Obama: RNC Like Watching ‘Black-and-White TV’ Because Romney ‘Did Not Offer a Single New Idea’

(TheBlaze/AP) — President Barack Obama lampooned the recently-completed Republican National Convention as better-suited to an era of “black-and-white TV“ and ” trickle-down, you’re on your own” economics Saturday, saying Mitt Romney “did not offer a single new idea” to fix the economy.
“There was a lot of talk about hard truths and bold choices, but no one actually told you what they were,” Obama said in Iowa, chuckling, as he set out on a three-day tour of battleground states in the run-up to his own convention. Later, Obama said, the Republican gathering was so rooted in the past, there should have been a rabbit-ears antenna on the convention hall.
Yet even the site of Obama’s convention, Charlotte, N.C., served as an unwelcome reminder to the Democrats of an economy so weak that it threatens his chances for re-election.
The president carried North Carolina in 2008, but the state’s unemployment rate is pegged at 9.6 percent, well higher than the nation’s 8.3 percent and tied with next-door South Carolina for fifth from the bottom.

President Obama said the RNC presented outdated ideas and would have been better suited to 'black and white' television. (Photo: AFP/Getty Images)
Democrats are taking their turn in the convention spotlight just days after the Republicans met in Tampa, Fla., to nominate former Massachusetts Gov. Romney for the White House and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan to be vice president.
A parade of speakers in Tampa excoriated Obama’s handling of the economy, which is struggling in the weakest recession recovery of the post-World War II era.
The economy has been the top-rated issue in opinion polls all year, and the president is eager to turn the focus onto Romney on that subject.
Republicans “will take us backwards,” Obama insisted, adding that “Gov. Romney had nothing to say about Afghanistan…or the plans for the 33,000 troops who will have come home from the war by the end of this month.”
“Let me recap it for you,” he said. “Everything is bad, it‘s Obama’s fault and Gov. Romney is the only one who knows the secret to creating jobs and growing the economy.”
Here is the full speech, via C-SPAN:
Obama, pointing to successes, declared, “I said we’d take out bin Laden and we did.”
Romney campaigned in Ohio during the day – the opening of the college football season – and proclaimed it was time the country had a winning season after years of a sluggish economy and high unemployment.
Referring to the number of jobless in the country, Romney told his own cheering crowd, “If you have a coach that’s zero and 23 million, you say it’s time to get a new coach.”
He also pledged to cut the federal deficit and “get us on track for a balanced budget.”
Polls peg Iowa as one of eight or so battlegrounds where the election is most likely to be decided. The president carried it in 2008, and in an indication of the struggle he now faces, he has been lavishing time on it in recent weeks. He spent three days in August on a bus tour that traversed the state from west to east.

Feller reported from Urbandale and Sioux City, Iowa. Associated Press writers Kasie Hunt in Cincinnati, Beth Fouhy in Charlotte and Steve Peoples in Columbus, Ohio, contributed to this report.

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 11:17pmYeah, Romney was probably too busy playing golf and basketball and flying all around the country fund raising instead of doing some work. Obama. What have you done for 4 years besides that. We didn’t elect you to campaign. That‘s all you’ve done since you took the oath of president. You have other people doing all your work while you play gold, basketball, bowl, party, party, party. Yeah I know I said it 3 times cause that’s all you do. You’re a bum.

Posted on September 2, 2012 at 10:14pmI like to point out that the ones to say that a person is racist are normally the ones who are racist. Democrats describe republicans as racist, liars, and who step on peoples toes just to get ahead when actually it is the liberals who make up story’s and lie about people to get ahead in an election. We are all guilty of stereotyping. We sound racist when we point out that most blacks are in gangs, sell pot and blacks always act as if whites still own them something. People are more interested in seeing the racism between blacks and whites rather the racism that goes on between the blacks. Blacks are always so fast to make whites out to be the racist when in truth it was the black man who sold their their own kind as slaves. It was a white republic president who freed them. Obama says we are racist. The only reason a republican can be happy that they voted for Obama is the knowledge of knowing ones and for all THEY ARE NOT RACIST. He has no right to call any Americans racist. He has a better change of people voting for him because he is black then people voting for him because he’s muslim.

Clint has and did endorse Romney for president! Fact.
Romney, if he wins, should be fired if he performs poorly. That is not “embarrassing”, it is how the system should always work. FDR would have only served 1 term by this standard. But Owebama, like FDR, is a masterful liar. Progressives prefer style over substance 24/7, mostly because that is all they really have in their arsenal. And liberal progressives are the most regressive of them all. Selling their crack on the cheap initially, then ramping it up into the realms of financial slavery.
Romney has plenty of weaknesses, but Owebama has proven he cannot lead successfully.

Its bad enough that we have to fight democrats, but it is becoming more and more clear that the republican party is doing everything possible to hold us back as well

Posted on September 2, 2012 at 5:25pm@Slaptheleft, Look, I want to clear something up with what you said. I was getting on Republicorp over the fact that he has some kind of obsession about Ron Paul and it is unhealthy. I was rooting for Ron Paul through the primary as I believe his fiscal ideas are better than anyone else and I believe his foreign policy is better in a lot of respects, not all but half. I am and have been a member of Freedom Works for a long time, so you saying I should join a Tea Party is moot. I was going to vote for the nominee, no matter who it was, however, Mitt Romney has now shown me and many at Freedom Works that he cannot be trusted. He has shown that he truly believes that government should be the say all in everything and that is not what Tea Party members are for at all. You can do what you want to do, as you say, and I will definitely do what I must do to try and save our Republic. Unless Romney comes forward and denounces what his campaign and the RNC has done in stripping our voting rights away, I will campaign for Gary Johnson, and so will a lot of Freedom Works members, end of story.

We have seen you golfing, vacationing, stealing the people’s money to reimburse your cronies for phoney green jobs, demoralizing the country, inviting radical islamists, our enemies, into the WH, using US resources to fight your ME personal wars, killing American jobs with pushing your disgraceful obamacare on the public with 22 different tax increases, pushing your filthy sexual education in our schools to promote homosexuality and sexual promiscuity, putting out exec. orders like there is no tomorrow making yourself above the law…heck, there is nothing for this traitor to brag about! Posted on September 1, 2012 at 11:04pmIf Obama controls healthcare in an aging society then he effectively control its death rate. If he controls the death rate then he can effectively control the amount of revenue collected as a result of the death tax (the federal estate tax). This is a tax that is assessed on the value of all of your assets upon your death including your house, cars, furniture, business property, machinery and inventory, stocks, bonds and real estate. This is a big part of his hidden agenda. This is the pot of gold Obama is after.
Report Post »In 2013, the exemption drops from $5 million to $1 million. Under an Obama 2nd term that exemption will fall much further and the death tax rate will climb enormously. This is how he is going to “spread the wealth around”.

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 11:41pmIs this a joke? Do you even KNOW who you’re talking about voting for? Romney made a career out of shipping jobs off to a socialist country that tortures people. And you people are acting as if he “loves america” or some nonsense. If you wanted someone who loved america, you would have pushed for a true libertarian. Instead you get this flip-flopping nonsense spewer with a record of basically saying anything he has to say to get into office. The only good thing about his election will be watching you all twist in the wind as he does absolutely NOTHING to improve the lives of anyone but the folks who bought his spot in the white house. And here’s a clue: it ain‘t y’all.
Report Post »MadAsHeII
Posted on September 1, 2012 at 11:55pm@Laughin Willow, If you go above and click my link, you will see that unless Romney and the RNC repeal the rules changes they made, the Tea Party along with the Paul supporters are not going to campaign in their states as the leadership in those states. This will cause Romney to lose and we will have Obama for another four. I do not believe that Romney or the RNC under Reince Preibus will do such a thing as it would end up putting egg on their faces. So, the logical conclusion is, Romney will not have a chance to win. Everybody better start searching their souls on this in order to figure out that we have nominated the wrong man and we have put the wrong man in charge of the Republican Party. The sooner everyone realizes this, the sooner we can fix it.

Posted on September 2, 2012 at 1:16am@Madesheii: Right on brother/sister!! And Romney SHOULD lose. The “right” needs to receive a serious message that there are too many of us out here who are not falling for their garbage. It’s one thing to force this flip-flopping nothing nominee on us, but to add insult to injury by cutting libertarians and real conservatives out of the entire primary process? Seriously? It makes me physically ill to think about the fact that any so-called “conservative” is even CONSIDERING voting for Romney, much less enthusiastically doing so. It’s just so gross. But not a surprise either, I guess.

Posted on September 2, 2012 at 7:32am@mhojai Many in the liberty movement believe the RNC has abandoned governing within the confines of the Constitution as well. I don’t see how ignoring the 4th Amendment with the Patriot Act and drones, the 6th and 7th amendments with the NDAA, and the first amendment with HR 347 are consistent with the Constitution. It’s bad enough they support MANY programs and departments that violated the enumerated powers clause like defense of marriage act, all the unconstitutional departments, etc that all progressives seem to do. No, I’d argue the RNC is as far from the constitution as the DNC. Care to explain which constitutional principles the RNC is pushing?
