Obama Reminds Progressives of Obamacare, DADT and Iraq in Address to Netroots

While conservatives have many bones to pick with the president, a number of progressive activists congregating in Providence this past weekend for the Netroots Nation conference are not thrilled with all of Barack Obama’s first term in the White House either. As the conference’s keynote speaker, Van Jones said of Obama Saturday: “We like him, but we’re not in love with him.” Appearing in a video address to the conference Saturday, President Obama reminded progressives of some of the work his administration has done over the last fours years, and called for continued support moving forward.
“Four years ago we came together because we shared a simple belief that people who love their country can change it,” President Obama said to the progressive activists at Netroots. “And you have.”
From there the president went on a trip down memory lane, reminding the conference of his push to reform the nation’s healthcare system, doubling-down on clean energy, repealing Don‘t Ask Don’t Tell, ending the War in Iraq and ordering the death of Osama bin Laden.
“But we’ve got a lot more work to do, especially when it comes to getting our fellow Americans back to work,” said the president. “We’ve created 4.3 million new jobs over the past 27 months. But we‘ve got to keep at it until everyone who’s out there, pounding the pavement, gets a job that pays the bills.
“What we can’t do is go back to the policies that got us to this mess in the first place. What we won’t do is just cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires by gutting things like education and clean energy.”
The address featured a 2-minute video from WhiteHouse.gov supporting the health law by showing a Colorado family whose son requires expensive medical treatments to treat his hemophilia.
“The Affordable Care Act has improved our quality of life, knowing that we don’t have to deal with the cap anymore means we can focus on the best care and the proper care for his condition,” the boy’s father says of how the law effects the lifetime cap on coverage from insurance companies that the family faced.

Projecting our power and making the world know we mean business is what it will take to ensure our safety into the future. I am not in favor of continued wars BUT I am in no means in favor of running from the enemy nor kissing his rear end as a means of making peace. Poetic justice for an admin and a party that loves to heap scorn on Republicans for huge miss steps in foreign which they themselves have been absolved completely from blame for participating in. I highly doubt Zero has the balls to do what Bush did which was to err on the side of caution and invade. I realize Syria is a whole other kettle of fish than Iraq entirely but the threat posed by the Syrian crisis is just the same as Iraq but with this crisis the WMDs are real, the location known and the various players comprising the rebel faction have large elements of terrorists. It is by far the largest spending spree in a single term in US history. The big Lie the commicrats are now pushing is one of pure fantasy, for example the incredulous claim that this admin has kept spending growth at slow pace not seen in 60 years. Van Jones was arguing AGAINST the administration, asking what CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY Obama has to ‘execute citizens of the land without due process of the legal system.’ (His words during the broadcast).
Mind you, Van Jones is lower than the lowest snake in the grass; yet when the head progressive of all progressives turns on Obama there are two questions in the background:
Has the progressive left fully turned on Obama?
Is this a distraction to isolate Obama?
And before anyone asks, no I have no idea if Soros has abandoned Obama as a lost cause.

There are X amt of illegals in this country…so the key word is “illegal” and breaking the law..so in that line of thinking, there are X amt of bank robbers (caught) and are in prison. This admin created & saved 4.5 million jobs and over 4 million Americans are on food stamps. We have X amt of nuclear weapons (told the whole world) and downsizing that number? The Debt Clock is rolling numbers to reach a number that is way out there in “The Twilight-Zone”. I have a “feeling” we are worse off than what is being reported. Example: the good news, doctor says to patient “you may have 3 weeks to live” ..”the bad news, you should have come in to see me 3 weeks ago”. One number that is being “faithfully” reported could be true…..number of abortions performed in a year in this country.

This jerk is just using Health Care because there is room for hundreds of thousands of laws that can be imposed linking to other freedoms by saying people can or cannot do such and such. DHEW (Department of Health Education and Welfare) is one of the biggest outfits in the Federal Government and covers so many things. At one time they held a division of Energy Policy and Programs. They are connected to about everything one way or the other in the Federl Government. This outfit has the Housing and Urban Dedelopment, the Dept. of Agriculture, Forrest Service, about any and everything where laws can bog this nation down for years and can be pulled up and used on anyone at any given time on a whim. It needs to be cut back. These people are in constant junket mode or traveling mode and go across country for meetings that could be held on teleconference. They are draining this country and stopping productivity and tying up the courts.

Progressive sounds like all that you claim, however as all tyrants start out voted in, they turn evil just as your claims about what progressives have done. Reality is that if the government stayed out of free markets, there would be no need for the regulations you are so proud of. Without the gov. Monopolies cannot exist. Without monopolies, free markets would take care of the abuses you claim. But since men are evil and seek power, they can only promote what appears on the surface equality when in reality it is keeping the monopolies in power and ever expanding.

Fair wages, by who’s standards? If you cannot convince someone of a wage you think you are worth, you are probably not worth it. Govt workers are paid 2x the citizens rate. Sure, politicians will be fair.
Safe working conditions. More like not working. If you think a job is too dangerous, go get another job. Regulations just push jobs to other countries, where people would rather eat than be coddled like children. Regulation like, you cannot use Draino in a business.
Equal pay for equal work. Orwellian doublespeak. You have no right to be paid anything more than a person is willing to pay you. You really have no idea how the world works, try asking for Elle Macpherson‘s salary or LeBron James’.
The 40 hour work week, abolition of child labor. What if people want to work more or kids need to work? These are not laws or rights, they are govt interference.
Progressive taxes? Call it redistribution of wealth. It is immoral.
Greater access to healthcare and education? No, lower access by taking away competition. The quality of eduation has fallen. What is that HS drop out rate? Literacy rate? Progressive Failures.
Marriage equality? Redefining marriage.
Voting rights? For the dead?
Regulations against discrimination – racial, ethnic, religious, and sexual orientation?
– Blacks are worse off than in the 60s – nice work.
– German, Irish, Chinese, Korean, Mexicans did/doing it without you.

We had unregulated free markets in this country in the 19th century. Life expectancy went down. Working people came close to starving. And child labor DROVE wages down. The machines didn’t stop unless the chunks of the body were so large that it ground them to a halt. Why don’t you go back and read labor history, read up about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire and all the things they used to do to workers who wanted safer conditions and higher wages. And don’t bother with that watered down Christian revisionist, self-published crap Beck sends you to, and then we can have a discussion about the free markets and regulation. Read “The Predator State” by James K. Galbraith, too. Funny when those terrible Progressives came into office, the lives of working people improved and we had a vibrant Middle Class! Take a basic Economics course, while you’re at it. Unregulated free markets leads directly to monopolies, and monopoloies kill the free market.

I take you on concerning “safe working conditions”. In 1974, I got out of the Army and began working in human resources in the pulp and paper industry. I dealt with 3 fatalities in a 35 year career.
1. A railroad worker walked between uncoupled cars because he was too lazy to walk around the train. The train was coupled and he was caught between cars. He would die as soon as the cars were uncoupled. Make a long sad story short. I was present when he told his wife that it was his fault.
2. A pipefitter decided not to use lock out procedures to inspect a boiler. He opened the door changing the air pressure and the door crushed him. We knew it was negligence because a co-worker told us the worker thougth he could do it safely.
3. A laborer was assigned the task of cleaning a chip silo. He did not lock out the intake conveyor, follow confined space procedures or have a safety harrass and watcher with him. The silo was filled with chips drowning the worker.
With the exception of a one clear violation of safety rules by a supervisor, all the safety issues were worker negligence not unsafe conditions. In every case, discipline was given. In every case, the union used the grievance processes to overturn the discipline. In every case, they lost at arbitration.
Ask a union buddy if an employee should be disciplined up to and including termination of employment for knowingly violating a safety rule. They will say yes. Ask to see the gri
