Obamacare-Funded Health Centers Won’t Ask Citizenship Status

Under Obama’s health care law, the Department of Health and Human Services plans to hand out money to local health centers specifically targeted to serve communities where illegal immigrants are likely to be a considerable percentage of those receiving care.Obamacare Funded Health Centers Wont Ask Citizenship Status

CNS News reports that HHS plans to distribute $28.8 million to 67 health centers, with $8.5 million specifically designated for health centers focused on serving the migrant farm worker community.

As a matter of policy, citizenship status will be neither asked nor given at the centers. Judy Andrews, a spokeswoman for the Health Resources and Services Administration had this to say about the federal healthcare grants:

“The Program’s authorizing statute does not affirmatively address immigration status, rather, it simply states that health centers are required to provide primary health care to all residents of the health center’s service area without regard for ability to pay.

Health centers do not, as a matter of routine practice, ask about or collect data on citizenship or other matters not related to the treatment needs of the patients seeking health services at the center.”

This begs the question: what are we to think of President Obama’s promise in 2009 that Obamacare would not provide care for undocumented workers? As the President then stated it, “The reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.”  If nobody asks, how can the President know if that’s true?

As you recall, Obama’s presidential proclamation was followed by an outburst from Representative Joe Wilson (R- South Carolina), who differed quite strongly — and publicly said “You lie!” — with Obama. Wilson was later forced to apologize for that outburst.

Now that we know Obamacare dollars are going to health centers specifically to give free care to migrant farm labor, and according to Pew 25 % of migrant farm labor is undocumented and Hispanic, are we ready to say that Rep. Wilson (decorum notwithstanding) may have won out on the facts?

It would seem logical that if Obamacare dollars are going to explicitly citizenship-blind centers at this stag of the game, when few of the massive Obamacare regulations have come into play, then the number of illegal immigrants covered by Obamacare will only expand with time. In federal government terms, $28 million is not a lot of money, but once the precedent is established, what is to stop hundreds of millions from going to similar centers over time?

      Not to worry! Come 2012, obamacare is the first on the list to be repealed and replaced.

      BHO and minions will be hating what their grandchildren, ad infinitum, will be reading about them in future American History Books. How Americans, via a grassroots movement called The Tea Party, derailed the BHO trainwreck and left it in shambles and its perps in shame.

    God is Obama’s judge, not us. In a way, I feel bad for him. Can you imagine being him and having to stand before your Creator, knowing all the lies told while in power? Yikes.
    This is, of course, after he gets his behind kicked out of office, either by impeachment or landslide conservative victory. I won‘t feel bad for him while he’s on the earth and everybody regards him as a pariah.

    lots of people confused. Old man I know told me — Makes about 1300 on SS — Medicare and prescription insurance costs him about 95.00 bucks out of check. The supplemental insurance costs him another 239.00 bucks per month. That alone eats up over twenty percent of his SS check. Then he has home insurance as well as car insurance as well as his yearly eye care and teeth care. The question here is – when does all of this stop? How can the people on unemployment afford to live? Sooner or later they are going to grow old just like this man I’m talking about. When these guys get old how are they going to make it ? Most won’t even have a SS check.

      Why wouldn’t someone save for their own retirement? Why would anyone rely solely on the government to take care of them in their old age? Obviously, that’s not a good plan. What about self-reliance…taking care of oneself? Relying on anyone else, much less the government, is the LAST thing I’d ever think of.

      CONSERVATIVEMOM99, that sounds so simple doesn’t it? however, some of us aren‘t able to save for retirement because we get laid off before we’re vested in the company, so they keep the pensions we’ve earned. plus, we can‘t put anything additional away for retirement because we’re paying off debts accrued from the LAST time we were unemployed due to layoff. that’s my story. i have NOTHING for retirement and it’s NOT MY FAULT. i’ve done most everything right and i still have NOTHING to show for it. suggestions?

      This is where the family comes into place. We have grown used to just putting our parents and grandparents into retirement facilities and old folks homes. This is a passive and ridiculous way to pass off responsibility. I understand that some people outlive most of their family but the vast majority have children or grandchildren. Historically, the responsibility of care passes on to the next of kin. We as spoiled Americans too often fail in our responsibilities. For me and my family, we‘ve already decided that once mom and dad can’t live without help, that they will move in. Sure sounds old school. And it is. Thats the way it used to be. As with most things in todays world, we should look back at what our parents, grandparents, and their parents did… thats how we fix things.

      Sorry to be the one to say this but tax dollars have gone to healthcare for illegals for over a decade!! I know this because I work for a community health center that gets about 50% funding fro the govt and we have migrant clinics that are funded 100% and the govt knows beyond a shadow of a doubt they are illegal. They dont have to show ID and we cant ask for payment or any other questions that might offend them. This is just wrong!! I work outside the clinical side of the business and our division is not funded by our tax dollars

      I would expect better from someone who says they worked in this field. “Them”? That law protects more Americans that illegals. Out of the 46million uninsured in this country just over 9 million are illegals.

    Why the hell are we building health centers? Every city, every county in the nation has multiple free public clinics already, we don’t need any more, maybe more advertising as where they are, or transportation for the truly needed.

      Obama has got to go. I’ve had enough of this insanity. Our country is going to h*** and we are building health clinics for illegals to use along with giving them free education, instate tuition, welfare checks, and a fast track to citizenship. Obama will be the downfall of our country if he is not voted out. He should be impeached now.
