Obama Makes Weird Comment About Diverting Air Force One to Go See Chavez

HotAirPundit notes that CBS News reporter Mark Knoller first tweeted that Air Force One had left Lisbon:

Obama Makes Weird Comment About Diverting Air Force One to Go See Chavez

So far so good.  But then comes the weird part:

Obama Makes Weird Comment About Diverting Air Force One to Go See Chavez

CNN’s Ed Henry sent a similar tweet:

Obama Makes Weird Comment About Diverting Air Force One to Go See Chavez

Writing on Michelle Malkin’s site, Doug Powers wondered if maybe Obama wanted to return that book Hugo gave him, adding, “Sean Penn is most likely on his way to Venezuela as we speak just in case this is no joke.”

Or maybe he just wanted to learn more about democracy.  Progressives really like what’s going on there. Like Robert Naiman of “Just Foreign Policy.”  Is that a Soros-funded group?  He sure talks the talk:

What is serious here is……obama is ok with Iran going nuclear….ok with North Korea enriching more uranium….ok with Russia delivering two nuclear power plants to Chavez ….obama wants all rogue countries to have nuclear capabilities. Advice that I often give to dating women. Listen carefully to the jokes the guy makes on that first date and to his stories about past relationships.
For instance, “I wasted a lot of money on a romantic cruise with my ex.“ Can be interpreted as ”That sort of thing ain’t ever going to happen again.”
You can tell a lot about what his real intentions are.

Maybe Chavez can offer him some pointers on how to secure that dictatorship he’s always wanted and more efficiently ruin a country in the name of social and economic “justice.”

Liberation theology began in Latin America before it was appropriated by blacks in the United States, so the Czar of czars may just want to explore the roots of his political religion.

What failures? The economy is in better shape now than where Bush left it. The majority of Americans favor keeping the health care reforms. His reform of education financing will save the Treasury tens of billions. And his foreign policy moves have improved relations with Russia, while avoiding the problems with China that Bush faced in his first two years. Most importantly, we have not been hit by terrorists in our first year, which Bush cannot claim. Obama even cut your taxes. You clearly dislike him because of something besides what his policies and agenda are. Are you irrational? I would have thought that such improvements that benefit the vast majority of Americans would cause them to like him. But some people irrationally hate the guy regardless of the facts.

DrBeatle, you are very foolish. You believe that by calling my facts rhetoric you can ignore them. The way to rebut the facts is to say something like: the growth rate was actually higher in the last year of Bush, or the specific Democratic policy clearly tanked the economy and here are many economists with data to show the veracity of my claim. But you don’t do this. You assert without any evidence that I am wrong and you are right. This is not an intelligent claim, but an argument made by an ignoramus. Either the facts prove you right or you are wrong. I’m still waiting for any facts from you. And that you confuse facts with rhetoric, although I clearly have produced facts–verifiable at the US Treasury department website–you choose to ignore them. You prefer your fantasy that is contrary to facts to reality. It would be amusing if it weren’t so sad. I know it is hard for human beings to admit they are wrong, but it would seem equally tough to live a factually incorrect set of beliefs for so long…

Swampy, that is the wrong question. We do not ask whether the economy is better for i-bankers than steelworkers. We look at factors that describe the overall economy, like GDP growth, unemployment and inflation. When those figures are doing terribly and then start to improve, the conclusion is that the vast majority of people in the economy are doing better than they were two years ago. And all the statistical data bears that out. You are nit-picking to stay mad at Obama while denying him credit for what he should take credit for. This is dishonest use of stats and economic data.

Dusty, calling me names or falsely claiming that my argument is the equivalent of 2+2=5 do not constitute a rebuttal. You have to show WHY my argument is false, not merely state your (false) unsupported opinion as though it is fact. Honestly, what kind of education did you people obtain to have such a poor grasp of the difference between fact and opinion. Really, really sad.

Now,… we have more homeless than we did when Bush was in office. We have much higher unemployment than we had under Bush. More people live in poverty under Obama. People’s wages have stagnated under Obama (unless you have a government job!) The last figures I saw (about a week ago) for how popular the Obamacare law is, close to 70% of Americans think its a disaster and want it repealed. Spending under Obama has tripled in his first two years in office compared to all of the eight years Bush was in. Its as if Obama is trying to break the bank ON PURPOSE.

I also would ask you to go to any blog that has people from florida. Then ask how many store closings in their area and if they live near any ghost towns in their state since Obama has become president. You will be floored by the response. In fact, ask the same Q’s of people from any state that is suffering under Obama. If you will listen to real world economists you will find they are all scared as heck. You should stop listening to any pro-Obama economists because they are trying to cover for his administration. And on top of that we now know that the OMB was lying about the numbers given about how much the Obamacare plan would cost, so at this point EVERYONE in government is suspect.

Employment always lags economic downturns, so of course the unemployment rate is lower. But the steepest drops in employment occurred under Bush and were turned around under Obama. It will take a lot of time to recover those jobs, but this isn‘t Obama’s fault. The implosion in the economy and the resistance to move quickly and large on the stimulus was due to Republican denial, not Obama or his team that orginally sought even more aggressive stimulus. The last year of Bush had a slightly lower unemployment rate that was still rising fast (7.5%), while Obama has a higher one that is stablized and hopefully dropping over the next two years (9.3%).

“Taxes could possibly go much much higher and his congress was just voted out because of his policies being deemed bad by voting Americans.”

The voters are unhappy about the economy and unemployment, but it cannot be about policy choices since the GOP has offered none. Politically, this is smart. Why give the voter something to criticize on the right when they are so angry with the left. But it also means that this is not about policy specifics.

Dave, I’m confused. You want to be taken seriously, but then link me to a little known economist at the U of Western Australia who admits that his views are out of the mainstream. Doesn’t engender much credibility, but whatever. It seems that you, like he, is concerned about deflation, but then you call for rapid deleveraging, which the IMF–which just put out a definitive 25 year study on the subject–has warned will significantly reduce growth, thereby raising the risk of deflation. The gov’t spending and stimulus programs, along with ultra-low interest rates, are designed to prevent deflation. So you are falsely claiming that Bernanke is not focused on the right thing (deflation) when that is exactly what he is focused on. Meanwhile, you are calling for (apparently) massive deleveraging which is deflationary. So your argument makes no sense. As for the metrics you cite that are better under Bush than Obama, you DO understand that those are not leading indicators but lagging artifacts of a terrible recession that occurred under Bush and was many years in the making. The laissez-faire, regulations light policies going back to Reagan are mainly to blame, but conservatives refuse to see this. The many homes that are under water are not the fault of Obama or even the ‘07 congress, but the fact that many crummy loans were written and allowed to be written, and then packaged together under the false claim that one piece of s**t loan is bad, but 1,000 is good. That people are suffering through foreclosures is sad, but also understand the the rate would be faster if the GOP had its way. Obama and the Dems have sought to soften the blows, while Republicans want to let the market rule. So this is a strange rebuttal to someone who supports Obama more than Bush and regulations more than laissez-faire capitalism. Your observation supports my contention rather than attacking it. Sad you don’t see this.

The majority of people support Obamacare? Says who? No poll I have ever seen has placed support higher than 50%. Some majority. And you know what else would save the gov’t tens of billions? Abolishing the unconstitutional DoEd.

It is clear from your last post that you have no idea what laissez-faire capitalism is, because we have most definitely not been practicing it, not even under Reagan. What we have been practicing is a half-baked crony “capitalism” where success doesn’t rest on what you do, but who you know. For all your talk about facts, it is interesting that you leave out one very important fact: that the gov’t incentivized bad loans by REQUIRING Fannie and Freddie to have a certain percentage of such loans–loans that probably wouldn’t be paid back, so they had to be sold and speculated on so the lenders could make money on them. This is what brought down the economy in ‘08, and yes, Bush was partially to blame because he increased the required percentage.

It seems you don’t read past this first page so I wanted to make sure you got these. Both can be found on page 6 of this thread and they are authored By EL ZORRO. Enjoy…

“Putting aside Obama’s inept leadership, weakening of our national defenses and transparent attempt to socialize our great nation, there are a number of more practical crimes that once investigated could lead to Obama’s impeachment and perhaps even his well deserved imprisonment.
25 Obama Crimes the House Should Investigate in 2011
Convicted felon and Chicago real estate developer Tony Rezko’s purchase of land adjacent to Obama’s house in Hyde Park, IL. In 2006, Rezko sold a 10 foot strip of his property to Obama for $104,500, rendering the remainder of Rezko’s $625,000 investment too small to be developed and, for all intents and purposes, worthless.
The provision of Obama campaign donor lists to ACORN in 2007 and 2008, more complete than the ones he provided to the FEC. ACORN used the lists to raise money for Obama’s election from donors who had already maxed out their legally allowable contributions.
Widespread voter fraud including voter intimidation, ballot stuffing, falsified documents, and threats of violence against Hillary Clinton supporters committed by the Obama campaign and ACORN during the 2008 Democrat primary election. For more information see my CFP article How Obama Used an Army of Thugs to Steal the 2008 Democratic Party Nomination.
Obama’s refusal to release his long form birth certificate which would show conclusively that he is a dual citizen and therefore not constitutionally eligible to serve as President. Obama’s college records, which have also not been released, would also contain information regarding his dual citizenship status.

Bullying BP to set up a $20 billion slush fund to compensate Gulf Coast businesses and residents affected by the oil spill, to be administered by an Obama political appointee without any judicial or congressional oversight.
Implementing a third oil-drilling moratorium after the first two were thrown out of court, creating a de facto Gulf Coast offshore drilling ban in opposition to two judge’s rulings.
Establishment of a commission to investigate the Gulf Coast oil spill that contains not one oil industry expert and whose transparent purpose is to push a partisan political agenda rather than investigate the cause of the disaster.
Obama’s policy of intentionally not securing our nation’s borders, in opposition to Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution which calls for the President to protect states from foreign invasion, in an attempt to blackmail Republican support for comprehensive immigration reform. In essence, Obama is holding border states and residents politically hostage during a time they are being overrun by a narco-paramilitary invasion.
Department of Justice illegal race based policies regarding voter fraud as exposed by former Justice attorney J. Christian Adams. This includes the dropping of voter intimidation charges against 2 Black Panthers brandishing weapons in front of a voting location in Philadelphia and the stated intention by political appointees to ignore voter crimes committed by African Americans, Latinos and other minorities.
Department of Justice purposefully allowing some states to continue their disenfranchisement of military personnel serving overseas in direct opposition to the 2009 Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act, which was established in response to the more than 17,000 military votes that were not counted in the 2008 election because ballots had arrived after the deadline.
Recess appointment of Donald Berwick as head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services without even a token attempt to put him through the Congressional nomination process, signaling that Congress’s constitutional obligation to vet presidential appointees means nothing to Obama. The same can be said of the 30+ Obama administration czars.
Spending $23 million of taxpayer money through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to support a constitutional referendum in Kenya in spite of the Siljander Amendment, which makes it illegal for the U.S. to lobby for abortion in other countries. The Kenyan referendum was partially written by Planned Parenthood and is designed to legalize abortion in that nation.
The participation of the Obama administration in the firing of Sherry Sherrod from the USDA without due process because of publicized out of context remarks she made at a NAACP meeting in March 2010.
The White House sham investigation of BP’s involvement in the release of the mass murdering Lockerbie bomber from prison. The Obama administration not only knew beforehand of the Scottish government’s plan to set Abdel Baset al-Megrahi free on “compassionate” grounds, they even sent a letter to Scottish authorities stating their preference for his remaining in Scotland over his transfer to a Libyan prison.
The canceling of 77 properly filed oil field development contracts approved by the Bush administration by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, preventing the extraction of up to 3 trillion gallons of oil buried under Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and North Dakota, more than enough to end our dependence on foreign oil and supply the U.S. with its energy needs for hundreds of years at current consumption rates.
Investigations by the Department of Homeland Security to determine the political affiliation of people making Freedom of Information Act requests and the subsequent delay and even altogether ignoring of requests made by Republican affiliated individuals.
The hardest to prosecute in court, but worst crime of all that Obama has perpetrated against the American people is the economic tyranny that his socialist policies have wrecked upon our nation. While Obama has been living the life of a king, including frequent 5 star vacations, dozens of concerts at the White House and endless rounds of golf, all paid for by taxpayer money—the increased transportation and security costs alone are in the millions of dollars—he has called for the rest of us to endure economic sacrifice. The annual trillion dollar deficits and borrowing of 41 cents of every dollar of government spending by Obama is leading to unsustainable and potentially catastrophic debt.
      Something to Look Forward to
These 25 crimes are just what I’ve been able to dig up over the past couple of weeks. No doubt there are many more that I have missed or still as yet undiscovered. While any one may be sufficient to impeach Obama, taken as a whole it demonstrates that Obama has little to no regard for the rule of law.
I look forward to a Republican controlled House of Representatives uncovering Obama’s corrupt dealings and exposing this man as unworthy of the office of President.”

And now for the second message to you…

ABC… So . . . You think you know quite a bit about Obama and his band of thieves. Read on and see just how little you know. All of this comes together in the last part… a must read.
This is an interesting story put together from various articles and TV shows by the British Times paper. It shows what Obama and his friends are really all about. It’s not hope and change, it is money.
I warn you, the first part is a little boring, but stick with it. The second part connects all the dots for you (it will open your eyes). The end explains how Obama and all his cronies will end up as multi-billionaires. (It’s definitely worth the read. You will not be disappointed).
A small bank in Chicago called SHOREBANK almost went bankrupt during the recession. The bank made a profit on its foreign micro-loans (see below) but had lost money in sub-prime mortgages in the US. It was facing likely closure by federal regulators. However, because the bank’s executives were well connected with members of the Obama Administration, a private rescue bailout was arranged. The bank‘s employees had donated money to Obama’s Senate campaign. In other words, ShoreBank was too politically connected to be allowed to go under.
ShoreBank survived and invested in many “green” businesses such as solar panel manufacturing. In fact, the bank was mentioned in one of Obama’s speeches during his election campaign because it subjected new business borrowers to Eco-litmus tests.
Prior to becoming President, Obama sat on the board of the JOYCE FOUNDATION, a liberal charity. This foundation was originally established by Joyce Kean’s family which had accumulated millions of dollars in the lumber industry. It mostly gave funds to hospitals but after her death in 1972, the foundation was taken over by radical environmentalists and social justice extremists.
This JOYCE FOUNDATION, which is rumored to have assets of 8 billion dollars, has now set up and funded, with a few partners, something called the CHICAGO CLIMATE EXCHANGE, known as CXX. It will be the exchange (like the Chicago Grain Futures Market for agriculture) where Environmental Carbon Credits are traded.
Under Obama’s new bill, businesses in the future will be assessed a tax on how much CO2 they produce (their Carbon Footprint) or in other words how much they add to global warming. If a company produces less CO2 than their allotted measured limit, they earn a Carbon Credit. This Carbon Credit can be traded on the CXX exchange. Another company, which has gone over their CO2 limit, can buy the Credit and “reduce” their footprint and tax liability. It will be like trading shares on Wall Street.
Well, it was the same JOYCE FOUNDATION, along with some other private partners and Wall Street firms that funded the bailout of ShoreBank. The foundation is now one of the major shareholders. The bank has now been designated to be the “banking arm” of the CHICAGO CLIMATE EXCHANGE (CXX). In addition, Goldman Sachs has been contracted to run the investment trading floor of the exchange.
So far so good; now the INTERESTING parts.
One ShoreBank co-founder, named Jan Piercy, was a Wellesley College roommate of Hillary Clinton. Hillary and Bill Clinton have long supported the bank and are small investors.
Another co-founder of Shorebank, named Mary Houghton, was a friend of Obama’s late mother. Obama’s mother worked on foreign MICRO-LOANS for the Ford Foundation. She worked for the foundation with a guy called Geithner. Yes, you guessed it. This man was the father of Tim Geithner, our present Treasury Secretary, who failed to pay all his taxes for two years.
Another founder of ShoreBank was Ronald Grzywinski, a cohort and close friend of Jimmy Carter.
The former ShoreBank Vice Chairman was a man called Bob Nash. He was the deputy campaign manager of Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid. He also sat on the board of the Chicago Law School with Obama and Bill Ayers, the former terrorist. Nash was also a member of Obama’s White House transition team.
(To jog your memories, Bill Ayers is a Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He founded the Weather Underground, a radical revolutionary group that bombed buildings in the 60s and 70s. He had no remorse for those who were killed, he escaped jail on a technicality, and he is still an admitted Marxist).
When Obama sat on the board of the JOYCE FOUNDATION, he “funneled” thousands of charity dollars to a guy named John Ayers, who runs a dubious education fund. Yes, you guessed it. The brother of Bill Ayers, the terrorist.
Howard Stanback is a board member of Shorebank. He is a former board chairman of the Woods Foundation. Obama and Bill Ayers, the terrorist, also sat on the board of the Woods Foundation. Stanback was formerly employed by New Kenwood Inc., a real estate development company co-owned by Tony Rezko.
(You will remember that Tony Rezko was the guy who gave Obama an amazing sweet deal on his new house. Years prior to this, the law firm of Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland had represented Rezko’s company and helped him get more than 43 million dollars in government funding. Guess who worked as a lawyer at the firm at the time. Yes, Barack Obama).
Adele Simmons, the Director of ShoreBank, is a close friend of Valerie Jarrett, a White House senior advisor to Obama. Simmons and Jarrett also sit on the board of a dubious Chicago Civic Organization.
Van Jones sits on the board of ShoreBank and is one the marketing directors for “green” projects. He also holds a senior advisor position for black studies at Princeton University. You will remember that Mr. Van Jones was appointed by Obama in 2009 to be a Special Advisor for Green Jobs at the White House. He was forced to resign over past political activities, including the fact that he is a Marxist.
Al Gore was one of the smaller partners to originally help fund the CHICAGO CLIMATE EXCHANGE. He also founded a company called Generation Investment Management (GIM) and registered it in London, England. GIM has close links to the UK-based Climate Exchange PLC, a holding company listed on the London Stock Exchange. This company trades Carbon Credits in Europe (just like CXX will do here) and its floor is run by Goldman Sachs. Along with Gore, the other co-founder of GIM is Hank Paulson, the former US Treasury Secretary and former CEO of Goldman Sachs. His wife, Wendy, graduated from and is presently a Trustee of Wellesley College. Yes, the same college that Hillary Clinton and Jan Piercy, a co-founder of Shorebank attended. (They are all friends).
      Interesting? And now the closing…
Because many studies have been exposed as scientific nonsense, people are slowly realizing that man-made global warming is nothing more than a money-generating hoax. As a result, Obama is working feverishly to win the race. He aims to push a Cap-and-Trade Carbon Tax Bill through Congress and into law.
Obama knows he must get this passed before he loses his majority in Congress in the November elections. Apart from Climate Change he will “sell” this bill to the public as generating tax revenue to reduce our debt. But, it will also make it impossible for US companies to compete in world markets and drastically increase unemployment. In addition, energy prices (home utility rates) will sky rocket.
But, here’s the KICKER (THE MONEY TRAIL).
If the bill passes, it is estimated that over 10 TRILLION dollars each year will be traded on the CXX exchange. At a commission rate of only 4 percent, the exchange would earn close to 400 billion dollars to split between its owners, all Obama cronies. At a 2 percent rate, Goldman Sachs would also rake in 200 billion dollars each year.
But don’t forget SHOREBANK. With 10 trillion dollars flowing though its accounts, the bank will earn close to 40 billion dollars in interest each year for its owners (more Obama cronies), without even breaking a sweat.
It is estimated Al Gore alone will probably rake in 15 billion dollars just in the first year. Of course, Obama’s “commissions” will be held in trust for him at the Joyce Foundation. They are estimated to be over 8 billion dollars by the time he leaves office in 2013, if the bill passes this year. Of course, these commissions will continue to be paid for the rest of his life.
Some financial experts think this will be the largest “scam” or “legal heist” in world history. Obama’s cronies make the Mafia look like rank amateurs. They will make Bernie Madoff’s fraud look like penny ante stuff.

This is dishonest use of stats and economic data

The ends justify the means basicly, correct? Doesnt matter how they funnel the taxpayers money

I believe in my core that this man endangers the United States of America. It seems to me he is coming unglued from the stresses of the office, and his massive character deficit is blossoming before our eyes. He is broken little boy inside little Barry Soetoro, who was unloved, rejected, carried around like inconvenient luggage by those who were supposed to care, love, and nurture him. He carefully constructed a persona, but lies cannot withstand a constant barrage of truth. His facade has been breached, and he knows it. The world is crashing in on little Barry Soetoro.

I honestly don’t know if two more years is a tenable option if the country is to survive intact.

I agree — seems the POTUS is coming unglued. Nobody respects him anymore. Soros has even fired a salvo over his head, telling the world that if Obama can‘t accomplish Soros’ plan, he’ll find someone else. Chavez may be one of Obamas last “real” friends.

What is noteworthy here is that these two reporters are from CBS and CNN. Perhaps they are finally waking up to the fact that Obama isn’t who they think he is.

It is not only tenable, but constitutionally required. He was lawfully elected to a four-year term, so President he shall remain. You are not an American or committed to democracy when you make such comments. How shameful. You are free to dislike this President and call him every name in the book. But you are not allowed to unlawfully cut short his term because you do not like him. That is not how people operate in a democracy. You cannot name impeachable offenses (or you would have), so one can only include that you propose to cut short his term in an unlawful manner. You are the type that would support undemocratic means of removing him, and then you pat yourself on the back for being better than Chavez. What a joke!

Silver, you do realize that the “article” you cite is written by Jerome Corsi, who has been discredited completely. See, for example:

      http://www.newshounds.us/2008/08/13/discredited_jerome_corsi_given_another_favorable_platform_on_fox_news.php

      http://mediamatters.org/research/200808150001

Both the Democratic and Republican leaders in Hawaii have repeated stated that Obama was born there and is a legitimate President. Moreover, Corsi has helped to support multiple lawsuits claiming that Obama is not a US-born and thus not legitimate as President. These cases have all been thrown out of court even by Republican judges because they have done preliminary diligence to satisfy themselves that these are false claims. Only fools would believe Corsi, given the preponderance of evidence against him. He is making up stuff and those who listen hate Obama so much that they actually will believe disproven fantasies irrationally in support of that hate. This is sad and shows how dumb some people can be. Either you produce evidence that hasn’t already been repeatedly disproven or you will have to concede the argument. And I’ll assume a non-reponse is concession that I am right and you are sadly mistaken.

It is un-American and unconstitutional to demand removal of a President that you subjectively do not like if the law doesn’t allow it. Also, Obama is not a Marxist. Stop lying or produce evidence of marxist policy. Calling people names without factual evidence is not an argument. It is the behavior of a three year old. First, We are NOT a democracy! We are supposed to be a representative republic. Secondly, as long as we still have a Constitution we can say what we like; just as your mentally challenged ilk did under G. Bush.
As far as removing this tool from office; I think there is probably enough grounds to do so if our elected members of Congress did their jobs. Since he took and oath to protect and obey the Constitution, and has done neither; this is a start. As even the leaders within the demonicratic party have admitted they did not verify his citizenship; if he fails to be legit, if and when anyone is ever able to see proof, he may be tried as a criminal, along with those same people who didn’t verify his citizenship.

Really? He is an Obama propagandist who uses govt. sites to “prove” his points. All his arguments are circular. The govt. says x, the govt. economists prove x so x is true and if you don‘t believe it you are an ignoramus who can’t prove anything. The govt. is doing great, and all failures can be traced to some Republican president and conservative ideology. You find that interesting? Doesn’t it scare you that these are the kinds of people who reproduce themselves in your children?

All commie govts. have people like ABC, whose job it is to effectively spread their lies and propaganda in a given sector of society. Perhaps you find it interesting now, but I can assure you that by 2012 you will want to puke when you hear the massaged stats and the fabricated jobs rammed down your throat on a regular basis by the state-controlled media.

To my knowledge, never before in the history of America had a president expressed a desire to drop by and see an effing commie on his way home. That comment was not just in poor taste. Obama is starting to come out of the closet.

Highland, STOP LYING. The economy was destroyed before Obama took office. Since then, job losses have turned into job gains and GDP is growing again. Credit is flowing and banks have improved their capital reserves. You are so ignorant of the economy, so you should hold your tongue. Else, you look like a fool. You are entitled to your own opinion (e.g., I do not like Obama) but not your own facts (e.g., the economy has gotten worse under Obama). The fact is that the economy was much worse in the last few months under Bush than it is today, and it is the Democratic Congress and President that fixed the problems, not Bush, nor the Republicans that won in a landslide. That they couldn’t fix it fast enough is why the Democrats lost. And that there are millions of IGNORANT people like you that know nothing about the economy, this also helped the GOP cause. But you are not allowed to LIE about the facts. So stop the dishonesty. It is very unAmerican.

ABC – please, put the crack pipe down, you are embarassing yourself.

“Since then, job losses have turned into job gains and GDP is growing again.”
The only time in the last 10 years that GDP has declined was under Democratic controlled congress, beginning 3rd quarter of ‘08, and job losses and job gains don’t make a bit of difference, as most numbers are adjusted seasonally. take a look at overall unemployment figures to get aq clear picture of job growth. Bush hovered around 6% duruing his 8 years, and Obama and the Dem Congress have pushed that up near 10%.

“Credit is flowing and banks have improved their capital reserves.”
You obviously are not involved in small business or banking. Credit is NOT flowing. Your Democratic leaders pumped billions into the system, yet gave no mandates to banks for them to actually loan the money out. A bank can make more money and no risk by buying treasuries than by taking risk to loan money out. Banks are investing thier money, not offering credit in any form.

“The fact is that the economy was much worse in the last few months under Bush than it is today and it is the Democratic Congress and President that fixed the problems”

By what factors are you basing you so-called “facts”? The Budget? The Deficit? Unemployment? Trade balance? You blast people for not using “facts”, well, back this one up. I really want to see what you pick out to prove the economy is any better now… and please don’t just look at the last few months of the Bush era – spread that out over at least a year to give a bit of relevance.

Also, the Dems haven’t fixed anything, and it’s not “just a matter of time”. Stimulus did not work. The extra regulatory burdens of Obamacare have not helped the economy either. Financial reform was an epic failure as well. Your precious president also did nothing to question the Fed with thier Quantitative Easing scheme, which is leading to inflation and a drop in the value of the dollar. Maybe I’m missing something, but I‘d be curious which of the Dem’s agenda items is going to turn this economy around, given enough time.

Rogue, thanks for the reply. I hope that you will stay with me so you can make me understand the Republican mind on this. Hopefully, you are up to the task…

You write: “By what factors are you basing you so-called “facts”? The Budget? The Deficit? Unemployment? Trade balance? You blast people for not using “facts”, well, back this one up. I really want to see what you pick out to prove the economy is any better now… and please don’t just look at the last few months of the Bush era – spread that out over at least a year to give a bit of relevance.”

So the economy’s health is determined by GDP growth, employment levels and inflation. These are the factors that the Fed is tasked with implementing monetary policy to optimize (i.e., move in the right direction). These three measures are all better now than they were in th final year under Bush. GDP was falling at a mid to high single digit rate, while more than 8 million jobs were lost under Bush in his final year alone. Inflation was threatening to turn negative, which is deflation, which is much worse than even hyperinflation. We now have positive GDP growth of low single digits, job creation in the private sector, and very modest inflation–with the threat of deflation receding (as evidenced by the bond market and stock market not tanking). The stock market is up substantially, and Warren Buffett (who knows far more than you about finance and economics) is thanking the Obama administration and the Fed for taking the necessary steps for stabilizing the economy. Those are all facts. Hopefully, you can recognize facts and accept them. Else, you can rebut them. But that will require you to MAKE up false GDP, employment and inflation data, not to mention fake stock market index levels. I hope you will not just ignore this when wrong, but help me understand how you can ignore these facts and continue to assert that the economy is not better now than a year ago. You can continue to hate Obama, but not becuase the economy is worse. It is not. You are not entitled to your own facts. Please explain or concede…

You also write: “Also, the Dems haven’t fixed anything, and it’s not “just a matter of time”. Maybe I’m missing something, but I‘d be curious which of the Dem’s agenda items is going to turn this economy around, given enough time.”

So you perpetuate the lie that stimulus did not work despite all evidence to the contrary. Not only have the most conservative economists teaching at our leading universities (e.g., Becker) admitted that the stimulus had a positive impact, but the smartest guy in finance and economics, Warren Buffet, went so far as to thank the Obama administration and the Federal Reserve for saving our bacon. Recall that under Bush, the entire CP market had frozen up. This means that all small and even large businesses could not gain credit to roll over existing short-term loans to buy inventory to continue their business. This is the equivalent of the heart stopping. The bailouts and the stimulus package, which even Bush and Cheney endorsed, were necessary to restart the flow of credit, as every expert has clearly acknowledged. The final approval of the stimulus corresponds with the restart of the CP market, not to mention marks the bottom of the stock market. These means that the millions of investors that “vote” with their money are saying that you are wrong: that passing the stimulus did mark the lowest point of economic risk and concern about us going into a Great Depression. So even conservative economists disagree with you, even the smartest investor in a generation disagrees with you, and the majority of investors around the globe disagree with you. And your claim fails to account for the recovery of key credit and stock markets with the passage of the stimulus, so the facts also disagree with your claim. You can continue to believe in Santa Claus, but you look foolish given the preponderance of evidence.

Now, you also question whether the President is questioning QE2. This is foolish. As any intelligent and educated person knows, the Fed is supposed to be politically independent. This means that if the President questions Bernanke, it undermines the independence of the Fed and hampers its authority, which the markets rely upon. This is far worse than the President criticizing the Supreme Court over Citizens United, since his criticism doesn’t hamper the SCOTUS, which can continue to rule as they choose. However, the markets will begin to second-guess the Fed if they think it is being influenced by the President. And, unlike Supreme Court justices that are appointed for life, the chairman of the Fed could conceivably be influenced. Of course, conservatives heavily criticized the President for undermining the independence of the Supreme Court–a dubious claim given their lifetime appointments–but they are on the wrong side of the issue in this case, when the undermining claim is not dubious. Foolish logic on your part.

You also claim that we are seeing inflation, even though the latest CPI report showed very, very low inflation, especially when energy is taken out. Energy is an international market that is being driven by China. China has inflation risks, while ours remain low. The US bond markets are all at record low levels–50 year lows–which is the clearest indication that millions of bond purchasers and traders think that you are wrong. Nice try, though.

Finally, you point to a weakening dollar. But you didn’t say whether you are talking about short-term or long-term declines. You should try to be more precise when you make arguments. In any case, I’ll assume that you mean short-term, since you are attacking Obama and he’s only been in office for a short while. You must remember that during flights to quality, the world stashes their investments in gold and the US dollar. So, when Obama took office, the dollar had moved up a lot against the Euro and other currencies. As the crisis has abated, the opposite has happened. This is not a problem with Obama, but a reversion back to normalcy.

As for the long-term decline in the dollar, there are many reasons for it. The protracted deficits in the US are one of them. But this is not Obama alone. Yes, the deficit doubled under Obama versus Bush’s last year. But Bush’s last year reflected a doubling over his prior year. Why? Because in recessions, government spending goes up (think unemployment benefits) while its tax revenues decline (think unemployment, asset value declines, etc.). While conservatives have harped about Obama’s first year deficit, they were silent about the doubling of the deficit in Bush’s final year. But this is only half the story. Because the government is not required to use accrual accounting like private companies are, one President can add to the debt although it doesn’t hit the deficits for years or decades. So when Bush signed (and a Republican Congress passed) Medicare Part D, they added up to $32 TRILLION to the debt without paying for it. Similarly, when Bush passed tax cuts, he added about $700 Billion per year to the deficits without finding offsetting spending cuts. He also put the Iraq and Afghan wars off-balance sheet, which means they hid them from the deficits as calculated by Bush. Bush also got rid of the pay-go program that Clinton used to maintain balanced budget spending. Obama took the off-balance sheet spending and put it back on balance sheet, which hurt his deficit numbers–that Republicans focus on–but which are a more honest accounting system than Bush used. He hasn’t shifted to pay-go, although the need for deficit spending during a deep recession is a good reason to not pursue that now. Overall, there is no question that Bush has done more to hurt the balance of payments than Obama and certainly more than Clinton, who conservatives said should be impeached despite producing the best economy since the 1950′s. Bottom line, conservatives have complained about tax and spend Democrats while doing much more to hurt the balanced budget goal than any Democratic President–who, because he holds the veto power, should be held accountable ultimately. These are all facts. Either you refute them or you concede the argument.

I expect that you will simply ignore my contention, so I’ll assume that silence is tacit concession that I am right and you are wrong. But please respond. I want to understand how untruths can persist in the conservative mind when all economic evidence runs contrary to those conservatives’ claims.

Noname, you write: “Rogue is without a doubt correct, under the Bush admin. things got a ton worse when your boys Bawney Fwank and Chris Doodoo got to their respective financial chairs in the Senate on Jan 1. 2007…..But thank you for calling out all the overreaction to a TWEET. A FREAKING TWEET. I don’t much care for the Pres. but he can’t make a joke on Twitter????????? ”

First, Rogue is not correct, and I have written a lengthy response to expose his obvious lies. Second, your blaming things on Dems like frank is also incorrect insofar as it assigns far more blame and causality to their actions than should be expected given the true facts involved. Let me introduce you to a term used by psychiatrists and economists alike: confirmation bias. It means that a person tends to see the world not as it is or as the majority of facts would show that it is; rather, they see it as they want it to be. If I am a marxist and believe in material determinism, then I would see all art and culture and politics as being driven by the economic system that underlie it. This is a powerful theory but also ignores the importance of individuals in driving history and society. But marxists tend to ignore charismatic individuals that can shift history or society. What does this have to do with your comment? You have chosen to focus on one very small part of the economic crisis because it is one that can be used to blame Democrats. The data, however, clearly shows that Barney Frank (through his support of Freddie and Fannie) played a very small role in the crisis. The default rates on loans from Freddie and Fannie are much, much lower than those originated by private banks, so blaming this on the government while ignoring the much bigger role of greedy private bankers is distorting the story to score political points rather than providing an honest assessment of the crisis. I am not surprised that you do this, but it is not true to assert that things got a lot worse because of Barney Frank or the Democrats. You are making statements that do not comport with the facts. The financial crisis was caused by a massive number of bad loans and overleverage amongst private banks that started long before ‘07. To focus on that fact is to ignore all the counterfactual evidence that shows that you are making up a partisan story to score points, but it also would cause you to fail any economics exam testing your knowledge of the crisis. Disagree? Then explain to me why the overleverage (35 to 1) that undid Bear and Lehman existed long before ‘07. Explain why current default rates on non-Freddie/Fannie loans is running double the rate of those GSEs. Explain those facts, which suggest that the problems behind the crisis ran far deeper than Frank, and then I’ll listen. Until then, I’ll assume you are wrong. And if you ignore my post, I’ll take your silence as tacit concession that you are wrong.

ABC, I’m not rebutting you nor even entering into a debate with you on any issue other than your obvious self fixation and need to frame and control (at least in your own mind) the debate you may or may not be having with others. I find it fascinating that it takes you 200 words where others can express in thier thoughts in 50 or less, Classic progressive phobia.
You might say that I am studying you. Nothing more, nothing less. As to the subject of this thread……jet lag. Even the Leader of the Free World is subject to the simplest anomalies of fatigue. Wouldn’t you agree? I’ll take your voluminous response as tacit approval.

Do you have to be a citizen to be president there? Will they take him for a small fee?

this is why president’s shouldnt make jokes that can be taken as we are seeing it taken. I don’t think he meant it seriously. Hell, he might’ve been drunk when he said it, but i don’t think he meant anything by it. The man is as bad as biden when he doesn’t have his teleprompter

I guess we’ve all made inappropriate comments or told an “off color” joke or two in our lifetimes. But, we aren’t the POTUS. Knowing full well the friction between Hugo Chavez and conservative America such comments or jokes are too undignified and controversial for the POTUS to casually make to the press corps. Fifteen foreign trips by the POTUS after just 22 months in office seems a little out of balance since our domestic problems like unimployment aren’t being resolved. Between Obama‘s weeks out of the Oval offiuce campaigning for democrats in the last election and all the foreign trips it’s no wonder Obama hasn’t “fixed” what’s broken in America. He needs to stick to his number one priority, the American people.

Obama could really help to change the attitude of old Hugo, my friend Dan Foster leads the green awareness coalition in Elkhart and has sent countless letters and faxes to Hugo to try to get him to stop cutting down trees and killing innocent people. Mr. Obama has the ability to stop him from doing these things just by saying “stop” he has those powers, he has used them before like at the G20 Summit. He ruled over those people like they were his own personnal lap dogs.

Yet another example he is losing it. He is folding under pressure from Soros bacause the plot to Socalize the US is unraveling. The people woke up too soon. We will see even more weird behavior from Obama as Soros puts on more pressure for the persuit of the destruction of the US. I don’t think Soros will let Obama finish his term for his failure to deliver America into his evil hands.

OBAMA’S ECONOMIC VIEW IS REJECTED ON WORLD STAGE
President Obama’s hopes of emerging from his Asia trip with the twin victories of a free trade agreement with South Korea and a unified approach to spurring global economic growth ran into resistance on all fronts yesterday, putting Obama at odds with his key allies and largest trading partners. …
…there was no way to avoid discussion of the fundamental differences of economic strategy. … [M]ajor disputes broke out between Washington and China, Britain, Germany, and Brazil.
Each rejected core elements of Obama’s strategy of stimulating growth before focusing on deficit reduction. Several major nations continued to accuse the Federal Reserve of deliberately devaluing the dollar last week in an effort to put the costs of America’s competitive troubles on trading partners, rather than taking politically tough measures to rein in spending at home.
The result was that Obama repeatedly found himself on the defensive.
…Chinese officials…archly reminded the Americans that as the issuers of the dollar, the main global reserve currency, they should consider the interests of the “global economy’’ and their own “national circumstances.’’
The disputes were not limited to America’s foreign partners. Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner got into a trans-Pacific argument with one of his former mentors, Alan Greenspan, the former chairman of the Federal Reserve, after Greenspan wrote that the United States was “pursuing a policy of currency weakening.’’ Geithner shot back on CNBC that while he had “enormous respect’’ for Greenspan, “that’s not an accurate description of either the Fed’s policies or our policies.’’
Much of the rest of the world seemed to share Greenspan’s assessment. Moreover, Obama seemed to be losing the broader debate over austerity. The president has insisted that at a moment of weak private demand, the best way to spur economic growth is to have the government prime the pump with cheap credit and government stimulus programs. He quickly found himself in an argument with Prime Minister David Cameron of Britain and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany.
“You do hear the argument made sometimes: If you have a deficit, put off the action to deal with it because taking money out of the economy will reduce your growth rate,’’ Cameron said at the meeting. “I simply don’t accept that.’’
Merkel, in a more traditional German view reflective of her country’s history of hyperinflation before World War II, was equally adamant.
“I am not one, and Germany is not one, who says growth and fiscal consolidation are contradictory… They can go together, and it is essential to return to a sustainable growth path.’’ She also suggested that it was the job of deficit countries — like the United States and Britain, although she diplomatically avoided citing them — to increase their competitiveness rather than put limits on countries that had figured out how to get the world to buy their goods. I want to thank The Boston Globe for reporting the facts: China, Germany, GB and Brazil agree with 47% of Americans, who believe Obama economics is a disaster. Too bad the commie Traitor didn’t take ABC with him. Not that the outcome of the G-20 summit would have been different, but having a like-minded Marxist with him on the plane might have mitigated his urge to visit Chavez.

well at least a im not lying to myself , believing that obamas doing a good job, or do you have a comeback to tell me why his approval rating polls are tanking? he will be ONE and DONE. his “taking advantage of a crisis” will be over. i have a question though….do you think that its a good idea by not letting businesses know what they’re going to be taxed in a month and a half. does that create confidence? i keep hearing the that # go up first it was 250k then those “dirty millionaires” now its “billionaires”. are you employed by a poor person? is anyone that is reading this employed by a poor person? democrats will spend approximately 800 billion to 1 trillion dollars to “stimulate” but they wont let people know what their taxes are going to be … im not sure bitching about people “sitting ” on their money makes much sense when your policies are the reason people are unsure what their financial outlook is. no excuse either they could have had this voted on 6 months ago , instead they are helping fuel the problem by not doing the responsible thing which is at least vote on it. we are going to get amnesty voted on? but not tax rate extensions? the same week the fed dumps 600 billion into the system obama is telling the chinese to stop doing the same exact thing? no wonder he was laughed out of asia. i agree with cbs news for once, it was a “embarrasing dissapointment”. but you are first to defend him to the naysayers on this blog? I try to give him the benefit of the doubt but i really dont see how he is in it for the american people. at every turn he has sided with big labor and special interest. he rails against tax breaks for the wealthy and big corporations and those are the ones he supposedly needs to put people to work. it doesnt make any sense at all. GM could have been free of the union chains that have made them uncompetitive, instead the U.A.W. is part owner? and the government is dictating what kinds of cars they can make instead of the free market? how is europe doing with socialized medicine? how is spain doing with green jobs? losing two for every green job created…one step forward two steps back “typical Liberal definition of success. this country didnt get to be leader in almost every category by emulating europe or socialism. it became that way because we have the freedom to go out and do anything we set our mind to. free markets/ free enterprise. entitlement programs do not inspire or promote people to capitalize on all this country has to offer. and i think your assertion that the free market couldnt do anything the government is doing better is sad.

Let me be clear, all those military aircraft you paid for, they’re mine now, including Air Force One. As your Usurper and Kenyan in Chief, I go where I want, when I want and do what I please, at least until January… damn Tea Party. Chavez has got it right man! Constitution? Constitution? We don‘t need no stinkin’ Constitution. Communism is cool, the dreams of my father will be fulfilled one way or another! If my progressive socialist democratic agenda can’t be sufficiently maintained by media to retain a majority of mindless voters inflicted with victim mentality, then maybe some Venezuelan style totalitarianism is needed. Hell, it‘s the only way I’m going to stay in office. I just wish I hadn’t tipped my hand so early. Oh well, all your base are belong to us. Make no mistake, resistance is futile… you will be assimilated.
