Obama Pushes New Energy Standards for Vehicles … Except His Own

In his weekly address, President Obama addresses energy security (transcript), both trying to show that his administration has been friendly to the idea of drilling at home and pushing the idea that alternative energy solutions are still needed. A cornerstone of his energy policy relies on more energy-efficient vehicles:
This week, I released a Blueprint for a Secure Energy Future. It’s a strategy to reduce the oil we import from around the world, and to make our economy stronger at home. Part of this strategy involves increasing our oil exploration right here in America. In fact, our oil production last year reached its highest level since 2003, and we want to encourage more safe, responsible drilling where we can.
But the truth is, drilling alone is not a real strategy to replace our dependence on foreign oil. And that’s because even though America uses 25 percent of the world’s oil, we currently have only about 2 percent of the world’s oil reserves. Even if we used every last drop of all the oil we have, it wouldn’t be enough to meet our long-term energy needs. So, real energy security can only come if we find ways to use less oil – if we invest in cleaner fuels and greater efficiency.
That’s what we’ve been doing since I took office. For example, we secured an agreement from all the major auto companies to raise the fuel efficiency of their cars and trucks. So if you buy a new car, the better gas mileage is going to save you about $3,000. Altogether, this will save us about 1.8 billion barrels of oil as a country.
We need to build on this progress. As we make our cars and trucks more efficient, we’ve got to harness new technologies to fuel our vehicles with everything from biofuels to natural gas to advanced batteries. And the good news is, these technologies aren’t science fiction anymore. They exist today. Already, American car companies are producing electric vehicles that use little or no gas. And innovators across America are testing new products that hold incredible promise not just for new vehicles, but for countless new jobs.
But as The Detroit News reports:
The U.S. Secret Service said today that some federal vehicles for law enforcement and security purposes will be exempt from President Barack Obama’s directive that all federal vehicles purchased starting 2015 be advanced technology models.
Secret Service spokesman Robert Novy said the directive wouldn’t apply to vehicles used for some law enforcement or security reasons by various federal agencies.
“Certain specialized vehicles including those with law enforcement and security specifications are not subject to this directive,” Novy said.
That would include the GM-built Cadillac presidential limousine and other vehicles in the motorcade. It also expected to include many law enforcement vehicles.
I’m sure we would all agree that we want our President and law enforcement officials to be safe, but it‘s just interesting to note how many laws and directives passed for the betterment of the country don’t apply to government officials that pass them…

And someone needs to explain to me how coal power is better for the environment then oil, unless these clowns haven’t thought that part through yet.
China has most of the worlds mineral reserves that are needed to make the solar panels and batteries for this new ‘clean’ energy, so we will still be dependent.

And I wonder…where do these people really live? I like all my modern conveniences. And my little car would look really strange with a windmill mounted on the trunk. The rest of the state consideres the front range to be a joke….and it is. Denver is a sanctuary city (thanks to the last three mayors, the latest one having managed to become the govenor), Boulder is mainly an eastern version of Berkley, and the city of Boulder is more properly described as “seven square miles surrounded by reality”. This is why the previous communist govenor mandated a significant percentage of local power be produced by wind and solar….most of which is being installed farrrrr away from the front range where it won’t be messing up the scenery of the mountains for the tourists, which is perceived by the front range as the ONLY industry in the state….ignoring reality again.

It’s cheaper and more profitable to use our own oil. We don‘t need thier stink’in blood oil.
After the last oil bubble and pop (artifically driven) oil prices remained steady at levels the economy could sustain. Granted thanks to the Dems in power it wasn’t much of an economy. We see prices over a hundred a barrel now thanks to the Dems in power. The economy hasn’t changed for the better(jobless recovery) it’s the higher cost of doing business (higher taxes and fees).
There is no shortage, there’s no higher demand, there’s bad policy making (can’t drill here) and a lack of confidence in the economy with Dems in power.

Posted on April 2, 2011 at 5:15pmI encourage each of you to take a road trip to Washington DC and sit outside of the Capital building on a day when the temp is above 75-80 degrees…it is disgusting how many black SUVs are sitting idle with the engine running waiting for congressional occupant to return…no way could they be expected to get inside a hot, sweltering vehicle. We were there for over an hour and not one vehicle pulled off nor cut the motor.

I hear talking heads – especially O’Reilly – slam Obama, yet always have to add the caveat the Obama is intelligent. Well, Mr. O., if Obama is intelligent by your standards, then your standards are very low.
Obama is a walking disaster and it wouldn’t be so bad if he at least made it look like he cares, but he couldn’t care less about the job he is performing as much as he cares about simply putting his time in and getting his recognition. He is a typical American progressive that is eating at the foundation of the culture like a termite. The amount of destruction left in his wake is going to be astounding. But, it is what it is.

Gas mileage improvement is easy, get rid of excess passengers (security detail), bullet-proof glass (replace with lightbulb grade material–we have a LOT of idle capacity in that department), dump the armor, go to 2-ply tires, hire Twiggy as chauffeur, park it on a hill to get rid of starter and battery, power it with Brazil-fuel (he get’s a courtesy discount?) and let the President PAY FOR HIS OWN VACATIONS!!!

As much as I make fun of Gore and know him to be another of the progressive opportunists; he also during the congress affirmation for the election of George Bush Jr in 2000, many of the junior state senators of the democrats challenged the election as is allowable in the Senate procedures, the thing is Gore followed protocols to the letter, and when the senior senator of the state (democrats) refused to confirm the challenge, Gore on the record declared the challenge overruled.
So Gore in the highest sense of irony I can enjoy, had to affirm the vote for the man who defeated him in the election of 2000.
