Obama Quips: Reagan Was a ‘Wild-Eyed, Socialist, Tax-Hiking Class Warrior’

President Obama made a startling exclamation Wednesday at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building by suggesting that his new Buffett rule — increased taxes for the highest income earners — was the same “concept” as what Ronald Reagan would have “called for.“ He also went on to jokingly call the conservative hero a ”wild-eyed socialist.”

The President made the comparison while asking Congress to approve the Buffett rule, a law that would increase taxes on millions of what he calls the “wealthiest” Americans. At the Press Conference, he was flanked by a small group of millionaires and their assistants, who were lobbying to pay their “fair share.”

“I’m not the first president to call for this idea that everyone has to do their fair share,” the president noted.  Quoting one Reagan speech, Obama insisted the 40th President would consider our tax loopholes today “crazy.”

“He thought that in America the wealthiest should pay their fair share and he said so,” Obama assured.

He then went on to call the Reagan “That wild eyed, socialist, tax-hiking, class warrior” in a sarcastic reference to some of the titles that Obama himself has accumulated.

Obama also mused that Reagan would not have been accepted in today’s Republican Party.

“That position might disqualify him from the Republican primaries these days, but what Ronald Reagan was calling for then is the same thing we’re calling for — a return to basic fairness and responsibility.”

The President ended his comparison, “If it will help convince folks in Congress to make the right choice, we could call it the Reagan rule instead of the Buffett rule.”

Seconds before his comparison to Reagan, Obama noted “Wealth in America has never just trickled down.”  An odd statement, as Reagan and his economics team were champions of trickledown economics.

You can see the entire speech via Politico:

The comparison is equally confounding when you consider President Reagan’s historic tax reform:

“Obama’s assertion that the 40th president would back his tax plan comes just days before the Senate prepares for a vote next week on the Buffett rule, which famously takes its name from billionaire investor Warren Buffett,” Politico reports.

By the way, Politico notes the “millionaires and their assistant’s” who joined Obama on stage:

Abigail Disney, President of the Daphne Foundation

Celine Justice, Assistant to Abigail Disney

Whitney Tilson, Managing Partner of T2 Partners LLC

Kelli Alires, Assistant to Whitney Tilson

Frank Jernigan, Google Retiree

Teresa Gardiner, Assistant to Frank Jernigan

Lawrence Benenson, Partner of Benenson Capital

Carmen Peterson, Assistant to Lawrence Benenson

The man who created 11 tax hikes. (But he’s no socialist) had Illegal guns shipped and Made a secret deal with Iran to hold American hostages. (But he’s no traitor) Another crook, just like Nixon.

Reagan did raise taxes numerous times because he was semi-rational unlike today’s conservatives. Reagan also produced a huge deficit. HUGE. Reagan began the slow death of the middle class by trickling UP America’s wealth and proving that “supply side” economics was what came out of the horses on Reagan’s ranch. His own David Stockman admitted it, while Bruce Bartlett, another of Reagan’s economic advisors says federal taxes are the lowest in more than 50 years and must be raised. And then there was Iran/Contra, and psychics in the White House and I could go on explaining why it was not such a great time, but I’m sure you’re not interested in facts, and I’m DOUBLY sure that while you say that Reagan inherited a mess that took 8 years to sort of solve, you began blaming Obama the day after his inauguration for the stuff he inherited from Bush….

QUESTIONMAN, You are just another one of those idiots who tosses out that race card when somebody merely disagrees with 0bama. In my opinion your response here is worthless. You set yourself up with no leg to stand on. It’s not just a matter that one president is simply speaking of another, but rather one president twisting a statement of another president in hopes of fooling the populace that even a former popular Republican president would back his plan. Having lived through those times I call BS!
Yep, Reagan having only a predominately dem congress during his 8 years of presidency relented and raised some taxes to get the congress to tie in some his other plans. I grant you that Reagan did not outwardly raise taxes on his own. Furthermore, if you watched the Reagan video above it is when he signed into law a bill that lowered taxes massively when compared to anything the dems ever did. He also managed to get a number of loop holes removed that flattened the tax rates somewhat. Clinton managed to reverse this as his first act while in office in January 1993. Remember, it was that Democrat who not only raised our taxes and to the point that the middle class was getting soaked, but he also affected the poor. And, for the first time in our history because of Clinton and his dem congress this nation started to collect taxes on monthly Social Security payments. Now, if that is not collecting taxes on the poor, I don’t know what is. Continued….

      See here.

      Ronald Reagan: An Autopsy
      http://www.lewrockwell.com/rothbard/rothbard60.html

“How did Reagan manage to pursue egregiously statist policies in the name of liberty and of ”getting government off our backs?” How was he able to follow this course of deception and mendacity? …”

“… Creative semantics is the way in which Ronnie was able to keep his pledge never to raise taxes while raising them all the time. Reagan’s handlers, as we have seen, annoyed by the stubborn old coot’s sticking to “no new taxes,” finessed the old boy by simply calling the phenomenon by a different name. If the Gipper was addled enough to fall for this trick, so did the American masses – and a large chuck of libertarians and self-proclaimed free-market economists as well! “Let’s close another loophole, Mr. President.“ ”We-e-ell, OK, then, so long as we’re not raising taxes.” (Definition of loophole: Any and all money the other guy has earned and that hasn’t been taxed away yet. Your money, of course, has been fairly earned, and shouldn’t be taxed further.)”

Buffett earns money on his investments. These are capital gains. Capital gains are taxed at a lower rate. It’s disinenguous of Obama and Buffett to sell the idea that Buffett pays less in taxes. He’s actually paid MORE at the end of the day. Obama wants to raise cap gains taxes as well. When asked about this during the campain he said “it’s not fair”. But..when Bush lowered cap gains taxes, government revenue from them went up over 100%. Why? Because lower cap gains taxes create more incentive for investment activity. More activity means more revenue. But Obama just says “it’s not fair”.

Sorry Obama, but simply just changing words doesn’t work with Conservatives. Socialism is Socialism is Socialism. Trying to link it to Reagan won’t work either. Reagan’s idea of “fairness” was not same as Obama’s idea of “fairness”. Reagan was opposed to punishing the rich with tax rate hikes.

Obama’s really scared of Romney. He realizes that Romney has to be the most “Reagan-esque” of any candidate since Reagan himself! People try to say that Romney is liberal because he was the Governor of Massachusetts, but really Massachusetts was founded as being very Conservative. Like Reagan mentioned in the video above, the Boston (Massachusetts) Tea Party was a result of over-taxation. We need to restore America and the Constitution, not “fundamentally change” it. I can’t think of a more fitting place for the next President to be from than Massachusetts.

The crucial part of the speech Reagan gave that Nobama left out was the part about everybody paying something. That is key. What Reagan advocated was that everyone paid something, everybody participated. What Obama and his ilk are advocating is taxing the rich more so that even more than the current 49% don’t have to pay any federal taxes. THAT is the difference.

They want to make it appear they tax the rich, while offering the rich huge loop holes that let them pay at rates below capital gains rate. What they really want to do is tax the middle class out of existence. Once the middle class are gone, the rich will just take from the poor what they want with no one to stop them.

Obama is a POS… that is a given. I have “hopes” that we’ll “change” the direction of this country in the right direction with a Romney Presidency. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that Romney WILL BE the nominee of the Republican Part to defeat Obama.

But what else that really irks me (and Obama really irks me), are the 3 stooges of the new libertarian movement (the Ron Paul Revolution) that has repeatedly insulted Ronald Reagan with the same nonsense… and far worse over the years… Murray Rothbard, Ron Paul and Lew Rockwell (the 3 Stooges). This new libertarian movement is just a big a stain within American politics as the “other” left in this country led by Obama.

AWhile both the lefts in this country (Obama and Paul left) will be quick to use a great phrase or quote from Reagan… they are just as quick to bash (where their true feelings lay). Ron ald Reagan was a uniter unlike Obama and Paul who are this country’s dividers. One has divided this nation, and one continues to divide the right at every opportunity.

A small excerpt from a letter Ron Paul wrote back in the day…

“I want to totally disassociate myself from the policies that have given us unprecedented deficits, massive monetary inflation, indiscriminate military spending, an irrational and unconstitutional foreign policy, zooming foreign aid, the exaltation of international banking, and the attack on our personal liberties and privacy,” Paul wrote in a letter offering advice to the Republican party: not a letter about the Obama administration — a letter about the Reagan administration.

Or if that’s not enough of a starter… you can go to a story written by Murray Rothbard about Ronald Reagan called: Ronald Reagan, Warmonger. Ron Paul eulogized at Rothbard’s funeral and with the coaxing of Rothbard and Rockwell became a Reagan hater which has become regular talking points among Ron Paul supporters… passed down from Gramps Rothbard to his ideolical son Ron Paul… and from Paul to his acolyte children.

FELLA. I truly wished one of the candidates at the Reagan Library Debate would have exposed Ron Paul for who he really is. Losing an entire generation of would be young conservatives to the rank lies and distortions of Ron Paul’s war on Conservatism and America is a shame and a waste of what could have been a great generation of Conservatives like Ronald Reagan, not neo-lib/quasi-cons like Ron Paul.

You are furious! It’s ok. You can get through this. I’m sure there are great mental health professionals in Georgia. (lol probably not)

I’m sorry you got taken for a ride by all the joke candidates. Really, I am. But you can’t blame this on Paul. How many times were you warned about them all being frauds?

Did you see Santorum is now begging Romney for help paying of his campaign debts? Thats got to really sting if you sent that clown any money.

RISE and FELLA (Ron Paul acolytes).

Ron Paul’s intellectual idol was Murray Rothbard. Rothbard was not a Conservative, he rejected Lockean “Social Contract” theory among other things with Classical Liberalism and decided, like Ron Paul stated at “Demint’s debate”, that “All Government is Evil”, and under this view he adopted Anarchism and tied it to raw free market capitalism. Anarcho-Capitalism is the term developed and what Lew Rockwell and LewRockwell.com is all about. But you already knew that right?

And because I’m having a meltdown FELLA, lol, I’ll leave you with this… because we all want to know who libertarians, Ron Paul and his acolytes love to hate…

BOOK REVIEWS: Lincoln Unmasked: What You’re Not Supposed To Know about Dishonest Abe, Crown, 224 pages, 2006 and The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War, Prima, 272 pages, 2002. Both books by Thomas J. Lorenzo, a senior faculty [member at the libertarian Ludwig von Mises Institute].

Just when you think the Libertarian Party could not stoop any lower, they take another major swing at a great American icon. Libertarians always blame America first for any evil in the world, and now their target is the man historians rank as our finest president, Abraham Lincoln. They claim Lincoln “destroyed the Founders’ vision of our Republic.” Libertarian Bruce Koerber of Cedar Rapids, Iowa calls Lincoln “an ego-driven interventionist.”

The Libertarians are promoting both of the above books. The title of an article on the “Daily Ron Paul Liberty Forum” refers to the late President as “our first dictator,” and notes Lincoln was a ruthless dictator of the most contemptible sort. A conniving and manipulative man, and a scoundrel at heart, he was nowhere near what old guard historians would have us believe. This beast ruled the country by presidential decree, exercised dictatorial powers over a free people, and proceeded to wage war without a declaration from Co

      CON’T…

…from Congress. . . Lincoln was a consummate con man, manipulator, and a State-serving miscreant.

Attacks on Lincoln are a standard part of the stump speech of Ron Paul (R-TX), the former Libertarian Party candidate for president. and a current GOP candidate in ‘12. Thomas J. DiLorenzo, the author of both books, describes the 16th President as a “corrupt and brutal tyrant who micromanaged the murder of thousands of innocent civilians.”

Have a nice day FELLA. Have to go get some ice for my meltdown, lol.

BTW Lincoln was a doucher. How else could you kill 600 thousand Americans? Lincoln sodomized the Constitution far worse than ANY other president in history. You forgot to mention that there are THOUSANDS of books circulating about Lincoln and only a HANDFUL were written by a historian and peer reviewed. The real Lincoln is one of them.

Sounds like you got the standard indoctrination/education…do your research.

Time_To_End, has educated himself on Ron Paul. Unfortunately, he’s only willing to do half the critical thinking necessary to reach a conclusion and only peruses opinion pieces on angry conservative blogs and other agenda driven periodicals. Also, it’s very clear to anyone that has read his posts on any of the other joke candidates(Santorum, Cain, Perry, Bachmann), that he’s willing to look past any of the negatives they bring to the table so long as they pay lip service to conservative principles. NOT ONCE have you ever been critical of anyone but Paul and Romney. Not once.

Time_To_End is a simpleton at best, and a pathetic man-child with an obsession at worst.

Sorry to make this so personal but really I’m hoping you return to sanity soon as this obsession can not be healthy for you or those around you. You are an angry, bitter little wierdo.

TIME_2_GET_REAL is only causing unneeded division, animosity and hate among patriotic Americans. He is a talebearer, and whisperer, with no purpose but to disrupt our quest to restore our Constitutional Republic. We cannot win in 2012 if the likes of him keep bad mouthing fellow Republicans and patriotic friends. In 2010 the TEA party won because we stood together as Americans, winning seats by supporting freedom, conservatism, and patriotism, NOT worldly organizations.

TIME_2_GET_OFF_THE_SOFA_AND_PUT_THE_REMOTE_DOWN entertains himself by sounding like a desperate fool, and who enjoys trolling conservative sites. His highly delusional infomercials supporting his wild self proclaimed factual assumptions are laughable at best. Don’t forget to give this guy a dollar before logging out folks, he does put up a good show. And don’t forget to remind this guy to take one pill a day, not four!

@RJJinGadsden If you had read all the comment pages you would have discovered that I have posted comments about the article on page four. TIME_2_FIND_A_NEW_HOBBY has been running his mouth for a while now. No matter the article, he finds a way to malign us Republicans that support Paul’s presidential candidacy. He is dishonest and only looks for strife. He cares not that I’m a fellow American, Republican and Conservative. Which makes me doubt he’s actually a conservative or genuine Christian. There’s a time when you must stand for what you believe and expose those that only mock, ridicule and spout complete and utter BS.

Hey look! Obama’s now campaigning for Romney! Isn’t that so very nice of him?!? I guess his Mommy taught him to share after all. He’s had the WH for four years, now he’s ready to give it over to someone else. Awww, how nice of him!

Pres. Obama digging up bones again. I remember a picture of Pres. Reagan at his ranch wearing his jeans (no mom jeans) & plaid shirt and a cowboy hat and on his horse & enjoying life.
I can’t wait for the debates and Pres. Obama explaining how we are all better off for these 3.5 years during his time in office and promises more of the same, if we vote for him.
I am alittle reliefed that we are getting closer to a nominee and get the show on the road. I am thawing alittle towards Romney because Pres. Obama seems to be going into la-la-land and it is getting creepy. I don’t care what amount of money (legal means) Romney has, just want him & other people wanting to serve in office to be up front with the voters. There were 2 statements that impressed me about Pres. Reagan his love for God and Country.
