Obama Mocks Perry: A Governor Whose State Is on Fire...Denying Climate Change

WOODSIDE, Calif. (AP) — President Barack Obama is swiping at Texas Gov. Rick Perry, criticizing him as “a governor whose state is on fire, denying climate change.”

Obama also poked at the audience reactions at recent GOP presidential debates, singling out those who cheered at the prospect of someone dying because he didn’t have health insurance — and those who booed a gay service member.

The president said “that’s not reflective of who we are.”

He made the comments Sunday at a fundraiser at the Silicon Valley home of John Thompson, chairman of Symantec Corp.

Gretawire quotes at length from the pool report by Carol Lee of The Wall Street Journal:

Mr. Obama said it’s not enough for the supporters in the audience to support him. He said if their friends and neighbors are reading the Wall Street Journal editorial page or watching Fox News the donors at this event need to talk to “push back” on their “inadequate information.”

“And in some cases I may need you to have some arguments with our progressive friends,” Mr. Obama said.

He said over the last 2.5 years even though he’s gotten a lot done a lot of Democrats “get dispirited.” He brought up the complaint about health care reform without a public option – “c’mon!” he said. He said he hasn’t got everything done on the environmental front because of the economy.

The pool report also has a description of the setting for the fundraiser.  Read it here.

The pool report also notes:

POTUS also quoted “my friend Joe Biden,” who likes to say, “Don’t compare me to the almighty, compare me to the alternative.”

He’s entitled to use the office & resources of the POTUS to raise campaign funds as long as he reimburses the cost (though they are not really fair equivalents) but he has the right as did Bush, Clinton, Regan, etc.

Did anyone else notice in the fist minute or so of that video that there was a US Air Force member enthusiastically jumping up & down as part of Obama’s reception. US Military members are explicitly prohibited by the Uniformed Code of Military Justice from backing any politically partisan candidate, movement of party. Court-martial this traitor. I maintained my demeanor & retrained myself during my 24 years of service – I demand no less from others.

Go to any major installation, and visit the PX. There you will find all manner of statues of Obama, T-Shirts, and Prints…. all celebrating our socialist President. I came in back in 87, never had this stuff for Reagan, Bush, or W.

    Statement from our Dear President.

“We’re just starting off here, we’ve got 14 months,” Obama said about his first term in office, urging supporters to help spread the message that it’s not a failure he’s only gotten 80 percent of what he wants done so far.

“That’s a success,” Obama said, adding that it should be an inspiration to get the other 20 percent of his agenda done. He was speaking at a brunch at the home of a former Microsoft executive closed to television cameras that raked in $35,800 per couple.

I love how you guys think he’s a Communist or Socialist or Marxist. It’s hilarious.

Obama is a centrist….and actually by any measure should be called a moderate Republican. Most of his policies are those proposed by Republicans just a few short years ago.

If he was a Communist, do you think Big Money would support him the way they do? I’m talking big Wall St. money, the kind that likes profits. Lots and lots and lots of profits.

Having you guys on the far right actually using language like that (and believing it? really?) is most amusing to the Wall St. boys and corporate supporters of both parties.

Yes, little Johnny, we are the ones who have figured it out. Lots of his proposals have been sighted by Republicans in the past, and now. Why would you think that changes what he is, or what those Republicans are? It’s not a D or R issue anymore. The people who have figured it out is called the Tea Party. You can be conservative or liberal and still be Marxist. Do your homework little boy, and for “GODS” sake, drink a little TEA. If it’s good, offer some to your friends. We are here to protect this country from the people in Washington so you and I can continue to voice our opinion without retribution. Your Holiness “OBAMA” already wants to silence the ones who disagree with him. Would you like for him to have that power? Because I’m sure the next “conservative” who gets in office would enjoy some of that power to silence you. Now throw away your LEVIS, buy some Wranglers and lets get this country going again…….. According to KVUE-TV, the state of Texas, under Gov. Rick Perry, cut state funding for the volunteer fire departments that protect most of the state from wildfires. Firefighters have actually been dipping into their own pockets to fight fires.

Volunteer departments that were already facing financial strain had their funding cut from $30 million to $7 million. There are 879 volunteer fire departments in Texas; 114 are paid fire departments, while 187 departments are a combination of volunteer and paid.

At a press conference Monday, Perry promised to seek federal disaster relief and said that FEMA would be in the state by Wednesday.

Texas has received 25 FEMA grants for fires this year

While Texas Governor Rick Perry has been whining that his state has not received enough money from the federal government for firefighting assistance, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been quietly shipping mega-bucks to his state. Here is a list of 25 FEMA Fire Management Assistance declarations and grants for the state of Texas since January 1, 2011:

These FEMA grants for the state of Texas, whose Governor has flirted with the idea of seceding from the United States, cover 75 percent of the state’s costs for firefighting. The amount of federal money given to Texas for fires this year is not yet known, since the costs are still being incurred and the state has not submitted all of their claims for financial assistance to the federal government.

These grants are for specific incidents and are different from FEMA’s Major Disaster Declarations, one of which has not been approved for the Texas fires this year. Those are not awarded as often as the Fire Management Assistance grants, but Texas has received 16 of them since 2000. In fact, Texas has benefited more than any other state from federal Major Disaster Declarations.

Wrong, the governor of Texas has nothing to do with the funding of volunteer fire departments. The state legislature and lt. governor control all of that. You really should read something other than a story put out by KVUE in Austin a bastion of liberal half truths, that is if you really care about getting the whole story which I can see by your posts you probably don’t have any intention of doing. If I sit here and tell you that Obama is the be all end all will you just go away your posts get more annoying the more of them that I read.

For natural disasters, 2011 started with much of Queensland, Australia, swamped by rain-triggered flooding. Parts of Brisbane are seen here on Jan. 13. Munich Re, a multinational that insures insurance companies, calculated that the Australia flooding left $7.3 billion in economic losses, making it the fourth costliest natural disaster in the first half of 2011. The global bill was $265 billion, Munich Re said, well above the previous record of $220 billion in 2005. (Torsten Blackwood / AFP – Getty Images) Share

Yup, that’s right…never had fires before in Texas….EVER! First time for everything! What a stunning statement! As well, the booing of the serviceman was in reaction to the question not to the brave guy in uniform. That is what I honestly believe….
