WASHINGTON (AP/THE BLAZE) — President Barack Obama says Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi must leave the country now.
Obama made the comments to German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a private telephone conversation Saturday as they discussed the violence in Libya. The White House says Obama told Merkel that when a leader’s only means of holding power is to use violence against his people, then he has lost the legitimacy to rule and needs to do what’s right for his country by “leaving now.”
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
The comments mark the first time that Obama has called on Gadhafi to step down.
Gadhafi has launched a violent crackdown against protesters demanding his ouster. He has vowed a bloody fight to the end.
Meanwhile, the battle for Tripoli continues:

Posted on February 26, 2011 at 5:15pmWell … then that’s that. Can there be any doubt that Moammar is a ‘shakin’ in his tracks? Our Big Mean Wuss-in-Chief told Angela that he has to go and then she told … who? So is this what they mean when they say, “Little ******** have big ears.” ? Another proud moment in the legacy that is Barack Hussein Obama. No wonder he won the Nobel Peace Prize. I bet as soon as the word gets around in Libya the violence will cease. The streets will clear. And all the world will be safe again. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Lord Barry. You’re the bestest President ever. (More Koolaid, please.)

Then came The United States Marine’s No more tribute. No more pirates. Then came WWII where Gen IKE and GEN Montgomery kicked Rommel and Armin and the Italians ( while the French waffled between trying to figure out who was gonna win. Since you have an opinion I am assuming you might be lucid enough to search (on a politically neutral site) for information about our relationship with Libya and how it differs from the one we have with Egypt. So expecting the POTUS to actually have a clue and to actually show a semblance of interest is too much to ask for to a sycophant such as yourself. Personally I think Gecko is well within his rights to start calling for a removal from office, if nothing else for incompetence of duties.

Perhaps if nobama was trying to be a good American leader rather then a candidate for world leader he might actually get a backbone and actually tell Gadhafi himself to get out rather than tell another leader, “in a private phone conversation”. LOL…I’m curious to know what you consider the “will of the people” to be. Here’s the problem…unfortunately if the president completely followed what I consider to be the “will of the people” the outcomes of every decision made would be far worse than with what we are currently dealing….People have a voice, but most who vote truly do not take the time to understand rationale behind specific policies. Rather, they jump on the bandwagon or simply allow their emotional leanings to sway their beliefs/ideology without understanding whether what they are supporting will help or hurt them.
Gecko is definitely well within his rights to call for impeachment; however, his reasoning for doing so is beyond puerile, tawdry, and irrational. In fact, it’s down right dumb!
The current may be clueless when it comes to understanding your political leanings, but who in their right mind would actually have a clue.

Posted on February 26, 2011 at 11:26pmWell future I must of gone a little too far over your head. Let me try this again and Ill slow it down for you. It isn’t a matter of the POTUS being clueless to “my political leanings”. He is clueless and incompetent in executing the duties of the POTUS period. The oil spill – it took him what two weeks to actually engage in a response (and even that was well below a reasonable response), Iran – it took him 9 days to respond and even then he supports the leadership then finally gives a tepid backing of the Iranian people, then you have Egypt – he took 5 days to respond and he supports Mubarak then the people then Mubarak then the people then Mubarak then the people then the young people (waffles come to mind), then Libya – he took over a week to address Libya then he doesn‘t even address Qaddaffi and leaves no real support for the people until he realizes that the American people don’t care for his weak response then he all of a sudden finds a spine albeit weak spine. And don’t even get me started on his back room dealing and lieing to pass through the completely unconstitutional Health insurance debacle. He is incompetent and unable to properly perform his duties as the POTUS.

He was THRILLED with the Gulf oil spill so he could shut down drilling and did not speak until the damage was done…but he NUDGED the violence in Egypt until he got what he wanted, now he has waited till oil prices shot up and people are dead before he speaks. Obama is helping destroy not only America, but the world. This is his purpose…but worry not, he is such a small player in the great scheme of things, the real Masters will throw him under the bus when he has completed his tasks.

I second that! Do us all a favor and leave the WH. The world has no respect of FEAR of the US anymore. The headline the other day is we are no 3 as far as largest economies… we are slowly going down guys!
As bad as it is over there we cannot get involved. Iraq Afghanistan is more than enough, and IMO we need to pull out with whats coming down the road over there. BHO needs to keep his mouth shut at this point and let the UN handle it. Not that they will, since they are so inept, but the US cannot play a role in this. Maybe provide air support but thats it. It could be looked at very badly by other nations since we are already in Iraq and Afghanistan, our presence alone at this point in another muslim country will probably be considered an act of war by the radicals viewpoint!
All these sanctions they are trying to put in place are a bit too late too IMO. Now that Qadhafi is shooting ppl in the streets with heavy machines guns and anti aircraft guns (Ive seen the vids and pics you would not believe it until you see the bodies and carnage) they missed that train on the effectiveness of sanctions. Let them fight it out its their civil war….

Posted on February 26, 2011 at 11:04pmhifi74, you need to watch the news. You and Sarah Palin and other TPs where calling for strong words from the President a week ago, with Sarah saying in effect we should declare war on Libya. But the President’s priority, which he said right at the start had you been paying attention, was first to protect Americans. That’s his job HiFi.
He was was rightfully being very careful about he said and didn’t say in order to protect American citizens and diplomats in Libya. If Qaddafi perceived this as a battle between himself and the US what would he have done? Hello? Killed Americans or taken them hostage. You and Sarah aren’t thinking that far ahead, but thank God the President is.
But we got a lot of Americans out, Americans who would likely have died otherwise. And now things have changed. Once that was done, the UN announced sanctions against Qaddafi, his and his families’ assets frozen, the US closed it’s embassy and Obama has called for Qaddafi to leave the country or face the consequences. It’s not a coincidence that all those thing happened immediately after Americans got out of the country.

Your points are well taken. Getting all our people out safely was Priority #1. And I personally don’t want to see the nation of Libya running red with blood. I don’t think anyone does. But at the same time, I think that whatever is going on in Libya is something that Libya has to solve on its own.
Having B.O. telling Quadaffi to leave sounds very imperialistic to me. And it begs the question of if he leaves, exactly where will he go? At this point in time, the families of Lockerbie crash are lining up to sue and claim some of Quaddaffi’s wealth – as they probably should. So, I don‘t think he’d be very welcomed here.
I hear northern Greenland is nice this time of year.

Posted on February 26, 2011 at 11:46pmTaquoshi – Good post. I think the US learned a lesson when they let Shah of Iran come here for medical treatment, although, as I recall, he left soon after to Panama. Personally, I don’t think Qaddafi will leave the country. But if he were rational, and decided to leave the country one thing is for sure: he ain’t coming here. I’m not sure that any country would take him in. That may be part of his defiance to the inevitable.
