Obama Snuffs Out Controversial Smog Regulations

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is sacking a controversial proposed regulation tightening government smog standards, bowing to the demands of congressional Republicans and some business leaders.

In a statement Friday, Obama said he had ordered Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lisa Jackson to withdraw the proposal, in part because of the importance of reducing regulatory burdens and uncertainty for businesses at a time of rampant uncertainty about an unsteady economy.

The announcement came shortly after a new government report on private sector employment report showed that businesses essentially added no new jobs last month – and that the jobless rate remained stuck at a historically high 9.1 percent.

The withdrawal of the proposed EPA rule comes two days after the White House identified seven such regulations that it said would cost private business at least $1 billion each. The proposed smog standard was estimated to cost anywhere between $19 billion and $90 billion, depending on how strict it would be.

The smog standard was among the Obama administration regulations that House Republicans said this week they would try to block this fall.

The move is sure to raise the ire of environmentalists, a core Obama constituency. In his statement, Obama said he was still committed to protecting public health and the environment.

“I will continue to stand with the hardworking men and women at the EPA as they strive every day to hold polluters accountable and protect our families from harmful pollution,” he said.

We are so lucky that the United states isn’t connected in any way to the rest of the world! Since no other Country cares what they put in the air. Good thing because we might think taxpayer‘s money was wasted if another Country’s air somehow made it to the U.S…..DA!

“I will continue to stand with the hardworking men and women at the EPA as they strive every day to hold polluters accountable and protect our families from harmful pollution,” he said. To hell with standing with the “hard working men and women at the EPA. This poor excuse for a president should be standing with the “hardly or not working men and women of this country”, by standing with the employers and coming up with ways to reduce government over regulation so that they can begin to hire those of us who haven’t worked in months. Obama is a sorry sack of crap!

    .
THIS IS … MERELY … AN EFFORT TO MAKE HIMSELF LOOK BETTER FOR November 2012.
    .
THE ONLY REASON Obama would back off of ANYTHING is to get re-elected.
    .
If he gets re-elected…..HANG ON……Everything he is backing off from right now WILL return to FLOOD THE NATION WORSE THAN THE FLOODS OF KATRINA or IRENE.
    .
OBAMAS FLOOD of REGULATORY INTERVENTION WILL CREATE MORE FINANCIAL DEVISTATION than both of these hurricanes in their totality.
    .
    2012 – ANYBODY but Obama !!!

The “regulation” most likely is a fine for estimated emissions based on a shell game strategy.
The percentage of pollutants is raised by not counting certain contributors such as illegal
driven, fake inspection sticker burrito mobiles. The air is sampled and all the counts are attributed to whomever the EPA wishes to extort.
They were probably caught in one way or another to make the decision to back off.
Don’t think for a minute the decision was made in order to “create” anything of value.

So Obama is removing regulations he helped put in place and trying to use it to score political points.
It is like Obama set america house on fire and trys to play the hero when he puts it out.
This has to be the inept, unqualified, inexperience president and administration in history.
The amazing part is most of his base still support him without question after seeing these things.

I believe that anymore the EPA is doing more harm to this country than helping. Recently it came out due to the EPA it took 10 years to build a oil refinery where actual construction time is 1 year. With current oil prices they are really hurting this country. We need to get rid of the EPA.

Here in Southern California, the water authorities have spent millions of dollars to cover reservoirs to avoid EPA fines. These costs will most likely be passed on to already overburdened ratepayers. Now, they are being told that EPA is relaxing it‘s regulations and the covers aren’t really needed. The cause for this change is because someone (I believe in New York) has sued the EPA to back of the strict regs. So millions are spent for no apparent reason and government officials walk away without even a slap on the wrist. This will continue as long as we keep our heads stuck in the ground.

Put on hold until November 7, 2012 no doubt. Win or lose, obama will cram it back in before the end of his term. How many more flip flops will there be in his bid for votes. Obamacare is a prime example of this. Burn the midnight oil to cram everything in before the balance of power changes. He probably realizes he has no chance for reelection and will continue his practice of issueing decrees (executive orders). That”s been hinted at already, a jobs plan and he doesn’t need the Congress.
