CORONADO, Calif. (AP) — With President Barack Obama watching from midcourt, No. 1 North Carolina beat Michigan State 67-55 on Friday night in the Carrier Classic on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson.
Harrison Barnes scored 17 points and John Henson had 12 points and a career-high nine blocked shots as the Tar Heels put their size advantage to good use. Michigan State’s Draymond Green had 18 rebounds.
Fitting with the Veterans Day theme, the Tar Heels and Spartans had U.S.A. rather than their names on the back of their jerseys, which had a camouflage design. At dusk, the game was paused for the lowering of the American flag. The players gave their jerseys to servicemen after the game.
Obama watched intently, chatted with wife Michelle and service members seated near him, and at one point appeared to check his BlackBerry. When the game ended, he applauded and then shook hands with coaches Roy Williams and Tom Izzo.
North Carolina has beaten Michigan State six straight times, including in the 2009 national championship game.

Posted on November 12, 2011 at 2:15pmI think Obama will go down as one of the best Presidents this country has ever had. Several historical studies have him currently around 11th on the top list and ahead of Reagan but below Clinton. One thing this country needs to do and is starting today down in Alabama is make practicing religion illegal. If anyone is interested in attending the conferences that will be taking place starting today let me know. Religion is killing peoples minds, its like poison. Theirs nothing more dangerous than religion and those that practice it. Time to ban together and stop the madness.

In the opinion of more than half the people in this country, religious people are the most vile evil human on this planet and they need to be stopped. They’re causing so much damage to our society, we may never recover from their hurt they have put on the rest of us. Obama is our hope.

Better than Reagan but below Clinton? 11th? LOL! HA! More like 43rd…George Bush will go down when all the history is written 50 years from now as a good President.
What has Obama done to make him go down as one of the best Presidents ever? Name one thing he did better than Reagan or Clinton?
As for the game; only Obama would use what was supposed to be a celebration of our military into a political speech about his jobs bill. I turned the channel and never looked back after he started making a political speech for a college basketball game.
Get real dude…you‘ve been smoking too much crack or someone’s pole….

Posted on November 12, 2011 at 10:54amI can only imagine what the dress code was like. When the George Washington pulled into Japan, it was dress whites for everybody 2nd deck and above (the artery for foot traffic below the flight deck). Which meant for us nuclear operators that we had to look both ways along the ship for uniform patrol so we could relieve the watch.

Posted on November 12, 2011 at 9:49amI couldn’t agree with you more. We’re going to see alot more sucking up to our military before 2012.How many holidays (Memorial Day’s, etc ) has he NOT attended, but payed golf instead. He doesn’t give a damn about our men and women, just need to look at his rules of non-engagement in Afghanistan, and budget cuts. He’s now promoting jobs for vets, if he was really concerned about the lack of jobs in this country he’d stop illegal immigration, therefore opening the job market for all American citizens and reducing much of our economic burden. It’s all about his trying to be re-elected, he knows many of our service members do not like him. Let’s see if the military overseas gets to vote in 2012, or if they screw things up again and not get the nessessary forms to them in time.

Posted on November 12, 2011 at 6:54amHey Obama, quick, what do they launch planes with…catapults or arresting gear?
Report Post »Is the “tow bar” a critical part of an aircraft or is it a cozy transgender lounge in the hangar bay?
When they launch alerts, does it mean that they are testing the national alert system?
Are “sorties” planes or are they cute expressions meaning “maybe”?
Are “barricades” used to trap disabled planes or are they used to protect OWS protesters on the bow?
And lastly, does the term “ball state” refer to a planes approach position or does it mean that you, the chosen one, has arrived for a basketball game and everyone is having a ball?

Posted on November 12, 2011 at 9:19amYeah, instead of merely thanking our veterans and current military personnel for their service, he managed to make it about him and Michelle by playing up what they were doing or going to be doing legislatively for the military.
Why couldn’t he just do what is expected of a sitting president, then sit down and watch the basketball game? He used it as a campaigning opportunity to court the military vote. I suspect it didn’t work as there were no long ovations for his entrance or speech, just polite applause. These people get it.
