Obama Sends ‘Warmest Thoughts’ for Kwanzaa

President and Michelle Obama sent their Christmas wishes on Saturday. On Sunday, they made sure to send similar wishes for Kwanzaa.
“Michelle and I extend our warmest thoughts and wishes to all those who are celebrating Kwanzaa this holiday season. Today [Dec. 26] is the first of a joyful seven-day celebration of African American culture and heritage,” the couple said in a statement.
The pair went on to say that the spirit of Kwanzaa embodies the values of Americans: “The seven principles of Kwanzaa — unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith — are some of the very values that make us Americans.”
The Obamas issued a similar statement last year marking the African-American holiday. “Michelle and I know the challenges facing many African American families and families in all communities at this time, but we also know the spirit of perseverance and hope that is ever present in the community,” the president said last year.
The celebration, which began in 1966, is a week long and culminates with a feast and gift-giving.

Your comment makes no sense. The Republicans don’t have to have somebody nominated right now this day in order for Obama to not be re-elected in the future. Lacking somebody nominated today does not guarantee Obama a 2nd term. How you can come to such a conclusion defies logic.

Posted on December 27, 2010 at 12:33pm@ARGO – I think we all understand that holidays had to be founded at sometime…but that’s not the point! Kwanzaa was founded only for blacks as the founder stated that blacks should shun Jesus and Christianity. Christians, Jews, Hindus, and even Muslims do not alienate race for their religions, but Kwanzaa has no problem trying to create that divide and an ever increasing gap between race relations. I find it quite hypocritical that some may celebrate Christmas and Kwanzaa while knowing the roots of such a hateful, fabricated week of hypocrisy. I also know under scrutiny that Kwanzaa has elected to allow blacks to celebrate both holidays when knowing full well the foundation was against it. If you support Kwanzaa, then YOU are apart of the problem. We have no place for such stupidity in this country..but alas, we elected its King!

I send greetings to those observing Kwanzaa.
Celebrated by millions across the world, Kwanzaa honors the history and heritage of Africa. This seven-day observance is an opportunity for individuals of African descent to remember the sacrifices of their ancestors and reflect on the Nguzo Saba. Kwanzaa’s seven social and spiritual principles offer strength and guidance to meet the challenges of each new day.
During this joyous time of year, Americans renew our commitment to hope, understanding, and the great promise of our Nation. In honoring the traditions of Africa, Kwanzaa strengthens the ties that bind individuals in communities across our country and around the world.
Laura joins me in sending our best wishes for a joyous Kwanzaa.

Posted on December 27, 2010 at 12:44pm@JZS – Although I understand that Presidents in the past have embraced our diversity, why is it so outlandish to condemn this “Black History Week” by virtue of its hypocrisy and hateful rhetoric? Its founder is a felon, fraud and Marxist. Why must we sit idly by while this nonsense gathers steam? Funny, how it follows Christmas as the intentions were made for blacks to shun Christ, but then receded its condemnation and allowed ONLY BLACKS to celebrate both…cake-eat it too! I understand the PC atmosphere given from past Presidents in recognition of this as Bush probably did it just to appease the racist believers. I have issue with that as no President should ever acknowledge such stupidity and it goes to show you even popularity can bring out irrelevance. Look deeper into why Bush and Obama recognized the holiday and not just that they did. Conservatives are pissed at Bush for an array of things, but still support him based on our current compared predicament. I guess Judaism should allow Christians to celebrate Hannukah too? Brilliant!!
