Obama Leaves Bill Clinton at White House Podium

President Barack Obama must have lots of faith in Bill Clinton’s ability to sell a policy — even if the policy is Obama’s own. During a Friday afternoon joint press conference with Clinton, Obama interjected that he had other business to attend to, leaving Clinton to pitch Obama’s tax “compromise” to the White House press corps:

I want to know when Jimmuh Cotta gets his turn at the podium.
I am not sure who OBs handlers are.
Either they are completely ineffective, or Barry told them to pound sand.

Looked like Daddy come to bail out his wayward son. What did Clinton say to the sitting president of the United States of America as he left? Thank you??? Bill should have been referring to him as Mr. President just to make sure it was clear that we all know who actually is president. With Hillary at State and now this it really makes one wonder about what Obama/Hilliary discussed at that so secret meeting on the campaign trail. Forgot about that didn’t you? Likie this. Mr Obama is now showing how desperate he has become in the running of the administration by the puppet master pulling his strings. Now the revolution is indeed coming, and watch out for Pelosi, there is most likely to be a suprise move on her part before the window closes on her in January. She and Van Jones (even if he is not an insider anymore) are the true dangers now.

The storm is here and now, the danger present and clear to some, we must shout the final warnings to as many who will listen – and then ready to close up the doors to the storm shelter.

No matter what comes, may God help us now.

No nodadazone you are wrong. We are watching a careful plan, beautifully executed. Keep looking at meaningless tax raises (the actual amount of income varies very little from year to year, see Broke). Like any good chessmaster you use mis-direction to get your opponent to look where you want him to look, not where you do not want him to look.
One of the two big pieces they need to complete the Facist take over is Net Nutrality. Muzzel the internet and the press. Let out only whjat they want you to see. Make it impossible to communicate. Checkmate! Watch what happens during the next 2 weeks. This will be done by the FCC. Whats a Congress?

Typical of conservatives to pay attention to the unimportant, while ignoring the important. Not a single one of you can articulate intelligently what the economic trade-offs here are, or why the tea party movement looks totally hypocritical by NOT protesting the $900B shortfall created by failing to fight the GOP on rich people tax cuts that will not stimulate the economy. Better to focus on the meaningless drama and continue making unsupported ad hominem arguments in your fantasy land rather than face the real world of economic facts and figures. Typical conservatives’ denialism and ignorance.

      What $900B shortfall?

Explain further please. And don‘t try the one about how much money the government and communist citizenry won’t be able to STEAL from their fellow citizens because of retaining the tax rates that have been in effect for approx. 10 years ALREADY. The first principle you DON‘T understand is that the fruits of other’s production belongs neither to you nor the government!!!! It BELONGS to the individual who invested their labor or other skills or resources into it’s production. Therefore, you cannot have a “shortfall” from something that wasn’t to begin with.

Now, let’s the discuss the 13 month extension of Unemployment ripoffs of their fellow citizens by those too dependent on HANDOUTS from others to either find a job or create their own. THAT is a shortfall as it creates MORE SPENDING that the demoncraps refuse to pay for (Wasn’t it the demoncraps that passed some kind of “pay as you go” legislation then promptly forgot all about actually applying it? I‘m pretty sure that’s correct.)

So come back on and fill us in with all the details of how you computed your fantasy shortfall.

      Okie,

“Ding ding…Anything you need understanding on I can gladly help….” Good, because I need a lot to understand the conservatives’ thinking on this. I really do.

You say stop spending, but no Republican can find $900B over 10 years to cut. Everyone can easily utter stop spending or cut the redundancies, but no one–not even Ryan or Cantor–can find the line items. I have carefully read the Pledge and all the statements made and it cannot be done. Even the recent blue-ribbon panels call for increases in effective tax rates to close the deficit. Reagan budget chief David Stockman has called the Republican party in denial and their ideas “fantasy” if they think you can solve the budget problem without tax hikes. So, please explain to me what specifically can be cut, since some pretty famous and smart people have failed to do so.

You also mention that rich people did not exclusively cause the problem. That is true. Lots of people got overextended. But the trigger to this crisis did occur on Wall Street, amongst pretty well-paid bankers, so they are not the only cause, but the most proximate one. And, unlike the average American, they were bailed out and then helped to earn back massive profits and bonuses in the subsequent years.

Finally, we have a progressive tax system and have had it for a long time. It is beyond question that we shift taxes based upon wallet size, and this has little to do with sex, color, age–factors for discrimination that are not only not widely accepted but are illegal. I think you should look at that again before making such a dim-witted comparison. A progressive tax is no more like discrimination than an age requirement is for becoming a Navy Seal.

I’ll wait for your response so you can educate me on my massive ignorance…

It BELONGS to the individual who invested their labor or other skills or resources into it’s production. Therefore, you cannot have a “shortfall” from something that wasn’t to begin with.”

So you raised a lot of muddled points in there, but I think I have it. Essentially, you are saying: 1) because the tax rates have been in place for 10 years, they cannot be questioned; 2) an individual’s income is his and no one else has a right to it; and 3) taxation is theft. You also wanted me to explain the $900B shortfall.

So here goes… First, it is not true logically that just because something is in place for 10 years means that it shouldn’t be reversed. How many years did we have slavery? How many years did we have segregation? There are tons of government policies that have been around for a long time and which are flawed and should be replaced. Without giving additional support, this would be a dopey way to argue for the current tax rates. But you do go on… The problem, however, with the contention that we all have a right to our property and earnings is, of course, that we also have an obligation to pay our bills. There are real services being provided by the government and they have real costs that need to be paid. Now, you may not like the amount of spending, but the GOP strategy of setting tax rates below the current level of spending without first cutting the spending is a very dishonest and irresponsible way of going about it. Some argue that this is the only way to starve the beast, but it also saddles our kids with debt and doesn’t exonerrate the GOP for failing to cut the spending while continuing to under-tax for that level of spending. It’s like you want to go to dinner, order $100 of food, wine and service, but only have $80 in your wallet and your grandkids’ credit card. Not good. And rights to your property have nothing to do with it, since you have relinquished your right to $100, much less the $80 in your wallet. This argument is especially forceful given the fact that Bush and his GOP controlled Congress had 6 years to cut spending and instead they raised the unfunded liabilities, which include current and future spending, by more than any other President, including Obama–those figures can be validated at the foundation website of Pete Peterson, Republican and former US Treasurer under Nixon. My argument, I think, also shows where the real theft is, assuming that we are now at the point of not being able to pay for that $100 meal even with the grandkids’ credit card.

You also wanted an explanation of the $900B. First, the figure itself is uncontroversial. It is an estimate of what the added cost of the GOP plan versus the Democratic plan was for extension of the tax cuts, calculated over a projection period of 10 years, which is standard government accounting practice. It is a good assumption, since the timing of the next debate on this is the Presidential election and we know what the likelihood of another extension will be then.

But most important is addressing what I believe to be your underlying assumption that you can only count increases in spending as being impactful on teh budget, but not decreases in taxation–since, you know, it’s my money. I think I‘ve already shown with the restaurant example that it ceases to be the taxpayers’ money if the taxpayers collectively are receiving real benefits from the government that they must pay for. But more immediate than this is the reality that the debtholders, whether they be Chinese or English or even American purchasers of US Treasuries, do not care whether they are not repaid because the US has overspent or undertaxed. They just want to be paid. From an economic/financial standpoint, the difference that the conservatives attempt to make between tax cuts (which they say don’t have to be offset to remain budget neutral) and spending increases (which they say do) is a false one that no debtholder will care about. Why does their opinion matter? Because they are the ones that can force the US into default, demand Ireland or Greece like austerity measures (that all call for tax hikes as well as spending cuts), rapid devaluation of the US dollar, huge jumps in inflation, and huge increases in interest rates. Thus, we should pay attention to what they say, not what conservative pundits who do not understand economics but know how to rile you up over your taxes to get what rich people–who will just bail to the BVI or Abu Dhabi when this whole thing blows up–want, which are irresponsible fiscal policies and tax rates.

You continue: “Now, let’s the discuss the 13 month extension of Unemployment ripoffs of their fellow citizens by those too dependent on HANDOUTS from others to either find a job or create their own. THAT is a shortfall as it creates MORE SPENDING that the demoncraps refuse to pay for (Wasn’t it the demoncraps that passed some kind of “pay as you go” legislation then promptly forgot all about actually applying it? I‘m pretty sure that’s correct.)”

I listen to enough conservative talk radio to have heard this meme a million times. The unemployed are lazy and their benefits pay them to stay that way. Setting aside the fact that the $300-something a month is not enough to live on in most places in this country, so these people are doing odd jobs to get by rather than sitting on their sofas, the reality is that the average unemployed American is competing against 5 people for that job and that is after getting an average hit rate on resume’s sent out of about 0.1%. These are figures that are readily available from consultants and temp firms, so I am not making this up. Unless you can produce real evidence that a very sizeable portion of Americans sit around and do nothing rather than look for work in the most challenging job market in 70 years, then you ought to retract your remarks. They are beyond off-base. They do not comport with reality, but merely the conservative narrative that the government spending is always bad. Luckily, something like 60% of Republicans and 75% of Americans support extension of unemployment benefits because, you know, they do not live in a fantasy world devoid of facts like conservatives who like Glenn Beck do.

“So come back on and fill us in with all the details of how you computed your fantasy shortfall.”

So I think that covers it. You can confirm the $900B at the US Treasury Department or NBER. And you can find the other facts I cite at Pete Peterson’s foundation website. ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS CLINTON DID IN OFFICE WAS TO SIGN A BILL EXCLUDING THE ART OF LIVING ARTISTS FROM INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS. All this while Rubin had the glorious 60“ x 76” Pointillist masterwork “Sunrise on the Shore” http://www.marcrubin.com/SUNRISE.ivnu on loan to the Clinton White House private quarters. — Clinton’s Arkansas benefactor (who shall remain nameless for now), who collected Rubin’s paintings, was so PISSED at Bill’s antics, he WROTE CLINTON OUT OF HIS WILL!

@ABC: I‘m not overly bright so you’ll probably bash my ideas to cut spending. Let’s start with all the millions of OUR stimulus money that went overseas, hum? How about putting a freeze on at least 50% of the bureaucracies, like say, all the donations made to ART, to save the SEALS, to building TURTLE TUNNELS, to research the affects of alcohol on mice, etc., etc. How about this new 55B Stimulus to subsidize “special” interest groups? It’s disgusting what our government spends money on! Have you looked at the list of bureaucracies and agencies that are currently funded by our tax monies? It takes two 8.5×11 inch sheets of paper to print the list out using a size 9 font!!! That tells me government is WAY TOO BIG. Let’s cut some senator and congressmen salaries, okay? After all they are all millionaires … oh, they cry they only average $179,000 per year but look at their financial statements (the REAL ones). It truly baffles me how many people cannot step back and apply common sense and household budgeting when analyzing what the government is doing. Those folks in Washington actually think that money belongs to them!!!!!!!

      @ABC

I am glad to give you a hand on this..Really it’s as easy as abc..just saying..

First, you say shortfall of 900 billion….Where is it you get 900 billion? The budget? Is the budget passed? Or is that the amount government won’t get unless they tax the top 2%? Just a guess? 900 billion over 10 years really is pocket change and not to mention just a number used, not a fact..We all know government projections are usually wrong and way off..Not to mention it’s 10 years, not next year..

Where to cut over ten years? Unemployment extension, food stamps, Congressional pay, parts of military, aid to other countries, BLOATED government, etc.. There is plenty of waste to eliminate a 900 billion shortfall in 10 years….Plus if you have a shortfall as you claim you’ll be forced to cut a little of everything would you not? If they want to do it, it can be done..it’s just easier to come back like a kid and just take more..

Sorry but you are wrong..The collapse was mortgage backed securities, due to Government forcing banks to loan to poor people whom could not afford it..Remember? So technically the poor people taking loans they knew they couldn’t afford caused the collapse, right? Are you suggesting we raise taxes on poor people for doing this?

Yes, our income tax system is discriminating..And yes, it was created by progressives..imagine that..They have a quirk about dividing people, not uniting..You say my argument makes no sense, using Navy seals as your point but your just distracting from truth….Kinda like saying woman not being allowed on subs isn’t discriminating, oh wait, it was and now they can..

Please how is dividing people by age, color, or weight different from dividing people by how much money they have? I mean shouldn’t older folks pay more since they have lived longer so more responsibility? Or shouldn’t fat obese people pay more since they consume more? All those are wrong as you target a group and treat the different from the rest…FACT…Below is the definition of discrimination so you can see the truth…

Again, glad to help..let me know if you need more enlightenment…

      dis·crim·i·na·tion [di-skrim-uh-ney-shuhn]
      –noun
      1. an act or instance of discriminating.
      2. treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination.
      3. the power of making fine distinctions; discriminating judgment: She chose the colors with great discrimination.
      4. Archaic. something that serves to differentiate.

Since little boy, Barack Obama, couldn’t sell his own tax cut deal to his own party, he had to call in the big boys to take over…

Bill Clinton did in five minutes what Barack Obama couldn’t do all week… He was articulate and able to calmly explain the basic deal in clear terms. He thanked the Republicans for coming to the table and warned that this deal could be much worse (for the Liberals) if they waited until the new year.

The news was the tax cut deal; but as I read in one op-ed, the story was the fact that Clinton had far better communication skills and the ability to reach out to the “common man.”

So much for Barack Obama’s “oratorical” skills… Can’t seem to talk his way out of a paper bag these days…

Hey ABC, you moron, that $900 billion shortfall isn’t the fault of Conservatives. When you spend money you don’t have, expecting to mooch off of others to pay your debt, it’s not the person who won’t let you steal his money that’s responsible for your problem. Saying that these tax cuts add to the deficit is like someone buying a $50,000 car he can’t afford, asking his neighbor if he can borrow the money to make his payments and then saying “you’re causing my debt to increase by $50,000 because you won’t make my car payments” when that neighbor tells him to take a hike. Do you idiots on the Left ever even think about some of the crap you say? “Rich people tax cuts?“ Do you actually think that you’re somehow entitled to rich people’s money? Do you think that people who bust their butts working for a living owe you stuff you can’t afford? Listen you little beggar, if you want better health insurance or some of the things that rich people have, go work for it and stop telling Obama to steal it for you.

I’m always so embarrassed when Obama loses his place on the prompter and has to ask for it to move (as he has no idea what he’s saying, I guess). Well, DUH?
