Obama Relishes End to Military Ban on Gays

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is praising senators as they near passage of legislation that would overturn the military ban on openly gay troops.

Obama says that policy undermines U.S. national security and violates “the very ideals” that members of the armed services risk their lives to defend.

A final Senate vote is set for 3 p.m. Saturday after a test vote in the morning set the stage to send the measure to Obama to sign.

The president says ending the ban will mean that “thousands of patriotic Americans” won’t be forced to leave the military “despite years of exemplary performance, because they happen to be gay.”

He also says many thousands more won’t be “asked to live a lie in order to serve the country they love.”

For Obama, it’s about damaging the US military in any possible way. For if it wasn’t, he would be in support of gay marriage. Seriously, if you say he’s a Christian or even a Muslim, then how can he be in favor of either? Look at what has happened to society since they have come out of the proverbial closet. Now consider what will become of the military. If you claim to be gay will that keep you from combat and if you claim to be lesbian you can go into combat? If you’re bisexual do you get to choose whether to fight or not? What about those that go surgically half-and-half and so on? Please let 2012 be something more significant than the year 2000.

Nothing that Congress does has a very good outcome, There are always unintended results. This may open the door to more radical discrimination. In the military their are ways to combat idiotic laws such as this. Ever heard of “blanket parties” or the “ in the wall locker and out the window” methods. I‘m sure Obama wouldn’t know much having never served. The military should be the only ones making a desission like this, not dumocrats & rinos.

      @NO_Probate:

Truth is that there is now or ever was a ban on Gays serving in the military. If your willing to serve quietly and not make a spectacle of your sexuality then you could and can serve admirably. There is code in the UCMJ to deal with discipline and order in the Military and until you remove or change that code which will have to happen before you can serve openly as a gay member of the military, but why would you want that spot light on you, it might even single you out and make you like a leper in some divisions with in the military. The UCMJ will now have to deal with an openly Homosexual Officer and the issue of coercion in liaisons between Enlisted and Officers that will not change.

I‘m really at a loss for what you think Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is other than a ban on gays in the military. 10 USC § 654 b(2) provides (or rather provided!) that a military service member shall be discharged if “the member has stated that he or she is a homosexual or a bisexual.” The mere fact that you say you are a homosexual would get you kicked out of the military. Are you really trying to tell me that this is NOT a ban on gays in the military? What you are arguing is that people can circumvent this particular ban by laying low. However, that does not change the fact that the ban exists.

Some how I doubt this will change anything. Terrorists that hate us will just have one more reason to and will continue to hate us. Like we can do anything to change that short of bowing to their whim’s and dying. Gay’s will serve openly and I am willing to bet 99% of the military could care less. Just cause their open doesn’t change what type of soldiers they are. I‘ve read studies that state gay’s only make up 1% of the US population I could be wrong but with that small of a number I would think there isn’t a whole lot of gays in the military either. So those that are gay will be open about it and everything moves on.

You and I have the same fear. We are at war with an enemy that will kill homosexuals for no reason other than their sexual preference. This will put our entire military at increased risk. If you have a Senator who voted for this repeal, email them and tell them they have undermined the safety of our military during a time of War. Ask them if a person’s Lifestyle Choice is worth putting our military in more danger. If this was to be done, it would have been safer during Clinton’s term when we were not on the battlefield engaging the enemy like we are now.

Obama Relishes …. Gays. I am reading stories from several sources that place young Obama in bath houses and with gay lovers. The objects of these liaisons are all dead. What is his motive in supporting gay causes? It cannot be to win votes. He would lose more anti-gay votes than he would gain gay votes. There is something deeper here. Is he trying to pave the way for a gay President? Or has this already happened?

If this repeal is allowed, then there should be an immediate choice allowing all current service men and women to opt out of their contract because the military has been fundamentally changed and they should not be subjected to this if they object on moral grounds. They should be allowed to walk out with an honorable discharge the instant this is passed, and it shouldn’t matter if they are serving in a war zone. Immediate discharge is the only fair way. If the government doesn’t think this will be a problem then they would have no concern allowing immediate discharge on moral grounds.

The way I see it, Gay and Lesbian people are citizens just like the rest of us and should be able to serve and protect this country without being forced to hold silence on their beliefs. We do not have to agree with their choices and what they say, but this is America and they are our fellow citizens with just as much a right to a voice and a choice as you or I.

There are reasons that they are not wanted, and I have no doubt those reasons will be front and center in the near future. I have no problem with gays per say because I think it is the natural order of things. But, it is also the natural order of things that they are disgusting to most men and women of high moral standards many of which gravitate to the military because of their high moral standards.

I dont think so because they sure have no values or morals otherwise there would not be all this political bs going on so they can have preferential treatment above and beyond the normal heterosexual American. They had a right to serve but they were not allowed to expose their sexual preferences for a reason, because their choice of lifestyle is immoral, appalling, and irreprehensible however, now they have been authorized to break the moral foundations of the military and flaunt their new found freedom to openly commit sodomy and sin.. They will one day have to answer for it, as will the leaders and politicians who are supporting unGodly behaviors. May they burn in Hell.

      integrity? yeah right.

      Definition for integrity:
o – possession of firm principles: the quality of possessing and steadfastly adhering to high moral principles
o – completeness: the state of being complete or undivided

Regan/Demint- Under DADT it is still illegal to be a homosexual in the military. The premise is enlist and break the law, just don’t tell the government you are breaking the law. They try to serve their country, but their enlistment is based on a lie, and their entire term is under the threat of dismissal.

Jim: Thanks for the definition, that is my point. The core values of the AF are “Integrity, Service before Self, and Excellence in all We Do. You can’t have integrity when your enlistment is based on a lie. I know you were trying to use the definition against me, but you fell a little short in your description of how.

I understand the argument from all perspectives. These brave men and women died for our country, our liberties and freedoms. Homosexuals are included in the mix here and some of these individuals may have been that like it or not. Let’s not diminish their efforts in the face of this argument. We honor them all regardless of who they were.

The problem is that we need to acknowledge that there are gay people already serving and we have not come up with a process that allows them to serve and not be penalized for what they are. I am against the repeal of DADT and frankly, I don’t know what the answer is. I do feel these congressmen in support of the repeal and obama do not have the best interest of the nation in mind are are using this DADT as a vehicle to further deteriorate the state of our nation.

We need to get our crap together and let our heroes rest in peace. The pentagon and the military brass should have been given an opportunity to work all these issues. But as usual, we have amateurs making decisions.

Sooner or later all will have to admit, to themselves and publically, that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have failed to meet their principal goals of stopping terrorism and establishing a democratic form of government and civil rights for the citizens of these two Muslim dominated countires. Anywhere Islam is the major and official religion, democracy and civil rights are not possible. Terrorism will not be stopped as long as Islamic fanatics see it as a means to defeat all “infidels” (non-muslims) and establish the rule of Islamic Shariah Law worldwide.

God knows where this can go. At Columbia U last week, a poli-sci professor was arrested for having a three-year sexual relationship with his daughter. She’s 24, so many at the college have no problem with the incest because they’re adults and the sex was apparently consensual. I imagine this sort of deviancy will be legalized before we can get to the sheep, but the morality of this country is going down the crapper. All in the name of ‘enlightenment’, of course.

i am not wrong, as the repeal specifically states what parts of the code it repeals, and it only pertains to dadt, without even coming close to touching the original writing of the military code.

you may believe this repeal changes the code, but unless that is specifically stated in the repeal language it will not

and as i have read the code, and the repeal, and have further investigated it with a military adjunct , this repeal only removes the dadt clause, which believe it or not , was never included into the military code, and was an addendum , not an amendment. which means it will be removed without affecting any other part in the code

sorry but you are incorrect, and your research is sloppy, just like most other peoples on this matter

This is the thing about this that really, really, bothers me. There is no discrimination of gays serving in the military. The only thing that don‘t ask don’t tell means is that they can’t go bragging or advertising the fact. What’s the big deal about that policy? So why is there a big push (no pun intended) to get this through? Because it can now be in a soldiers face and they have to deal with it. I worked with a flamboyant gay guy and it was disgusting. Telling me about having sex with his gay brother (which I told him to knock it off) and always looking at my crotch which I also would tell him to stop. Now there is a whole other level of legal wrangling in the way of lawsuits in saying “I was treated unfairly because I wear lipstick” or whatever and there will be nothing to counter it even if it’s not true. It’s like gays being married. What will happen when a minister will not marry a gay couple? I‘m sure no matter what your intelligence you know it’ll be a lawsuit. This is ridiculous. Be gay all you want in your personal life but keep it out of my face (again no pun intended)

Obama appoints record number of gay officials
      By Jennifer Vanasco/editor

(Washington) Less than halfway through his first term, President Barack Obama has appointed more openly gay officials than any other president in history.

Gay activists say the estimate of more than 150 appointments so far – from agency heads and commission members to policy officials and senior staffers – surpasses the previous high of about 140 reached during two full terms under President Bill Clinton.

“From everything we hear from inside the administration, they wanted this to be part of their efforts at diversity,” said Denis Dison, spokesman for the Presidential Appointments Project of the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute.

The pace of appointments has helped to ease broader disappointment among gay rights groups that Obama has not acted more quickly on other fronts, such as ending the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that bans gays from serving openly in the military.

So does anyone know if this alter the UCMJ, specifically article 125 on Sodomy:
“(a) Any person subject to this chapter who engages in unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal is guilty of sodomy. Penetration, however slight, is sufficient
      to complete the offense.

      (b) Any person found guilty of sodomy shall by punished as a court-martial may direct.”

because this law is for straight and gays. Im curious (not in that way, curious if this articles will get changed or removed)

What would you think if you stood on the battlefield and faced a great army of homosexuals. I think I would fight to the death and all the time knowing my cause was righteous.

AND sodomy is still illegal under UCMJ. This is a can of worms. Will this force the gay marriage issue? Next up, gay marriage for every state that has a military base, Also, you can get kicked out of the military for cheating on your spouse, frat., etc……Good luck Obama, I give you the one finger salute, you better give the gays their hetero sensitivity training and kick them out when they cheat on their significant other. I f-ing hate these progressive aholes. XOXOXO

As a veteran I am horrified with this decision. I served under the don‘t ask don’t tell and you could tell whom the gay ones were but the kept it to themselves. It was a good policy.
I can see a whole lot of good troops leaving the military because of this policy. They can not protest but for one way and that is with their feet.
Then where will we be with a bunch of low ranking people running the military.

It’s ridiculous that this is even an issue, especially now with all our other problems. Who cares who people have consensual sex with? If someone is a bad soldier, kick them out. If someone is not capable of being a good soldier, don’t let them sign up. That’s all that matters.

Chris Rock does a good bit about this. Something along the lines of, “Let the gays fight. I don’t wanna fight, so let them fight.”

We have not won a war since World War II. It‘s obvious that we are not the military that we once were and I’m afraid we’ll sink even lower now that this abomination against God as been passed.
I can hear the liberals mocking me now….. but I would wager that very few of them ever served.. At least I did.

      Psychosis:

Following the US Census Bureau Report of 2000, 1.5% of Americans label themselves gay. Those people are OPENLY gay. The Family Research report say that about 2-3% of males and about 2% of women are gay or bisexual. Other sources (Like the NGLTF) name numbers as high as 10%, but considering the background of that organization this number is probably rather high. The real number is probably between 3 and 6 %, depending on how you define gay (i.e does having a single homosexual experience make you gay?).

The number you state (less than 1%) is the percentage of homosexual couples.

Many here won’t know how right you are. I must say though, its not a good feeling having to agree with what you wrote. Nothing against you the messenger, its the message. They are getting drunk and laughing at us around the world tonight celebrating another bullseye hit on America.

That’s exactly the idea. People don’t have a clue as to how big of a victory this is for the progressives. In fact, this is a much bigger victory for the progressives than the gays.

When you get a chance go here… http://www.rense.com/general32/americ.htm There you will read what’s in the Congressional Record–Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963. Then you will understand.

It has nothing to do with being gay. It is all about securing definate Dem votes for 2012. Obama would make a pact with the D ev il ifhe thought it would get more votes. One must analize every thing the dems do in terms of how many votes they can get from it.
What happens to the UCMJ now? Are the sodamy and oral Se xxxx struck down? Do they still apply. Are they superceded by the DADT change? Arte they struck down for gays only? Lots of questions but no answers.

The most dangerous ‘weapon’ in the military is the pen; example; “LT Crank is so obsessed with his open homosexuality that he is a most ineffective leader; is held in complete disdain by his subordinates, which endangers unit cohesion and combat effectiveness. LT Crank should not be promoted to the next grade.”

      His career is OVER!!!
