WASHINGTON (AP) — It’s official: President Barack Obama has pardoned the National Thanksgiving Turkey.
Continuing a decades-old White House tradition, Obama issued pardons Wednesday to a gobbler named “Apple” and its alternate, “Cider.’ The two 21-week-old, 45-pound turkeys were raised on a California farm.
Obama said it “feels pretty good to stop at least one shellacking this November.”
The president wished America’s families, including many buffeted by the economic slump, a safe and happy holiday.
After the Rose Garden ceremony, the turkeys were to be taken to George Washington’s estate at nearby Mount Vernon, Va., to live. For the past five years, the pardoned turkeys had been sent to Disneyland in California.

Posted on November 24, 2010 at 2:31pmYou know, even when when this guy does do some presidential tradition, he still looks like a dope.
Why doesn’t he do something really presidential and pardon American taxpayers for whatever we did to tick him off?
Must of been hard for him to pardon a white turkey.

Posted on November 24, 2010 at 1:45pmOn a positive note, at least he had to stay at the White House to do the pardoning instead of travelling more and spending millions more on transportation and protection. It’s nice that he visits the White House once in awhile.

Posted on November 24, 2010 at 12:58pmI’ve always despised this “tradition”, no matter the president. Some think its homey and cute, me I think it’s emasculating and effeminate.
Make me President folks and I promise you, I’ll behead that gobbler with a hatchet and wood block on national television and have a nice photo shoot of my family eating the birds in full savory golden brown glory. If there‘s any left over we’ll donate it to the bums, vagrants, drifters and other people we now call “homeless”.
You don’t celebrate and give thanks for things that you reject outright. Just a pet peeve of mine.

Actually, I am. I just don’t believe in turning your nose up at that for which you give thanks. We have dominion over the animals of the earth, and when we give thanks for plenty we give thanks for the animals and other food we’re about to eat. When I’m thankful for something, I partake of it, I don’t reject it or “pardon” it. The turkey is an animal, not a criminal needing a pardon, and being a good American I‘m proud to give thanks for such bounty as plentiful turkeys and I’ll proudly eat one without the slightest shred of regret. If I were President I would never consider changing that policy and would eat the most succulent juicy turkey that could be found, especially if I could hunt it up myself.
As I said, this “awwww” tradition is effeminate and emasculating. It is meant to placate weak minded emotion driven people who, last check, eat turkeys on Thanksgiving but don’t have the guts to actually kill the bird themselves. Apparently to them, their turkeys roam the wild without head, feathers or feet, wrapped in a cozy plastic wrapping and mesh.

Grew up spittin’ buckshot out on the plate (when one would be missed during cleaning) from squirrel, rabbit, and pheasant at the dinner table. We gave thanks for what came to the table be it from the garden or the woods. God Bless you and our freedom.

Posted on November 24, 2010 at 6:07pmYou must be a PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals) member. I think us meat eaters need to remember where meat comes from and stick up for 2nd Amendment rights.
But I think this is all about Obama having something to put on the plus side when he runs for re-election – he doesn’t have much else.
