Obama‘s Approval Rating Finally Drops Below Carter’s: Worst of Any President at This Stage of His Term

President Barack Obama Has Worse Job Approval Rating Than Jimmy Carter

It’s been a slow, steady decline but President Barack Obama‘s job approval rating has finally dipped below Jimmy Carter’s, earning Obama the worst approval rating of any president at this stage of his term in modern history.

Gallup’s daily presidential job approval index put the current president‘s job approval rating at 43 percent compared to Carter’s 51 percent.

US News adds:

Back in 1979, Carter was far below Obama until the Iran hostage crisis, eerily being duplicated in Tehran today with Iranian protesters storming the British embassy. The early days of the crisis helped Carter’s ratings, though his failure to win the release of captured Americans, coupled with a bad economy, led to his defeat by Ronald Reagan in 1980.

According to Gallup, here are the job approval numbers for other presidents at this stage of their terms, a year before the re-election campaign:

– Harry S. Truman: 54 percent.

– Dwight Eisenhower: 78 percent.

– Lyndon B. Johnson: 44 percent.

– Richard M. Nixon: 50 percent.

– Ronald Reagan: 54 percent.

– George H.W. Bush: 52 percent.

– Bill Clinton: 51 percent.

– George W. Bush: 55 percent.

To make matters worse, Gallup reports that Obama’s overall job approval rating ranks among the worst in American political history, averaging 49 percent. Only three former presidents have had a worse average rating at this stage: Carter, Ford, and Harry S. Truman.

It might also be worth noting that no president in history, save the unpopular Truman, won re-election with such ratings. And, as U.S. News points out, Truman did so by running an anti-Congress campaign that Obama’s team is using as a model.

Strangely, the current climate in Iran is eerily similar to what it was when Carter held the highest office in the land.

    Obama could not care less. He is so arrogant he won’t pay any attention to how this country feels about him. I am surprised his numbers haven’t fallen out the door. He is a disaster and I believe this election year is going to show the real side of him.

      I agree with 9635KARI. The only reason Obummer likes being President is because of all the perks, privileges, and attention he gets. He don’t even like America, just like Jeremiah Wright, and couldn’t care less what happens to it. I think history will show he’s nothing but a charlatan.

      YOU HAVE VERY GOOD REASON TO THINK THIS. OBAMA’S THUGS WILL STEAL THE 2012 ELECTION FOR HIM. Not only de we have the usual dead-folks voting for Democrats, or people voting more than once, we will have a something more ominous to deal with this time.
      Too many Anti-American groups and Orgs think they are very close to collapsing this country and they have a lot invested in Obama. So they will be doing the following…
      Poll Watchers are one way we try to keep cheating at the polls down to a minimum, but Obama’s Civilian Thug Army will be stationed at polling places to keep Poll Watchers from doing their job. My experience has been in the past that many Poll Watchers are elderly or at least over 55. All Obama’s Thugs need to do is intimidate the Poll Watcher when they show-up for work that day and scare them off. And the Cops won’t be willing to help in most cases because they know that the head lawman, Eric Holder, has given a greenlight because of what happened in 2008 in Philly. Intimidation by Obama’s Thugs this time around will play a HUGE part of the 2012 election!

      Of course there will be voter fraud, there was an article last month about how easy it was to tamper with the electronic voting machines. I forget the names of the companies that build them, however, I do know their employees are SEIU union members. I don’t suppose its a far stretch to say, they got Obama’s back. How much you wanna bet their will be numerous voting machines that malfunction. Remember the stories in Nevada, how the machine already had Harry Reids name checked automatically.

      @PatriotDave, I fear you may be right, especially when there were almost no serious legal actions or prosecutions after the last election. I do believe that between the media and unions alone, BO is practically a shoe in for re-election. There is too much at stake for the domocratic party. If Republicans win the White House, the Senate and increase margins in the House, the economy will boom on confidence alone. The DNC will be dead. There will be at least 16 years of growth and prosperity.

He probably considers a lower approval than Carters a compliment anyway, it means his radical agenda is in full effect!!       He and his spin doctors know all they need to say is” the President has been working hard for you after all the damage the banks and evil corporations have done to America.       I expect there will be voter fraud everywhere. It will be important for conservatives to volunteer to be poll watchers at area voting booths. Let’s not forget the debacle that took place in MN during the 2010 elections when group home workers took mentally challenged residents to the voting booths and voted for them. This kind of thing is going to take place everywhere I suspect. I am sure the “purple shirts” will be out in full numbers the day of election intimidating and scaring voters and the police will look the other way. I hope not!

      Don’t worry folks, obama will take care of our debt, to China and a few others – looking like a hero. Most folks know that we the Goverment own over half of the land in the USA. Around August obama will swap the 90% of Utah we own to China along with what we own in Nevada for our 2 trillion $$$ we owe them. This is a win – win for us. Obama will be re-eleccted and China can lower the cost of their products because they will just bring the workers over to their new land. China will be able to start mining – no EPA, no rules or regulations. All that gold, silver and rare earth minerals will finally be able to be used.

      MN is going down faster than any State in the union! Right now the unions are trying to get all daycare providers to unionize. It is a huge deal. There is a rally at the State Capitol in St. Paul, MN at noon this Saturday to try to stop this. Can you imagine? The evil mind bending lies instilled into the most pliable minds??? Election Corruption in this State and is enormous. The RNC is weak…NO MONEY to fight any of this. The legislture passed voter ID and Governor Dayton vetoed Voter ID. Governor Dayton is mentally unstable and should be tested for prescription drugs use. HUGE LIBERAL corruption has been going on here for years and years. MN has the highest per capita gay population of all States and the MN Marrige Protection Amendments will be on the ballot in the 2012 election…if there is an election. MN is a TEST STATE for every freedom stealing law in the country. I was a poll watcher 2010 mid-terms and because I was there….no buses came in that day from the area low income highrise; the day before, when I voted at the city office i spoke up loudly that i expected a CLEAN ELECTION at that’s why I was there. But, they were ready to bus them in incase i did not show up…Someone from the high rise came in and said….”We have everyone in the lobby waiting for the bus…The guy spoken to said “We are not doing the buses this year”. The high rise is mostly mentally challanged people and would have needed someone to fill out their ballots.

    Just for entertainment reasons i was looking at Obama inauguration day, the media actually called it “WOODSTOCK WITHOUT THE MUD” people were actually crying for joy like as if he was the 2nd coming, just like they did for Hitler, the crowd was exactly the same as the crowds in Nazi Germany, VERY VERY VERY PATHETIC….. and part of his speech he stated he was born on Krypton,,,,,

      I remember that day. I went to work at a “middle” school to do Occupational Therapy with some students with autism. None of them were avalilable to me because the school suspended classes and herded all of the students in front of television sets to watch the inauguration. I caught glimpses of it on a 6 foot screen and had a really bad feeling. My instincts turned out to be correct. It is too bad he turned out to be such a lying, self-serving jerk. He could have done great things for the country. Instead we are at each others throats and on the verge of ruin.

      Avengerk, I wish Obama did nothing. Then the free markets could have healed the economy on its own (were it not for the mess of Europe). Instead, Obama was busy redistributing wealth (remember Cash-for-Clunkers, Cash-for-Caulkers, $8k First-Time-Home Buyer credit which only caused home prices to inflate by $8k while it was in effect) and distributing money to his cronies (auto unions, Green company investors, Obamacare, etc.), taking the nation further down the road to socialism (nationalizing or effectively nationalizing student loan, banking, and healthcare industries) and getting us involved in two more wars where we have no interests (Libya, Uganda), persecuting American companies (e.g. Gibson Guitar), waging class warfare (supporting OWS, attacking Tea Party, trying to turn the people against “Fat Cats”, etc), etc. That doesn’t sound like do nothing to me. He seemed to be pretty busy.

      I hear some people speculate Obama might declare a national emergency. I think he might be tempted but I don’t think he would do it. If he did, all hell would break loose and it would really become a national emergency. The people would not stand for it. I am fairly sure the people (I am talking about the 53 percenters, not the so-called 99%ers) will not stand for it. Obama might seem like an idiot at times, but I don’t think he could be that stupid.

    Please! obama has had a lower rating than Carter for a long time. Locally, obama’ name brings instant vitriol even from his previous supporters. Polls aren‘t necessarily the best way to ’detect’ an unsettled base.

      When I talk to someone who thinks Obama walks on water…I always ask them to tell me EXACTLY why they support him and EXACTLY how he has helped the country. They always answer with the broad, vague talking points. When I press them for specifics, the answers I get from 98% of them is hemming & hawing and uh, uh, well…um, you know… They have absolutely no idea or understanding of what’s happening in our country. Sad, scary and hilarious all at the same time.

      Those who only read the NYTimes or only the liberal press…or don’t read at all…just vote color. I know people with PHD‘s from Harvard who think he’s great and refuse to read, hear, or study anything until a month before the election.

      The last 30 years eh? Let’s call it 1980. 8 years of Reagan. 4 years of Bush 1. 8 years of Bush 2. That’s 20 years of Repub prezzes. 8 years of Clinton in which there was peace and prosperity upon the land. Congressional control slit pretty much down the middle.

      His poor approval rating doesn’t make it so easy for him to lose as it might seem. I took a look at the demographic numbers of the 2008 election and Obama actually lost the white vote by a good margin (43% Obama, 55% McCain, source NY Times), yet beat McCain in the overall vote by 7 percentage points because he had VERY strong minority support.

      I did some calculations. If Obama gets no worse minority support as he did in 2008, he could still win with as little as 35% white support. If Ron Paul were to run as a third party, he is certain to take more away from the Republican candidate than Obama.

      I am not trying to get into race politics here. I am just looking at the 2008 numbers and speculating about 2012. In case anyone wants to accuse me of being a white racist, let’s just say that I have never been accused of being white or racist.
