Obama: Republican Voters ‘Often Agree With Me’

AP
President Barack Obama said Republican voters “often agree with” him, and that the positions he’s taken were once considered “bipartisan centrist approaches.”
In an interview with Parade magazine published online Friday, Obama asserted there’s a difference between how Republicans in Washington and actual GOP voters view him.
“Republican voters, if you ask them about my particular policy positions, often agree with me,” he said. “So there’s a difference between Republicans in Washington and Republican and Republican-leaning voters around the country.”
Obama had been asked how he would talk differently to Republicans if re-elected in November.
“I think that after this election, we’ll be in a position to once again reach out to Republicans and say that the American people have rendered a judgment, and the positions we’re taking are well within what used to be considered bipartisan centrist approaches,” Obama said.
Insisting his approach has been “pretty consistent from the start,” Obama said he’s proposed solutions that were once embraced by Republicans.
“There’s no better example than the health care bill, which was designed originally by the now Republican standard-bearer and is working pretty well in Massachusetts,” Obama said. “The Recovery Act that helped us avoid a depression, a third of it was tax cuts. My hope is that the Republican Party, post election, steps back and says, ‘Now that we’re not so worried about beating the president, maybe we should spend a little time focusing on solving the problems.’”
Obama insisted he’s not the one who has changed during his time in office, but it’s the Republican Party that has shifted.
“What’s changed is not me. What’s changed is where the Republican Party’s gone,” he said. “In fact, a lot of the things I’ve done are things that Mr. Romney, when he was governor of Massachusetts, seemed to promote. … What’s absolutely true is that we’ve had to take some emergency steps, like saving the auto industry, that weren’t free, that weren’t popular, but were the right thing to do.”

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 9:10amThis is Oblamer’s 150 pivot of his presidency. It‘s like when Axelrod and Obozo started the narrative the Reagan wouldn’t fit in with today’s Republican party. When in fact Reagan is Right of today’s Rhino Republican party.
The only Republicans that agree with Obozo‘s Obamunist’s mind numbingly Leftist Policies are those Obozo Truth Team Trolls that are paid well (100K) to wax poetic about how they were once Republican but they have seen the light and now they are going Obozo.
Look! Let me be clear, no one with anything resembling a functioning brain that voted for McCain in 2008 is now voting Obozo, but Millions upon Millions of people that voted for Obozo/BiteMe in 2008 have enlightened themselves into right thinking and are now voting Romney /Ryan 2012.
The moderates and independents have what they need…. a moderate in Romney and a conservative in Ryan.
Look, let me be clear! Obozo and Ronald Eric Holder McDonald are crafting a scheme where they win the election with CA and NY and IL and steal Florida….. all of the other states are just RED like Obozo.

Most repubs are fiscal conservatives and leave all the wacky social issues on the sidelines. If the repub party would stop letting the loonies talk it would never lose an election. A true Republican knows there’s an Oligarchy on both sides who the True Republican knows that neither side truly Represents the Republic, but Represents their own Oligarchies. I think where your argument falls a little short in saying that republicans ofen agree is that you assume there is this middle lane of logic where Obama and the repubs gather and agree but Obama is not in that middle lane and instead is quite far left. Therefore, this (Obama’s) statement is false even if you apply your assessment.

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 10:41amSaranda – you are absolutely correct. Republicans are their own worst enemy. I have spoken with many of my Republican friends over the past few years, and although I do not know if they are changing their vote, they realize that since taking office Pres. Obama has been faced with tremendously difficult issues to deal with and that a divided Congress has not made it easy for him to “fix” as many things as he would have wanted to. In fact, many of of them just shake their heads in disbelief at what Tea Partiers and other so-call Patriots rally against. Many of my Republican friends were for Tarp, were for the surplus, were for ACA because they not only knew what was at stake if these things were not implemented, but they were intelligent enough to know that it takes every American working together to make our Country great. Rarely do I hear anything of real intelligence here on the Blaze. A few have good, intelligent talking points, but they are also the ones who refrain from smearing the President, refrain from taking cheap shots at public servants who have chosen to make a career of serving this Country, and refrain from letting their hatred overwhelm an intelligent debate about our Country’s important issues.

You really must be delusional. Obama does not have a divided congress! He never has. Just because it is NOW a Republican House of Representatives, it is still a Democrat Senate, which either passes or denies ANY legislation going into the WH.
And to feel sorry for this pathetic President, a little boy who has never had a REAL JOB, is pathetic of you and your Republican friends. It just tells me YOU ARE NOT A REAL REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVE AT ALL!
It does tell me that you cannot STICK to your conservatives values and that you are swayed by every LIE this White House AND this moron President says. WHICH LIE DO YOU NOT BELIEVE? This administration is one of thugs and liars and you FEEL SORRY FOR THEM? Since when do conservatives give a socialist another chance WHEN HE HAS RUINED OUR ECONOMY?
What part of STUPID do you not understand?????????
Get some backbone or switch to the Democratic party. We really do NOT want soft Republicans on our side. And, we certainly do not want liars, inexperienced, and Rhino politicians either.
The trouble with this country and its people is that THEY HAVE GROWN VERY SOFT.
There is no backbone. There is no strength anymore – the kind of strength that pushes you to do the HARD THING, the RIGHT THING, the prudent thing.
If you are a Conservative and if your friends are Conservatives, you’d better ask yourself WHAT YOU ARE DOING WRONG and not what our party is doing wrong. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY!

This President has caused division in this country! He has tainted the oval office by hiring and appointing LESS THAN CREDIBLE, AND SOMETIMES JUST PLAIN THUGS.
Now, after everything we have heard and see in this Administration, HOW IN THE WORLD COULD YOU EVER BELIEVE A WORD HE SAYS? If you do, you are like one of those men or women who stays with their spouse after they‘ve said they’re sorry when THEY’VE BEATEN YOU UP.
You then, become a glutton for punishment and HAVE LEARNED ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN THE LAST 4 YEARS EXCEPT TO BLAME ***SOMEONE ELSE***.
Obama blames others when he should be blaming himself. The promises he has kept (very, very few), he has abused and used the American people to get it done. Take ObamaCare. Have you read it? PROBABLY NOT. I HAVE and I am sickened by what he is doing to the elderly and to those who are actually poor, when he said he wouldn’t.
I WOULD NEVER GIVE THIS MAN ANOTHER CHANCE TO SCREW THE NEXT GENERATION OVER LIKE HE DID OURS. And if you do, YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU GET AND THE REST OF US WILL JUST KEEP FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT TO CHANGE IT, ABSOLVE IT, AND DESTROY WHATEVER CRAP HE DOES.

Some of my friends are Republican, but not necessarily staunch Conservatives. They are intelligent, up on the news, and care very much about this Country. They are confident enough in their views to debate and converse wisely with me and others who don’t agree with them regarding this upcoming election and regarding Pres. Obama’s administration, something neither of you have shown that you can do. They are also intelligent enough to know that sometimes Pres. Obama and Democrats do have good ideas and that compromise is what will help this Nation – not dogmatic ideals. You won’t see me or other intelligent, respectful writers on here attacking others with CAPPED letters and insults and unintelligent ramblings. If you really have anything thoughtful and wise to say, do it in a respectful way. Then you will be heard and respected. I don’t want to read about your hatred for Pres. And you still haven‘t explained why when he is so gains’t those kinds of kickbacks to the states in the form of earmarks, why he doesn‘t so no and tell them he doesn’t want the governments money. See he is just as willing to take that check and spend it when it gets their as anyone else. Don‘t get me wrong I don’t disagree with Ron Paul that the riders and such need to stop, but the first thing we need to do is get rid of the immediate cause of the problem and then work on the secondary causes. I.E. Get people like Romney and Ryan in and let them start doing the job that needs to be done, and get Congress’ heads changed over to the people that will actually DO their job. That in and of itself will alleviate a big share of the problem alone.

It is easy to prescribe improvement for others; it is easy to organize something, to institutionalize this or that, to pass laws, multiply bureaucratic agencies, form pressure groups, start revolutions, change forms of government, tinker at political theory. The fact that these expedients have been tried unsuccessfully in every conceivable combination for 6,000 years has not noticeably impaired a credulous unintelligent willingness to keep on trying them again and again. The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.
In closing, here are only two of Thomas Jefferson’s quotes:
“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who do not.” And…
“I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in no opinion for the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it.”

Ron Paul lost the primary badly. You can’t election fraud your way to those levels of defeat. The American people do not support RP by and large and if you actually gave a crap about the constitution you would realize the power is intended to rest with the people, not politicians, even Ron Paul. When I look back at what he has said about the fundamental changes in the country, he was pretty much telling us he had every intention of making this country over into a second rate, socialist, welfair state where he can rule with the stroke of a pen rather than consent of congress. We have opened our eyes to his vision and yes, we have shifted back to the way the country was founded.

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 9:27amI have agreed with Obama once, it was at his inauguration speech. And only then it was his last few words that I felt and actual CHANCE of hope.
Before that, after that….
….nah, not really… in fact… nothing at all.
Oh those words?
“Let it be said by our children’s children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God’s grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.
Thank you. God bless you. And God bless the United States of America.”
You have no idea how bitterly disappointed I was month after month of what I learned this puppet did and was doing to this country and the foundation of it relgiously and patriotically, the sad part is, it still continues like an out of control Amtrax heading for the White House.
Republicans side with him?

We agree UBL should die but our perspective is based on serving justice and his was based on not having to figure out what to do with him (validation publicly the need for Gitmo). The hardest part of his decision was not being able to wait until closer to the election and probably broadcasting a live-feed during the DNC convention (trashing OPSEC and turning it into a daylight mission).
Doing the the right thing for the wrong reasons does not result in moral equivalency

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 9:55amI had just told someone that Obama would wait until right before elections in November 2012 before he had Osama Bin Linden killed…. Within a week, the news came on that Bin Linden was dead. I figured Obama would use him to get reelected. The we find out Valarie Jarret wanted him to wait and had in fact told him this three times. Hillary Clinton wanted him to go ahead. Obama will do or say anything to get reelected. Remember his whispered words to Putin… Wait until after the election .

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 11:02am@JUSTANGRY It seemed pretty easy to name three and BROTHER WINSTON is always posting factually correct long lists of the similarities, but what i never see are the lists of differences posted by the republican sheeple that support Romney/Ryan. If the differences are so stark it should be easy to make a list to try to convince people like me to vote for R/R instead of calling names and saying he’s not Obama. Despite several posts asking for the evidence i have yet to see one such list. I can’t imagine why.

I apologize for cutting in. But the reason you never see a list is because they, meaning both doctrinaire D‘s and R’s, only care about one difference. The letter R or D. They really don’t look any further than that.
I’m not going to use the word sheeple as you did in your post, but I certainly am not going to quibble with the accuracy of your description of them. Peace.

As far as standing by Israel even the jews don”t stand by Israel as evidenced by their overwhelming support for Obama and democrats in general, and besides we don’t help Israel we only hinder them, they would be safer left to their own devices. How many innocent Iranian people is a religous person such as yourself willing to kill by nuking Iran’s nukes. Do you place any value on innocent human lives or is it only a life it’s an american life. I won’t argue with points 5 and 6 except to say Ryan voted to bailout GM which is going to end up just like Solyndra in the end and we”ll see if Romney can bring down the unemployment rate in four years or if you will be making lame excuses why it hasn’t changed a bit. I suspect the latter but time will tell.
