Obama, O’Reilly Square Off in Pre-Super Bowl Showdown

For the first time since taking the Oval Office, President Barack Obama sat down for a much-anticipated pre-game interview Sunday evening with cable news’ highest-rated personality, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly.

In a relatively mild exchange, O’Reilly pressed the president to comment on a variety of topics, including the situation unfolding in Egypt and health care reform. Later the in the interview, O’Reilly asked the president to reflect on his time so far in office, asking what the “worst” part of the job was and how the job has changed him personally.

“I hope you think I’m fair to you,” O’Reilly told the president, noting that he tried to be fair and balanced in his primetime commentary. But A stone-faced Obama did not hint as to whether or not he agreed:

You may recall that O’Reilly and Obama squared off once before in a much more contentious Q&A session during the final weeks of the 2008 presidential election season. This time around seemed comparatively relaxed, although O’Reilly promised to have more of his time with the president during his Monday evening broadcast of “The O’Reilly Factor” on FNC.

Was going to watch the interview, until i heard that Obama was going to give a run down of what he thinks of the teams playing in today’s Super Bowl. I heard that, and thought, nope not worth my time. How typical of Obama AND O’Reilly~!

I am in no way near being an analyst. But every time I hear mr.obama answer questions it goes like this
question, Answer: Now listen (TO ME).
the next question: answer now hear (ME).
the next question: Answer: As I (ME) told you before etc
the next question: Answer: People still want health care(OBAMA CARE).
And at the end of each sentence he lowers his tone as if to say: That’s it everybody else can stick it.

Grandpa might as well have asked Obama what his favorite foods, and misic were…..It a sad day but I‘ve watched O’Rielly over the years and he has slowly been move far from a moderate conservative stance to a leftist conservative stance. Remember, Bill is just looking out for us “folks” by asking powder puff questions. I suspect however that as others have stated, that they had to have the subject matter of the questions approved ahead of time. I also wonder if Fox Sports had anything to do with it…not wanting to anger too many Obama supporters before the game and keep it “civilized” so to speak. I‘m really trying to give O’Reilly the benefit of the doubt. Whatever the reason, it was surely lame.

Obama, but I also know that BHO wiuld never allow himself to be interviewed by Glenn for fear that he would expose his agenda of Marxism for everyone! BHO is poising himself for his next new job. Ruler of the World. BHO has no more been elected to any of his positions before he was running a campaign for his next higher office all the while voting present,so he didn’t give any hints to his agenda.

I agree, the Fox News of old is gone, replaced with the new, “controlled opposition” Fox News. Obama needs the illusion of opposition in the MSM, and Fox News and their talking heads provide it.

Real qiestions about, “Who is Obama”, and about his obvious ineligibility are totally off-limits…why? Fox News is a lot like MSNBC, a sort of stealth MSNBC, in that they too are helping the Obama regime and not asking tough questions, but you are not suppose to realize it.

As for the non stop plugging of books, concerts, premium memberships to the extent that if I don’t buy them, I’m some how not a patriotic as they are, it really gets under my skin. We all know that sponsors pay them all to hock the water softeners, the sleep comfort beds, identity theft protection, Gold etc and that they would not talk about them at all if they were not paid to. I thought the interview was well done and so disagree with you walk although you did not say specifically why. My reasons are as follows
      1) Anyone who has listened to barry speak knows that answers are DANCED AROUND to which he attempted to do again. That is rude, he‘s not campaigning he’s there to answer questions. IE “you don’t want to see the muslim brotherhood get in do you?” Simple yes or no…..AND YOU HEARD NEITHER.
      2) barry loves to bloviate…Bill kept it to a minimum otherwise the 2nd question never would have been asked or answered.
      3) As a citizen of this country I expect tough questions but I do understand the time constraints and so appreciated multiple subjects touched on instead of debating points back and forth. It eats precious time.
      4) Bill even gave him some human interest questions…
I‘d say it was pretty well rounded considering that barry’s agenda would be to not answer Bill’s questions in the first place. Remember what WH position is on FOX news.

Although I think O’Reily was rather flaccid in the questions I give him credit for not letting Obama stall on his answers. O’Reily kept the interview moving, you might call it rude (quite frankly I don‘t care because you wouldn’t give such grief to someone from MSNBC or the like for doing the same thing to a conservative so bugger off) but the reality it is good journalism. And even if he did get to ask him some more serious questions they’re not going to be shown until his show tonight.

LOL, indeed! My hope is the rest of the interview isn’t so kissy kissy. I want some hardball questions:

      1. Show us your college and BC papers, why do you pay millions to keep them sealed?
      2. Why did you feel in necessary to burden WS with more regulation on banks, etc, with the Financial Bill?
      3. Why did you sign the Food Safety Bill?
      4. You raised the sin taxes, did you not?
      5. Why did you surge in Afganistan, but declare they are leaving at the same time? How is that not a mixed message?
      6. Why did you travel around the world and apologize for America? Are we not the worlds biggest contributor of Foriegn Aid? Does America not show up at every disaster with food, water and emergency stuff?
      7. Why have you sat on your hands about San J, Cal, and the smelt fish? Do you realize some of the most productive land in America sitting is idle? How many jobs is that costing? Do you think it is adding to food cost inflation now?
      8. What do you feel is the real unemployment rate in America, not the U1 figures?
      9. Do you plan on ‘investing’ [sic] in public works, like FDR did? Do you think that is efficient use of federal funds?
      10. Why do you and/or congress want an ‘internet kill’ switch?
      11. What will you do with two Ocare suits, fast track them to the SC, saving the country millions, or let them slow track through the AC, costing millions in litigation, only to end up in the SC? Would it not seem prudent to get this decided fast, as possible, it is a very straight forward question. The costs of implementation are enormous?

I believe he would not answer ONE of those questions, honestly, or evade altogether.

Agreed. Let’s concentrate on the response to the courts overturning Obama care. Mr. Obama says that he does not want to really fight the battle of the last two years where they showed Obama care down our throats. Obama says that if you get sick there is no reason for you to go bankrupt. Why don’t we just address that issue. If someone gets sick without health insurance he should not be allowed to go bankrupt because he has done a socially unacceptable thing, and the government is the enabler that allows him to do that. Obama says the people say “don’t make me pay for my neighbors health insurance”. Agreed again. A truly fair way to encourage people to be personally responsible is to say that if you do not have health insurance those bills will not be included in any bankruptcy, they will follow you to your death bed. At which time, if you have any money in your estate, the bills will be paid out of the estate. If people know that their medical bills will never be forgiven if they do not have insurance, perhaps they will do the responsible thing. It remains their choice.

Agreed this was a big disappointment. Bill O said he wouldnt know what to ask until an hour before show b/c of how fluid the news is. He ends up asking about Egypt, healthcare, the hardest part of BHO’s job, how it feels to be disliked/hated and who will win the Superbowl! 1 question out of all those I get takes up til the last hour to think up the others are questions a HS student would ask.

Wow Bill this is the best you have after being all nice for cpl yrs to get the intv!? The Bill O of the past who thundered away on Donahue, Rivera, rep Frank etc is gone, I dont know who this guy is anymore.

Seems like this was nothing but a teaser to get ppl to watch his show b/c at the end O said watch the factor this week to see more. But this was an absolute joke of an interview, something you would expect to see from MSNBC fools or the like. You lost a lot of fans after this one Billy.

He will get beat up by others on this and he deserves, I would like to see how Beck will react. I bet whomever defends O’Reilly will say its b/c it was during day family are watching blah blah.

DEMOCRATGIRL – I appreciated your knowledgeable and academic assesment of the situation in Egypt and the Middle East. But you confused me on one point. You say that under Carter and now Obama that, ” The West’s position is not a moral one that reflects a real commitment to human rights. The West‘s position reflects the adoption of Jimmy Carter’s worldview: kowtowing to benighted, strong tyrants while abandoning moderate, weak ones.”

Reading you post, it’s almost as if your source was balanced and knowledgeable, put you tried to seamlessly put in your partisan ideas with this comment and another one further along. Two different people wrote your post DemocratGirl – you and somebody more reasonable.

The United States organized a coup against the democratically elected government of Iran in 1953 (before Carter). That’s grudge Iranians still bear. The Shah was installed, and he was an brutal dictator. The Shah was not a proponent of human right. He was a tyrant. The US, wanted a stable government in the Arab world wanted a strong ally and supported him completely, despite his abysmal human right record. The people of Iran rose up and deposed him. Maybe you’re suggesting the US should have sent the Marines in, but that’s nonsense.

And now you’re supporting Mubarick and suggesting the US do what? Send troups in to put down the protesters? Supply the army, who is trying to stay neutral, more weapons? What is it you’d have Obama do?

Do we know more about Obama after the interview? Not a bit! O‘Reilly’s interview was nothing but a slow-pitched softball of the Larry King school with a little Oprah added. I expected that O’Reilly would next ask Obama about the White House food. Here are a few questions that “the folks” really wanted asked.

Why are you kissing teacher union cheek to the detriment of millions of students who leave their public school experience as functional illiterates?

The global warming hoax threatens to impoverish the world by trillions of dollars yet you support policies and appoint people who would implement policies which scientists agree would lower the world temperature by less than one degree in a century. Why?

The recovery is anemic and the job market is stagnant. Businessmen are reluctant to hire because they fear an anti-business Obama administration is too willing to pluck them of any gains that they may realize. Are you aware that a conservative Republican Congress is your only hope for improving the business climate and job growth?

The price of energy has skyrocketed during your administration. Much of this increase is due to your policy of appeasing the greens who demand that domestic exploration and drilling be severely curtailed. Do you plan to continue these policies?

Yes Derekcrane, this would be theblazers and Tea Partier questions. And Bill would never ask them. Because he aint one of you. He is afraid of the new right movement that overtook him by far.

One day Bill must have seen that there are people entering the stage even he sees as right wing nuts. He tried, and perhaps will try a little longer, to keep you near (like Glenn) and fester on you, but he seems get it slowly: He has to move towards the center or he will be seen as oneof you right wing nuts. And since he knows that the tea party will never win anything he will move….

As a former journalist and editor, I think O’Reilly did a good job. We all would have like to see him come in there and be controversial like he is on television, but the truth of the matter is, the president would have simply stopped the interview and walked off camera. As a journalist, even when you want to ask the tough questions, you have to come in with respect for the office of a high-level executive even if you wholeheartedly disagree with the person. If you don’t treat the interview subject with respect, your interview will end, the subject will walk off, and there won’t be any future interviews either. I think he did a solid job – he asked the questions, he did let the president off the hook a little light, but he needed to preserve his opportunity to continue the interview a bit. Don’t kid yourselves – Beck would do the exact same thing – offer respect for the office, not the man in it. You can also bet there were presidential handlers standing by, ready to pull the plug on the interview should it go awry. O’Reilly has softened some over the past couple of years, and watching that has been a disappointment to me. I rarely watch him anymore because of that. But his approach to this interview was correct, journalistically speaking. It was the only way it could have been done.

More than spinning in stereo, I’d call it a love fest. It was the same old elitist Bill (“I went to Harvard”) O‘Reilly throwing softballs to make sure he doesn’t offend Obama and spoil his chances of future ratings-enhancing interviews. O‘Reilly massaged Obama’s “blame America” agenda by asking about alleged bad stuff he says Mubarak knows about the US and later pushed the idea there are those who hate him. Of course there are those in the lunatic fringe who do actually hate Obama, but like most East/West Coast elitists, O‘Reilly apparently doesn’t understand there’s a difference in “hate” and oppositing a political agenda. I’m sure Mr. Obama loved the interview and perhaps considers it his Valentine from Fox News.

      @IslandMama
Wrong! Both you and O’Reilly, especially O’Reilly, should study the Bret Baer interview. THAT is the kind of journalistic approach required when faced with a liar-’n-thief like Obama. If O’Reilly is not up to the task, then he should abstain from doing interviews with Obama. He won‘t because he’s into the straddling-the-fence game, and that makes for lousy journalism.

I‘m still not over O’Reilly’s interview in 2008, when Obama compared America to China! And O’Reilly let it pass. Why didn‘t O’Reilly bring up the fact that China pays it’s people slave labor wages!?!?!!!! Not to mention the simple fact they are a communist country… it blew my mind.

This interview was pretty lame……..it reminded me of The NY Times reporter asking Obama what was he found most enchanting about the job.

The questioning was very weak, and not even Obama is dumb enough to fall into one of O‘Reilly’s thinly disguised traps.

And I’m a person that likes Bill O and watches the Factor every night.

Bill O…even if you don’t like the man. Respect the position. Letting someone finish the answer to the question YOU asked is being respectful. When did journalist stop reporting the news and start becoming THE news? Obama handled himself much better than a lot of us ever could when talking to someone like Bill. I would have decked him or walked away. He’s the POTUS for crying out loud! “Everyone hates you…” Really Bill?

Well Bill O, I am through with you and your show. You have become soft in your old age and for quite a while have not spoken for me. You had a chance to ask the hard questions and decided not to. You let down millions of Americans and at the same time freed up a whole hour at 8pm for me M-F.

Ocare was wealth redistribution, and one cannot raise taxes in a recession, he sues AZ instead of protecting them at the border. He put ideologues in the WH, and apologizes for our greatness. but hey, I do like the guy on a personal level…just hate the policy!

I rarely, if ever, watch O’Reilly. He is one of those MODERATE conservatives, and I imagine that he wasn’t given free reign to ask ANYTHING he wanted of this pathetic little man. I WILL JUST BET YOU THAT OBAMA WOULD BE PETRIFIED TO APPEAR ON BECK because Beck is NO MODERATE. HE IS STAUNCH CONSERVATIVE and he is NOT afraid of this pathetic little man (I have NO RESPECT for anyone who ignores our U.S. Constitution). Obama is afraid of God (no matter what LIE he says about his praying – WHO IS HE REALLY PRAYING TO?) and Beck represents God’s views, ACCORDING TO THE HOLY BIBLE. O‘Reilly is all about his tv ’numbers’. Beck is all about getting the truth out ignoring his own will. If I want ENTERTAINMENT, I would watch O’Reilly. If I want enlightenment and truth, I watch Beck and the rest of FoxNews.

Stop and think about this: the devil, USING THE LIBERAL LEFT, will try to stop Beck as they have, by smearing him, threatening him, and tearing his words apart, but they haven‘t tried to stop O’Reilly or hardly anyone else. WHY? And, what does that tell you?

There are only 2 FORCES IN THIS WORLD. ONLY 2: Evil and Good. Stop and examine the MESSENGER and their message. WHO DOES THE MESSENGER REPRESENT AND DOES THAT MESSENGER TALK ABOUT JESUS CHRIST AS BEING THE ANSWER TO MAN’S PROBLEMS? iF THEY DO NOT, THEN BEWARE OF THEM. The devil is a liar, a deceiver, and he will do whatever he can to confuse you. As Beck always says, DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK AND SEE IF IT LINES UP WITH WHAT THE MESSENGER SAYS. With Obama, it seldom does. With Beck, it always does. With O’Reilly, he is flippant and and satirical and seldom takes a stand on anything. There’s the entertainment factor. I will watch Beck over O’Reilly ANY DAY.

O’Reilly did as well as he could considering the list of things he could not bring up. He let Obama spin way too long on each answer (almost giving the appearance he knew what he was talking about) but I could see through the spin. The man is not gonna give O’Reilly one inch of satisfaction. Can’t wait for the Factor Zone tonight to hear what Bill thought of the interview. Watch out for Satan spinning the truth out of context between now and election in 2012

Softball interview. Sounded like Hannity interviewing Palin. Here are a few questions he should have asked:
      - Why do you hate this country and want to destroy it?
      - Will you promise here and now not to set up FEMA camps for conservatives?
      - How can you call yourself and American while supporting a caliphate which puts the US under the despotic control of radical Muslims?
      - Why do you want to kill Americans with health care?
      - Why don’t you understand that helping the poor is anti-Christian and that policies that support billionaires is the will of Christ?
      - Are you in fact the anti-Christ?

Between this interview and his Oath Keepers interview I see no need and I have no desire to watch or listen to O’reilly anymore.
