Obama Says ‘We’re Better Off With My Policies,’ Boehner Replies: ‘Are You Kidding Me?’

Were the critics right when they suggested that President Obama had isolated himself from his economic advisers?

That might explain how he could believe that Americans are “better off” at at time when the country is barely adding jobs, the unemployment rate is high and budget is anything but balanced.

Perhaps he’s simply unaware of the situation.

When asked in an interview with a Minnesota affiliate of CBS television whether he thinks Americans are better off then they were four years ago, the president responded with, “Well, you know, I think we are better off now than we would have been if I hadn’t taken all the steps that we took.”

It is important to note that the video only captures the first part of his response and that the president went on to clarify his statement:

I don’t think the country is stronger yet then it was when the economy was still booming and we didn’t have Wall Street crisis, and we didn’t have the housing bubble burst.

But, we’ve made steady progress, we just need to make more.

However, this seems like an about-face from earlier comments made by the president when, in an interview with ABC television, he acknowledged that Americans were not “better off than they were four years ago.”

But then again, he clarified that statement as well.

“What we‘ve seen is that we’ve been able to make steady progress to stabilize the economy,” President Obama said. “But the unemployment rate is still way too high. And that‘s why it’s so critical for us to make sure that we are taking every action we can take to put people back to work.”

Following the CBS interview, reporters at The Hill decided to ask Speaker of the House John Boehner what he thought of the president’s assessment. Judging by the Speaker’s reaction, he was not at all aware of the president’s comments.

“Are you kidding me?” the Speaker said.

“Why don‘t you go ask the 14 million Americans who are out of work whether they’re better off today than they were four years ago?” he added.

Ed Morrisey of Hot Air presumably had more time to prepare a statement:

As Jim Geraghty says, it all depends on your definition of “better.”  Do we have more jobs?  No.  Do we have lower unemployment?  No.  Do we have a more balanced federal budget? No.  Do we have increasing household income? No.

And in regards to Boehner’s reaction, “Unfortunately no, the President isn’t kidding — not himself, and not anyone else,  but he’s also not fooling anyone, either,” Morrissey writes.

Turn up the heat on these progressive anti-American hateful people and bring some common sense and reasonability back to our country. We had better start doing this NOW, not tomorrow.       After 7 years of Bush policies, with a year left in his Presidency, the economy collapsed into the worst economy since the Great Depression and the deficit skyrocketed.

      The Republicans now want to double down on Bush policies, extending them even further. I‘m not sure how we’d be better off with Bush policies, given we tried that and the result were calamitous.

      You ought to get your facts straight. This whole economic problem is largely, but not entirely, due to the housing colapse. Liberals like Bonnie Fwank and Chris Dodd pushed through legislation to allow people that did not qualify for mortgages that everyone knew they could never pay back. They were even allowed to use thier welfare income to apply. Then, once Freddie and Fannie bought up all those bad loans and everyone started to go belly up, the whole system went into a tail spin. And by the way, Bonnie Fwank had a boyfriend at Freddie at the time. Your hero the Obamunist and his fellow “community organizers” put pressure on those banks to approve the loans using strong arm tactics. Even bush told congress that this would become a problem but the Democrats would not even consider changing the laws to be more reasonable. People like McCain, Greespan, and others also testified that a calamity is coming. A bill was intoduced to toughen up riquirements for mortgage applications but the Democrats again would not let it come to the floor for a vote.

    I guess he’s just hedging his bets–he REALLY wants to take credit for anything good that might have happened on his watch (though we’d be hard-pressed to find any examples), but just in case, he wanted to spread the blame around to others, at which he has proven himself an expert since taking office. What a BOZO. He doesn’t even need the red wig to pull off that look with those Dumbo ears!

    Don’t fall for this, it’s a trick. He had his chance to right and failed.

    Obama’s birth certificate alleges “where” he was born and his parent’s citizenship “when” he was born. These equally important “facts” are now beyond Obama’s ability to refute, alter or hide! Unless fake, his Kenyan father inescapably precludes his Constitutional eligibility as a natural born citizen by not being born within US jurisdiction to TWO US citizen parents.

    Candidates for President, each having “legal standing” are therefore obligated to sue Obama and the DNC for fraud and failure to qualify as a natural born citizen, or be dismissed as untrustworthy!

    Constitution, Art. 2, Sec. 1, “No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible … .”

    Exempting a “citizen” from being a “natural born citizen” proves they aren’t equal, or no exemption was needed. Being not less than nor equal, a NBC must be more than the minimum requisite for citizenship then, which was US birth to a US citizen parent.       Wow, what an impressive list of deranged nobodies. I guess if all those people think they can wish the President out of office, you might have something. After all, who do we have on the other side saying that his birth on American soil makes him a natural born citizen fully eligible to run for President? Nobody except the Congress, the Supreme Court, every judge in the country, and every journalist working for a legitimate news organization.

      Obama’s birth certificate contains many anomalies justifying further investigation by law enforcement, as does his social security number. Both are alleged to be fraudulent by numerous experts.

      Even if the fraud had gone unnoticed, Obama is still not Constitutionally eligible. Article 2, Section 1, requires the President to be a natural born citizen. This involves two equally important prerequisites. The first is being born in the USA or sovereign US jurisdiction. The second is being born to US citizen parents (plural). Both prerequisites must be satisfied. Obama absolutely failed to meet one prerequisite at birth and maybe both! He does not have TWO US citizen parents. Therefore he is not eligible.

      Far from being well researched and properly referenced, the nonsense on your website is just a mass of circular reasoning that never addresses the essential questions. On what law, court decision or other authoritative source do you base the belief that natural born citizen is not synonymous with citizen by birth? What authority has ever endorsed the belief that the term natural born citizen excludes citizens other than naturalized citizens born in other countries? What law court decision or other authoritative source after 1898 when the Supreme Court addressed the issue of citizenship by birth has ever held that anyone born in this country is not a natural born citizen? What source do you have for the belief that being the child of two citizens is a requirement for establishing natural born citizenship other than your deliberate misinterpretation of an irrelevant Supreme Court decision that both predates their 1898 ruling, and specifically says that it is not setting a precedent or establishing a complete and exclusive definition of natural born citizenship?

      I want people to examine the Constitution, that’s the only way they will know that nothing in it supports your claims about what it means. You should get a motto of your own, like “The Constitution, I’ll tell you what it should say,” or “This is my word, petition your local sheriff to enforce it instead of the actual law.”

      What “source material” am I supposed to refute? All your sources are just crackpots from other blogs. None of the original sources they quote have any real relevance to your main contention that some citizens born in this country are not natural born citizens.
