Obama: Wis. Budget Measures Are an ‘Assault on Unions’

Early this morning we brought you a brief clip from of a local Wisconsin reporter’s interview with President Obama. In the previous clip, Obama admits that he’s not really been following the Wisconsin unrest closely. But that didn’t stop him from weighing in anyway. After Obama said he wasn‘t really paying attention he went on to say the Wisconsin governor’s emergency budget proposal is an “assault on unions”:

In part that might be true. The governor is targeting public unions, but not without cause. The state faces a $137 million budget shortfall in the fiscal year that ends June 30. Forcing state workers to contribute 5.8 percent of their salaries to their pensions starting April 1, and at least 12.6 percent toward their health care, would generate $30 million by July 1 and roughly $300 million over the next two years when combined with the other concessions.

The measure would also remove the ability for public unions to collectively bargain over those measures.

Historically Obama has a close relationship with unions. One union alone, the SEIU, donated $27.8 million to Obama’s 2008 campaign. In turn, three local chapters of that union have received Obamacare waivers.

The full, local interview can be seen here.

Remember when the most unqualified president in US history held that sham of a roundtable with Republican leaders before the health care debacle passed? Hmmmm……what did he say again??? Oh, yeah, I remember…..”Elections have consequences.”

There’s nothing more unproductive than a progressive. There’s nothing more unproductive and annoying than a sniveling progressive.

That’s exactly what he is saying, and he isn’t kidding anyone about not paying attention. He and his minions are who is organizing the revolt. I guess he thinks we are stupid. He states that he doesn’t have all of the facts and then he weighs in. That is when you realize his real feelings about an issue regardless of the facts.

i always love videos where they talk about the problems…which i believe are there…but really offer no real way as to go about changing…the same are of videos i watch about ancient history dragging you along as if they have answers when they leave you with nothing but questions…kind of like government bringing issues to light only to ignore looking for real solutions…or pharmaceutical companies instead of finding cures which are definately out there to be had…just create drugs that may or may not curb the problems they are designed to pacify…yet leave you with other problems or side-effects…all this just leaves are questions and no real answers as to how to make things really happen.

The teacher’s unions have destroyed the education system in this country and at the same time are getting ridiculous, unsustainable pensions. In WI, they aren’t even threatening to lower pay, they are just saying you have to contribute more to the plans the union negotiated if you want them. That is exactly what every other private sector employee in the country has to do. However, we also get to subsidize the public sector plans as well. If anyone has a right to be pissed off, its the people footing the bill, not the people at the state house in Madison.

Public employees should never have been, nor ever should be, allowed to unionize. It’s an absolute scam on the tax payer.

The thing that makes the most sense is to break the unions and let each individual bargain and negotiate on the merits of the job they are doing. My guess is there would be a lot better employees and a lot less tax burden on the public. Collective bargaining is never good for the individual, but nearly always is good for union leaders and politicians. Unions are a cancer that continually grows on our society.

A lot of public employees are our friends, it’s true. And we appreciate them for the work they do.

But in their capacity as public workers, their job is to serve the people, not the other way around. Government is a necessary evil, and in our Constitutional Republic, the people get to decide how necessary certain public jobs are.

And when the public sector crowds out the private sector, especially with Union assistance, then the public sector is destroying the people’s ability to shape the economy – which ability it is the government’s job to protect.

The people shape the economy, not government.

      13thGenerationAmerican,

The difference is that churches do not force you to be involved with charity, or to involve yourself in humanitarian causes. It remains your right to involve yourself in whatever cause you choose, if any. Not so with the forced, humanitarian church of the state (US government entitlement projects).

Most of my life, Gov Union members have always bragged to me about how working for the Gov is so great, the best benefits, pensions, yearly raises…. Now that they are asked to cut back, like the rest of us have, they flip out…. I have no sympathy for them… People are waiting for their jobs, with half the benefits and salaries….. They should feel lucky to have a job

This is one reason why Obama doesn’t want unemployment to go down. It allows for people to go out and protest and eventually riot.
People with jobs can’t do the ongoing protests such as in Egypt. Obama wants these protests and he wants them to escalate.

A union is a free association of individuals; individuals have the right to form organizations for any lawful purpose. The assault on freedom occurs when the union is given a monopoly, enforced by the government, with a license to initiate the use of force against the employer. http://commonsense21c.com/

It is moronic to have “public sector union” to begin with. Public sector means they work for the people of this nation. If they want a union then they should join the private sector. Working for the public is at the public’s discretion. If we need to reduce their pay or their benefits or their numbers it is up to us, the public, and not up to a union. Get real….

The other choice, the Gov. said if not he’d have to let many people go. So, which is worse? Contribute to your OWN retirement and your OWN healthcare and have a job. (Or lose it all.) I have only a few questions…why are public employees even allowed to unionize? Seriously. If they go on strike…who suffers? If they demand more money…from whom are they demanding it? If they was a cushy retirement..who pays for it? If they want tenure…who loses their ability to fire them if they don’t do their job well? Who do you think is their boss? The irony of seeing union members protesting like this is the fact that these very people help pay for their own salaries and benefits…yes…that’s right…through their own taxes. They are essentially doing nothing but fighting against the very people who make their jobs possible and the only people who benefit are the union bosses and the politicians supported by those union bosses.

My anger at what’s happening in Wis. is beyond the pale. Now to have Obama come on and tell us how hard all these union teachers, etc. work ===what does he think the rest of of do? Most of us who aren’t drawing welfare work pretty darn hard on jobs that require a lot of our efforts as well. I’ve known many teachers and some are excellent, some are good enough, and some are the scum of the pond just drawing their pay waiting for retirement, so don‘t give me your teleprompter’s speech about how hard anyone works. My beef is the unfairness and unwillingness of these spoiled teachers
to share some of the painful cuts that are necessary. They must be saying, let all those non-union jerks pay my share, I‘m too important and they don’t work as hard as I do, says our Prez.

Unions are parasites, which primarily benefit parasitic employees. Good, productive employees don’t need unions. They will always be in demand.

And, unions are bad enough in the private sector, where the realities of the market place some limits on what unions can extort from the employer. They have no place in the public sector, where governments simply confiscate more money from taxpayers to pay their employees.

More and more, we have government of the parasites, by the parasites, and for the parasites.

Besides firefighters and police officers who put their lives on the line everyday, other public service jobs are no different than private business jobs. Maybe one of the progressive trolls who frequent The Blaze would like to spell out what the difference is, I would love to hear it. In fact, I would argue that private business employees work harder, and do more than public service employees. So public service employees, guess what?, it is time to pay your fair share.
