God don’t hear his prayers unless he first prays for forgiveness of sins and repents. That goes for ALL of us since God is not a respector of persons. There’s enough that he DOES do that deserves criticism. And, I think there’s some universal dad thing that makes them comment about daughters and their dating one day. That dress for a 12 year old is a bit short, but she is a very pretty girl.

All men with daughters, who are the fathers of their daughters (and not just the sperm donor), can sympathize with this. It is common ground, and it worked out fine. The onus is on me to look for common ground, just as it is for all other individuals. If somebody else refuses to, that doesn’t absolve me from the task of doing the right thing.

Though to be fair, my 11 year old sometimes tries to dress poorly, but being a father, I forbid it and make her change before she’s allowed out of the house. I’m not a tyrant nor a prude by any measure, but I’m also not a fan of a pre-teen under my care dressing like a stripper.

I don’t like the guy. I really don’t like the guy at all. But he’s a human being like the rest of us, and as a father of a girl he shares some common ground with the rest of us fathers with a daughter.
It was a simple joke, and it made him, for perhaps the first time, seem like a normal human being to me. I’m going to give him a pass on this one.
