October Surprise?

(AP) — October Surprise?

Obama spoke in the Rose Garden after the August jobs report came out better than expected, showing the private sector adding 67,000 new jobs last month and revising upward the numbers from June and July. But unemployment ticked upward to 9.6 percent as more people entered the job market, and the president said it wasn’t good enough.

“That’s why we need to take further steps to create jobs and keep the economy growing, including extending tax cuts for the middle class and investing in the areas of our economy where the potential for job growth is greatest,” Obama said.

“We are confident that we are moving in the right direction, but we want to keep this recovery moving stronger and accelerate the job growth that’s needed so desperately.”

Administration officials say a big new stimulus bill like last year’s $862 billion measure is not in the offing — nervous lawmakers looking to November’s balloting would not be expected to approve an expensive new measure. But Obama said he’d be proposing a new set of ideas next week. He’s likely to detail them during a speech on the economy Wednesday in Cleveland, midway through an economy-focused week capped by a rare White House news conference.

Obama’s package could include a number of provisions that have languished in Congress for much of the year, including infrastructure bonds for municipalities and extensions for a series of tax breaks for businesses and individuals that expired at the end of 2009. Democratic leaders are considering making one of the tax breaks permanent, for businesses that invest in research and development.

They are also considering extending a law passed in March that exempts companies that hire unemployed workers from paying Social Security taxes on those workers through December. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., has proposed extending the exemption an additional six months.

Obama is continuing to prod the Senate to pass a bill that calls for about $12 billion in tax breaks for small businesses and a $30 billion fund to help unfreeze small business lending. Republicans have likened the bill to the unpopular bailout of the financial industry. And the president wants to make permanent the portion of George W. Bush’s tax cuts affecting the middle class.

The House has already passed many of the provisions, but they have stalled in the Senate because Republicans and Democrats could not agree on how to pay for them.

Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Reid hoped to be able to get the small business measure through once the Senate goes back in session later this month but the prospect for other ideas was cloudier. Moreover, some of the ideas are relatively small bore, so even if they did pass in the next month or two it‘s unlikely they’d make a real dent in the economy before the elections.

Departing White House economist Christina Romer told The Associated Press that the new proposals would be “targeted measures aimed at particular problems or incentivizing a particular area of the economy.” Romer is leaving her post as chair of the president’s Council of Economic Advisers on Friday to return to the University of California, Berkley.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong (I usually am) but isn‘t Obama’s “tax-cuts” a rebate program where you have to ask for some of your money back, it isn’t an actual cut, where they tax you less, they just hold it until you ask for some of it back.

      Who inherited what?

I send this along in case you missed seeing it when it came around awhile back . . . . . .

The Washington Post babbled again today about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush. Amazingly enough,…… a lot of people swallow this nonsense. So once more, a short civics lesson.

Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress, and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party. They controlled the budget process for FY 2008 and FY 2009, as well as FY
2010 and FY 2011. In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.

For FY 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the FY 2009 budgets..

And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete FY 2009. Let’s remember what the deficits looked like during that period: (below)

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.

In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January
      20th.

There is no way this will be widely publicized, Unless each of us sends it on! This is your chance to make a difference.

I find it troubling that Obama‘s economic plan is resembling FDR’s. The idea of Roosevelt‘s plan on National Regimentation was described in Herbert Hoover’s book The Challenge To Liberty. Many of these strategies were also Wilson’s. The idea was to achieve National Regimentation through expanding the powers of the Executive Branch. “without tedious recitation of the acts of the Congress delegating powers over the people to the Executive or his assistants, and omitting relief and regulatory acts”…

Through this the “powers which have been assumed include, directly or indirectly, the following:”

“To debase the coin and it’s set value; to inflate the currency; to buy and sell gold and silver; to buy Government bonds; other securities; and foreign exchange; to seize private stocks of gold at a price fixed by the Government; in effect giving to the Executive the power to “manage” the currency”

“To expend enormous sums from the appropriations for public works, relief, and agriculture upon projects no announced to the Congress at the time appropriations were made”

“To organize administrative agencies outside the Civil Service requirements”

    Only to name a few!

Well, Obama’s had about twenty months. He gave the drug companies a sweetheart deal. the banks – well they’re just tickled pink – wouldn’t you be …a trillion dollars. (and so much for their promise to let some trickle down to small business) AND now the polls are telling him those hard working unemployed Americans who just want jobs and aren’t very happy, are going to the voting booth in November to make their point. So now he’s making those “we need jobs” noises. (of course by ramping up the debt)
Palin, and maybe Huckabee are looking better every single day.

I agree. Although… there is a way that the genius of America can in fact pay back 15 trillion or more- of course the Obama administration defunded 3 of the programs that could do just that.
The Bush Admin funded a bio-fuel project in the San Juaquin valley in Ca- which creates bio-fuel that can be converted to jet fuel- see normal biofuel cannot be made into jet fuel this can- that is a quantum leap- if this was fully funded it could convert the 300 tons+ of bio-material from that valley- which usually goes to dumps or to be burned into fuel. Second was the wind farm that was being built by T Boone Pickens- it would be the equivolent of 2.5 nuclear plants- think we could use that. The Obama Admin defunded connecting that farm to the grid- so the farm could produce energy for- no one- that makes sense right? The 3rd is Nasa one of the few govt programs that worked. This is not a mission that they are currently undertaking but is very doable. The shuttle can transport tons of material back from space- there are asteroids in high earth orbit- that are loaded with valuable minerals gold platinium ect. So if they started retrieving these since they are already up there they could finance the next mission and start paying down the debt. The setimate is a 1/4 mile chunk is worth 1.5 trillion or more- in metal resources- so break em down and bring em down.

Obama forever! This idea scares the …… out of me. The scenario. There is a reason Obama doesn’t care what the citizens think. He plans to take over the country. Black Panthers et al cause violent disruptions at the polls. Regrettably, Obama will have to throw out the election results because they may have been tainted. He will then have to declare martial law, for the good of the people. He will then suspend congress just as Hitler did in Germany and put controls on the media as FDR did. Anti-government (Anti-Obama) people will be rounded up and taken to quickly set up “re-education” camps in the empty badlands, hate mongering people like Palin, Beck, and all the non-ultra liberal judges. Fox News will be shut down as “unfixable”. The removed justices will have to replaced by “correct thinking” judges. Now what Obama does could be taken to court and the court fix would be in, just as Hitler did in Germany. By default, Obama would just have to continue to be our leader like Chavez and Castro. BTW guns will be immediately confiscated just as was done by Hitler. Just go to the registered gun lists. The ONLY stop is for gun owners to “sell” their guns to someone else who does not register them. I sure hope this is wrong.
