Obama Signs Defense Funding Bill Despite ‘Reservations’ About Terror Detainee Provisions

(The Blaze/AP) President Barack Obama signed a $662 Billion defense bill into law from Hawaii Saturday, where he is vacationing with his family. The Hill reports that a lengthy signing statement was attached to the bill by the White House, “vehemently objecting to several provisions concerning the detention and prosecution of terror suspects.”
“‘I have signed this bill despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation, and prosecution of suspected terrorists,’ Obama said in a signing statement.
‘Ultimately, I decided to sign this bill not only because of the critically important services it provides for our forces and their families and the national security programs it authorizes, but also because the Congress revised provisions that otherwise would have jeopardized the safety, security, and liberty of the American people.”
POLITICO reports that the White House had initially threatened to veto the bill entitled the National Defense Authorization Act, which authorizes both defense and counterterrorism spending through fiscal year 2012 and regulates the detention, interrogation and prosecution of suspected terrorists.
Administration officials told the Associated Press that the President was only signing the measure because Congress made minimally acceptable changes that no longer challenged the president’s terrorism-fighting ability.
One of the several changes to the bill that the administration was able to secure includes a provision that would have eliminated executive branch authority to use civilian courts for trying terrorism cases against foreign nationals.
AP reports that the new law now requires military custody for any suspect who is a member of al-Qaida or “associated forces” and involved in planning or attempting to carry out an attack on the United States or its coalition partners. The president or a designated subordinate may waive the military custody requirement by certifying to Congress that such a move is in the interest of national security.
AP reports that the administration also pushed Congress to change a provision that would have denied U.S. citizens suspected of terrorism the right to trial and could have subjected them to indefinite detention. Lawmakers eventually dropped the military custody requirement for U.S. citizens or lawful U.S. residents.
“My administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens,” Obama said in the signing statement. “Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a nation.”
The attachment of the President’s cutting signing statement is ironic considering that candidate Obama heavily criticized President George W. Bush’s use of the practice, and promised to make his application of the tool more transparent. Signing statements allow presidents to raise constitutional objections to circumvent Congress’ intent.
AP reports that the bill also applies penalties against Iran‘s central bank in an effort to hamper Tehran’s ability to fund its nuclear enrichment program. The Obama administration is looking to soften the impact of those penalties because of concerns that they could lead to a spike in global oil prices or cause economic hardship on U.S. allies that import petroleum from Iran.
Despite the changes, several officials have cited serious concerns that the law will complicate and could harm the investigation of terrorism cases.
AP reports that FBI Director Robert Mueller has said the measure would inhibit his bureau’s ability to persuade suspected terrorists to cooperate immediately and provide critical intelligence. Other officials have said agents and prosecutors should not have to spend their time worrying about citizenship status and whether get a waiver while trying to thwart a terror attack.
The $662 billion authorization bill also freezes some $700 million in assistance to Pakistan, until the nation comes up with a strategy to deal with improvised explosive devices.

What is troubling is that now they can “hire” UN and other friendly nation troops into the US military. So when they get their national emergency or what ever they have planned they don’t have to worry about US citizen troops who have sworn an oath to the constitution and have loyalty to neighbor and brother. They can just bring in foreign troops flying the US flag. If you want to see how bloody that looks just study soviet history of the 50s and 60s, and how they dealt with uprisings in some of their satelite countries

Well this will be one of my many mantras of the coming year with the course we are on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoMhyUkE2Kg
While everyone bickers back and forth about Obama signing this bill, his intentions and how he himself flip flopped on this. (flip flopping is very big with all those in DC) I would like to know WHO WROTE THE BILL? Who came up with the bright idea to go after Americans leaving it so broad and open anyone of us now will be targeted?
Let me tell you what will happen they will push this via the media to install fear among the people. This is nothing, for now, but a psy-op to silence any and everyone who is voicing their opinion against this regime and DC. Just the idea of being investigated and possibly incarcerated will do more than enough damage!
Find out who authored the sections that targets America and of course those who were in favor. They my friends are your primary targets to remove from power with the coming election. (not that I have much faith in it based on what I have been seeing lately).

Are they serious; we are supposed to believe that he has reservations about signing the bill? If he truly does, then why did he sign it. He could have stood his ground on his veto threat. By his very statement he validated the provision that the bill will allow the government to hold American citizens in military detention without a trial. He will not use it… he!! his administration has already said that they can kill an American citizen without a trial if they are deemed to be a terrorist (which has an ever expanding definition). One day, after another singular whack, the end has occurred, almost without notice. Even if there are no additional strikes, the tree will not recover and will eventually wither and die.
The tree of America is close to the point where it’s demise is inevitable. There is still a little time left, but not much. Will Romney rise to the occasion and meet this historical challenge if elected?. I am not confidant that he will. The change that is necessary will have to come from the ground up, there will need to be pain and unrest. I pray for God’s intervention once again.

But according to Article I, Section 9;
“The privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.”
In other words, the founders left a loop hole, for allowing the suspension of “Habeas Corpus”… In which case and I think we see how the politicians read it in case of this Defense bills… Terrorists, both domestic and otherwise, pose an “invasion” or “rebellion” in our midst…

There is a solution. It requires both a short and long term plan of action.
1. Vote! Ask your like minded family and friends to register to vote and drive as many of them to the polls as you can on election day.
2. Ask your local tea party to request that the local sheriff investigate Obama’s birth certificate and social security number prior to Obama being allowed on the 2012 state ballot, which are both alleged to be fraudulent by numerous experts.
3. Similarly require the Secretary of State for your state to do their sworn duty to insure no ineligible candidates are permitted on the 2012 ballot. If the threat of being unelected is insufficient persuasion then be prepared to go to court, but only do so with an attorney who understands that a Obama is not a natural born citizen based on being born a British citizen and for failing to have TWO U.S. citizen parents.
4. Elect State Assembly members who are locally trusted and committed to repealing the 17th amendment. When enough states agree, this can be done independent of Congress. This will restore the genius of the Constitution whereby Senators are selected by trusted State Assemblies, eliminating campaigning and any need to trade favors for contributions. If one can‘t bribe a Senator it’s futile to bribe a House member or President, thus ending most political corruption.
5. Remove activist judges.
