Obama: We Don‘t Have Enough Pipeline to Transport All the Oil We’re Producing

Before a crowd in Cushing, OK, President Obama highlighted his energy policy and touted his administration’s “approval” for a section of the Keystone XL pipeline that will connect oil fields in that state with refineries in the Gulf of Mexico, CSPAN reports.

The word “approval” is in quotation marks because, as critics point out, the president plays no role in the construction of the new pipeline. It doesn’t matter if he “approves” or not. Let us explain.

“President Obama claiming credit for speeding up the Keystone pipeline is like Al Gore saying he invented the Internet,” said Rep. John Sullivan (R-OK). “It is claiming credit where credit isn’t due.”

Sullivan explains the president only has the authority to block lines that run internationally. Therefore, because it doesn’t cross international borders, the so-called Cushing pipeline doesn’t require the president’s approval. In fact, as Sullivan notes, President Obama personally lobbied Congress to vote against the pipeline.

Now he’s taking credit?

“Under my Administration,” the president said, “America is producing more oil today than at any time in the last eight years. Over the last three years, I’ve directed my Administration to open up millions of acres for oil and gas exploration across 23 different states. We’re opening up more than 75 percent of our potential oil resources offshore. We’ve quadrupled the number of operating oil rigs to a record high.”

“And we’ve added enough new oil and gas pipeline to circle the Earth and then some,” the president added.

He continued [emphasis added]:

So we’re drilling all over the place right now. That’s not the problem. In fact, the problem in a place like Cushing is that we’re actually producing so much oil in places like North Dakota and Colorado that we don’t have enough pipeline capacity to transport it all where it needs to go. There’s a bottleneck here because we can’t get all of our oil to our refineries fast enough. If we could, it would help us increase our oil supplies at a time where we need as much as possible.

The president took the opportunity to address critics who attacked him for rejecting the original Keystone proposal, saying members of Congress “thought that this might be a fun political issue.” The president defended his decision by saying his administration required more time to “study the effects of the pipeline on the water supply.”

“[A]nyone who says that we’re somehow suppressing domestic oil production isn’t paying attention,” the president said.

“And anyone who says that just drilling more will bring gas prices down just isn’t playing it straight. We are drilling more. We are producing more. But the fact is, producing more oil at home isn’t enough to bring gas prices down overnight.”

      The Gov’s of Texas and OK approved this and are moving forward without you – Obama – you killed the Pipeline – Texas and Oklahoma does not need your approval for this Pipeline.

      The president has no say in this portion of the pipeline. The only place that needed federal approval was that portion extending 50 feet this side of the Canadian border. This was merely a campaign stop for him and was closed to the public for fear that he might get the hell booed out of him or shot. The only people invited were from his campaigning headquarters here in Oklahoma and the press. He didn‘t even invite our Governor or anyone from our state legislature because they would’ve torpedoed him on national television. This moron needs to take a long walk off a short pier with concrete anklets and bracelets. I‘m sick of him if you couldn’t tell.

      Mark my words, if he wins the re-election, there will be a revolution and it won’t be pretty. The Marines have already shown that they won’t follow his unconstitutional orders, how long before the other 4 services grow a pair?

    Oil and gold prices really havent risen in value. The dollar has lost value that is why the price has gone up. We need a president that wants to phase out and end the FED.

      Do you really believe what youwrite? The bottleneck at Cushing Is real and this portion of the Keystone will help break the bottleneck. Keystone is very much alive. Transcanada pipe is moving forward on new routes and it will be built. This the same Transcanada company that made out like bandits on the “Palin” pipeline that was canceled due to no industry support.

    Kind of a poor example to use, as it’s a classic example of Gore never having said something and then being mocked when others claimed he did. Not sure that was the point Rep. Sullivan wanted to get across.

      SCHLOCKED, Al Gore while on Carson said that he was involved with the development of the internet. When I watched this I almost fell out of my recliner laughing so hard. As I stated earlier, the Army invented/developed the internet as a communication potential should things go wrong during the Cold War. I received my first classes on the internet in my second level of NCO courses in the mid ‘80s and knew better when hearing Gore’s claims. Furthermore, I was already well aware of Gore and some of his political shenagans and claims when he was a senator from TN particularly his grilling of LTC Oliver North and his poking fun of North regarding his warnings to the Senate regarding Osama bin Laden. Yeah, back in the ’80s. Did you have your ears and head open back then? I seriously doubt that you are old enough to remember the actual FACTS from that time. Just what you read in SNOPES, a Soros sponsored organization and Wikipedia.

      Here’s an idea. I‘ve quoted the exact conversation from Wolf Blitzer’s show. I also ran a search for “Al Gore invented the internet Carson Daly” which came back with no relevant hits on the first two pages of results; not one citation, nor quote, nor clip. Nada. But you insist you heard it, and remember so well that you just about fell out of your chair. Please find it; if there is in fact a quote of Gore claiming “I invented the internet,” I will very much humbled and will apologize profusely.

      Because right now, I’m finding no evidence of your claim.
