt the government shouldn’t “meddle” in.
The nearly decade-old video, uncovered by the folks over at The Weekly Standard, displays what many people believe to be President Obama’s official position on abortion: staunchly pro-choice.
In another interview, Obama explained: “I voted no on the late-term abortion ban, not because I don’t recognize that these are painful issues but because I trust women to make these decisions.”
The issue may seem clear-cut from these videos, however, Obama has proven to be a bit of a flip-flopper when it comes to the controversial topic.
The Weekly Standard explains:
But over the years, Obama has been shifty on the issue of late-term abortion. As an Illinois state senator, Obama opposed the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. The problem, in Obama’s own words, was that in some cases the “fetus, or child — however you want to describe it“ was ”not just coming out limp and dead.” Supporters of the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act wanted to require doctors to provide medical care to these infants, while Obama wanted to leave it up to the discretion of the abortionist to determine whether these infants had a reasonable chance of sustained life.
But when Obama ran for president in 2008, he said that he supported states’ banning late-term abortions so long as the bans contained a “strict” exception for the physical health of the mother. Days later, Obama modified his position, saying he also supported an exception for “serious clinical mental health diseases.” Supreme Court reporter Jan Crawford noted at the time that Obama’s position was still “startling” because the exceptions Obama claimed to support were narrower than the Supreme Court’s 1973 edict in Doe v. Bolton that there must be “emotional, psychological, familial, and … age” exceptions to late-term abortion bans.
The Chicago Tribune reported in October 2004: “Obama said that had he been in the U.S. Senate two years ago, he would have voted for the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, even though he voted against a state version of the proposal.”
And when he ran for president 2008, Obama repeated those claims.

I am sorry to be so graphic and I know this might offend some, but it is time to discuss the real horror and truth. You can visibly see the fetus struggle for survival and witness the reaction to painful stimuli as it has a fully functioning nervous system very early in its developement. I know some mothers reading this might have had an abortion and I assure you my heart aches for you. There is forgiveness. I blame most of our abortion troubles on men. It is time that men start calling other men to account. They sleep with women in irresponsible and selfish ways and then often leave the women to “deal” with the child. I know it took 2 to create the child, but the men need to step up and be responsible. However, that is the problem, isn’t it? We have a growing number of little boys in large mens bodies. They are irresponsible, self-loving, and immature only seeking to gratify their own desirous and to hell with anyone else even their own unborn children. I believe that women make responsible choices and they know better than anybody the tragedy of a difficult pregnancy and I don’t think that it’s the government’s role to meddle in that choice.” So he did not take a stand relative to the questions as the situation and medical implications surrounding a late term procedure rest with the physician and the woman and are guided by state law as contained in Roe v. Wade – third trimester language.

Report Post »If a guy doesn‘t want to have a baby where a condom if the girl doesn’t then take a pill that she pays for or don’t have sex unlesssome sort of contraception is used. Any way you put it a decision was made by atleast one person that lead to having a baby. and i don’t want to hear about accidents because when the decision is being made the risks are supposed to be weighed. And if you don’t want to be responsible for your immature kids decisions then restrict them from being able to behave that way.
Being that everyone knows that girls are the ones who will have to carry the baby then they should be more responsible when making this decision. You talk about little boys in men bodies but thats so one sided. We got little girls running around looking like full grown women from the age of 15. And yes boys can have those negative charachteristics you listed but, lets make a distinction between all immature guys and just some becasue there are other char. that make someone immature. When men father many many children and are not involved in their financial and parental upbringing the woman is left in a place of hardship and typically poverty. Because men can easily exit the picture without having the burden of considering rasing a child and all the hardships that go with single parenting versus an abortion they act irresposibly and self-loving. While it is true that both have made a decision to have intercourse that led to conception (which I originally stated) often times the burden lands squarely on the woman’s shoulders. To argue as you have is to defy logic and all of the collected epidemiological data. To lay again the unfair burden upon a girl/woman is to again dodge resposibility as a man to care for your children. The statistics DO NOT LIE. When the father remains in the picture women are much less likely to choose abortion. Of course girls can be immature and make bad decisions. You have presumed much more than I have ever stated in my post. As the character of men go so go households and so goes a nation. When the family unit begins to crumble then so does a healthy society. When men feel the freedom to be immoral with many women and then abdicate their duties and responsibilities in favor of a “quick fix” it leads unquestionablly to more abortions as it places a enormous burden on young women…Thank you…

People do NOT have any right to avoid natural consequences of their decisions and actions. If I decide to borrow money to buy a house, I can‘t simply allege that the bank contract should be aborted and keep my lifestyle when I don’t want to pay, it is my right not to pay people – it’s my money. I don’t get to make a decision to shoot someone in the head and then want to abort going to jail for murder – it’s my life, I can choose not to go to jail. Those arguments are stupid and so is the “woman’s right” argument. How about I purchase your car, and then before giving you the money – I simply abort you, keep the money and the car. Reasonable people understand the victim in this are the babies, not the mom‘s and the dad’s – those are the purps. Murder is against the law and those who practice it or sponsor it should be accountable. Becoming a parent makes you responsible for that life – or it should. To this day, LoLo is right, and by the way, that baby tasted like dog. So America, I am for killing and eating babies, so I can keep blaming Bush for my problems.
