Obama Sells His Economic Record by Talking up Plant He Tried to Close

President Obama wants desperately to be able to take credit for economic recovery…even when his administration arguably stood in the way.

The Washington Examiner reports that the President recently delivered a speech praising the productivity of Boeing’s manufacturing plants:

“This company is a great example of what American manufacturing can do in a way that nobody else in the world can do it,” Obama told the assembled workers this afternoon at the Everett, Wash., Boeing plant.  ”And the impact of your success, as I said, goes far beyond the walls of this plant.  Every Dreamliner that rolls off the assembly line here in Everett supports thousands of jobs in different industries all across the country.  Parts of the fuselage are manufactured in South Carolina and Kansas,” Obama noted before mentioning factories in other states.

The problem? His administration tried to close one of the most productive of those plants over conflict with unions. Specifically, when Boeing decided to relocate some of its manufacturing plants to South Carolina – a right-to-work state, unlike Washington state – the unions sued in front of Obama’s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in retaliation. The NLRB sided with the unions, even though the workers themselves had voted to kick them out of their plant. From RedState:

Having posted extensively on the Machinists’ union smokescreen at Boeing, there is some sense of satisfaction in knowing that Boeing’s union-free employees in South Carolina are not letting the union get away with retaliating against them for choosing to be union-free.

Indeed, were it not for the fact that the once-unionized Boeing employees in South Carolina kicked the Machinists union out of their workplace, the union would likely never have filed a charge against Boeing for locating the 787 work in South Carolina.

Some may argue that the NRLB‘s decision to sue the plant wasn’t directly the fault of the White House. Yet news outlets have openly suggested that, far from being too detached from the NRLB, the White House may have too much influence.

Nor is this the first time the Obama administration has clashed with the airplane industry. Boeing manufactures one of the most expensive and desired private jets on the market – yet the Obama administration has publicly taken the position that ownership of private jets should be taxed.

For Obama’s next trick – he is going to Gibson Guitar and take credit for destroying that company – and the Crowd erupts in applause!

Then its off to the Pipe Line States where he tells his crowd of Union Supporters, Welfare Recipients, Occupiers, Illegals and his newest group, Women taking Birth Control Pills that Obama promises to pay for.

The speech may go down like – Over there in that field Big Oil wanted to build a Pipe Line – I stopped it because Women don’t need to be burdened with paying for the cost of Birth Control – I will order the tooth Fairy pay for BC and “All the Women Cheered” Then Shouted Obama – Obama.

Then I looked at my son and daughter and say “sorry kids, Momma needs a new pair of shoes – so your future is even more bleak, but on the other hand mom by supporting Obama is going to save $30 a month because she doesn’t have to pay for BC Pills any more.

The Everett, Wash. Boeing plant where he spoke is union. President Obama tried to close this plant, a union plant? No, that’s wrong. Boeing considered closing the plant and moving it to Charlston. The story is confused. The only people who considered closing the plant was Boeing. The employees wanted the plant to stay in Everett, you know, to keep their jobs.

      You guys will believe anything.

Ruler4You; “How does a guy like that get elected in the first place?” It’s simple really. It’s called Chicago style politics. They are the most corrupt in America and there are only a few people that can get elected there. That was the city that learned how to control an election by getting dead people to vote and voting more then once or stopping some people from voting or just loosing the ballots for some precincts so the right man wins. They ran that on a national scale and it worked to perfection. How else can you get someone elected that is in no way qualified to hold that office. At least Georgia has taken him off the 2012 ballot and other states are starting to follow their example. Georgia had Obama so dead to rights that he didn’t even bother to send his lawyer to fight it. He was going to loose that and he knew it, so to save time and effort he didn’t bother to fight it. If enough states take him off the ballot then there is no way he can get elected. It’s about time someone did something to stop the train he is riding on. Then he will be left with declaring martial law and stopping the elections altogether. That should go over big………….

For some reason this person feels it necessary to critique the publisher of this story and attempt to find mistakes made but the truth is in the story. Boeing moved a plant to S.C. a right to work state. The administration of Pres. Obama was not very pleased and to appease the union leadership attempted to file law suits and prevent this plant from opening and operating.

This administration wanted this plant after it was built to be shut down so that all workers involved would be union workers. It is what this administration does.

      @Justmehere,

They didn’t move the plant, there are two Final Assembly and Delivery plants: One in Everett, and one in Charleston. You are right, they (Obama/IAM/NLRB) did want to have it closed, which I find morally reprehensible to have a company spend the kind of money that Boeing did to build the plant, only to have the NLRB complaint filed two months before production was to start there. It was the IAM trying to get Boeing by the short hairs.

Plus, the IAM is not welcome in South Carolina. They were kicked out of the aft body assembly plant in September 2009. The workers there don’t want them. The vote was 66% against them, and the feeling there (so I’m told) is even more negative now.

My intention is to ensure that there are facts presented, and not “almost facts”. As the point of this website (the Blaze) is to ensure that the truth is here, I want to be sure that it is presented accordingly.

Again, I think we’re on the same side.

Virtually everyone i know at the plant does not want the union. Those that do are mainly the useless types that want the union to ensure that they won’t be fired for not actually doing their work.
And NO jobs were relocated to SC. NEW jobs were created. Look at the numbers. There are more people working in both places than there were 2 years ago.

I can’t wait to see the planes coming out of both plants, and I hope you guys down there give us a run for our money!

Please, everyone, the article is inaccurate in this way:
There are 4 manufacturing entities within Boeing at South Carolina:
Mid-Body -> The parts there feed both Everett and South Carolina FA&D
Aft-Body -> The parts manufactured there feed both Everett and South Carolina FA&D
Interiors -> Not sure, but I think they feed South Carolina FA&D
FA&D (Final Assembly and Delivery): This is the plant that Obama/NLRB/IAM (Everett Machinists Union) wanted shut down. This is essentially a duplicate of the FA&D in Everett, where Obama was today.

OK, now what he was touting was mid and aft body in SC, not FA&D in SC, which he was attempting to shut down. It’s a bit tricky to follow, but he did say the truth on this one. If they shut down mid and aft body, nobody in the 787 program would be working, because the only part of the airplane produced would be the front end, at Spirit in Wichita, KS.

I am no Obama fan, but I am a fan of misrepresentation of the truth even less.

@Justmehere Please clarify what you are saying.

What I am saying, and I have intimate knowledge of what I am speaking of is this: Obama/NLRB/IAM was trying to shut down the new FA&D plant, not the ones that supply Everett. To shut those two plants would be suicide for the 787 program, as there would only be a flight deck and nothing to attach the wings or horizontal or vertical stabilizers to.

The 787 is built in sections and assembled at the FA&D plant, which Boeing has two: One in Everett and one in South Carolina. The mid and aft bodies have been built there for 6+ years, and the FA&D building in SC just started taking airplane sections in 2011. That building that opened in 2011 was the one that Obama/NLRB/IAM wanted closed. They weren’t too happy with the other two, but closing them would be suicide, especially with the ramp up. You don’t just start up an airplane manufacturing plant overnight.

I hope this helps to clear things up.

I am not sure what your intentions are. Are you defending Pres. Obama and his administration or not. I am just saying that the story states that this administrations intent was shutting down the operation of the Boeing plant in S.C.

If there is more that need to be clarified please let me know. This Administration is pro-union and the plant that Boeing constructed in South Carolina was non-union and this administration was not very please about that.

@Justmehere, I want to be sure the article is accurate, which it isn’t, as written.

Again, the one plant that Boeing has in SC that they were trying to close wasn’t one of those that supplies Everett FA&D from Charleston. It was the one that does the same thing that Everett does. Mid and Aft body and FA&D are all at the same site, but they do different things.

Think of it as a sandwich factory in Everett, and the two plants in South Carolina supply peanut butter and jelly, and the bread comes from Wichita, and the Everett plant puts them all together to make a yummy PB&J sandwich.. Boeing builds another plant in South Carolina, to assemble the sandwiches using the same peanut butter, jelly and bread from the same suppliers as Everett, but doing it in South Carolina.

The unions would not want to shut down the peanut butter plant, nor would they want to shut down the jelly plant, even thought they’re in South Carolina. If they shut down those two, the Everett sandwich plant couldn’t have any PB or J for the sandwiches. They wanted to shut down the other sandwich assembly plant in South Carolina.

Now, to wrap it all up: What Obama was talking about being “made in America” was the PB and J in the analogy above, not the sandwich assembly plant t they tried to close.

The author of the article made it appear that the parts came from the sandwich assembly plant, which is untrue.

I think we’re on the same side of the argument, but I want the article to

The crap Boeing has had to put up with over the years…. decades really….. from union strikes and walkouts to the massive pensions is crippling. This is the USA and if a company wants to relocate, regardless of the reasons, it is their right. I applaud Boeing for the move and suggest Oblamer opened his communist regime for all to witness. @Cuinsong,
I’m sincerely sorry if you think that I am an Obama shill. Please, let me assure you that I am not. I work at Boeing in Everett, and I was forced to join a union. I transferred from the Charleston mid-body plant, and with that information, those that worked there probably know who I am.

I was there when the aft-body plant kicked the IAM out, and I cheered. I was there when Boeing decided to build the second FA&D plant (this is the one that the IAM wanted shut down), and I cheered. I was there when Boeing came in an had the groundbreaking, and I saw that Joe Wilson (the guy that said “you lie” to Obama) had 10 people, including me, waiting to have their picture taken with him, and the rest of the congressional delegation had none. I also saw what the IAM did to Boeing in getting the complaint dropped with the 737 contract.

With that, Glenn has emphasized that the truth is more important than party, and that has been my goal in this discussion. I just don’t want the picture muddied, and if I have done that, please accept my apologies. The truth has no pay grade.

Keepintheskeeron‘s point is that the article says that Boeing’s South Carolina plant is a new plant and not a relocation of existing operations. The purported rationale for the NRLB’s action to stop the operation of the South Carolina plant was that it was a form of “retaliation” against the union and that it was a relocation of work from a closed shop state to a right to work state. The article “spins” (i.e. falsely states) recent history in a way that favors Der Obamasar and his gang when it says: “Specifically, when Boeing decided to relocate some of its manufacturing plants to South Carolina – a right-to-work state.”

I do not believe Obama is a socialist. A Socialist supposedly spreads the wealth to the poor. Just when has Obama ever done that? He has funneled BILLIONS to his contributors and cronies, but that does not make him a socialist. It makes him a liar, thief and criminal! I just wish there was one or two honest agents in the FBI etc that would arrest his as$ for the blatant crimes he has been repeatedly committing. And dare I dream put him in the same cell as GW Bush and Cheney for doing the same thing!

Obama may not be a card carrying member of any socialist party but he cannot hide his Marxist policies.

He’s a politician. You can’t expect him to remember what he was for or against. I mean I feel bad for politicians. Keeping up with the lies and where they stand on issues. I mean it’s hard to try and get reelected. People always using low ball tactics like THE TRUTH and stuff like FACTS… Really I just feel sorry for Obama and all the politicians; Democrats and Republicans.

You know, when you spend every waking hour lying to everyone, you start lying to yourself and soon enough, you don’t know what is true and what is not. I think Obama will get so tangled up in his web of deceit that it will end up cracking him up, literally.
