Obamas Go to First Church Service Since Easter

(AP) — President Barack Obama and his family attended an hourlong service Sunday morning at a church just across the street from the White House.

Accompanied by his wife, Michelle, and their daughters, Malia and Sasha, Obama strolled across Lafayette Square to attend St. John’s Church. Sasha held her father’s hand as they crossed the park.

Obama has attended the pale yellow Episcopal church three times previously, as well as other churches in the nation’s capital.

A pew nine rows back from the altar at St. John’s carries a small brass plaque designating it as “The President’s Pew.” Church history claims that every president since the nation’s fourth chief executive, James Madison, has visited.

::;thats funny::: but I do see what you are saying…my daughter and her freinds are taking goverment at school and the teacher is as qualified to teach anything as I am qualified to coac football… It‘s intersting to talk to these kids as they mostly repeat what they have heard their parents say and it’s much like what you just typed. I do my best to educate them properly on most matters but it’s hard when they get such crossed messages.

I have to stand corrected. The new picture from the side reflects that the First Ladies dress is in fact longer and that its the oldest daughter holding hands with Daddy.

My apalogy on the mix up but now that we have that sorted out, what kind of parents let their kids go to church in a dress that short?

Either godless communists or satan worshippers. If it was up to me, rather than spending all this money on political campaigns, we would hire skirt monitors (women only, of course) to measure the distance between skirt hem and kneecap. More than 2 inches, and you can’t go in the church, you can’t go within 100 yards of a church, and you can’t look like you might be thinking about God or salvation because someone might think you are planning on going to church.

      rogue, The Elitist Aim
AMERICA4EVER ‘circle the wagons’ 12:17 post

Do not worry about the ‘bigger target.’ When Progressives circle wagons, because of major internal trouble, it is an offense strategy. Alinsky Rules demand they stand on the outside of the wagons and aim across the circle, at each other. They have finally realized the WH is up for grabs in 12. It is going to be a strange month and a half, followed by an even stranger 3 months, followed by an exceptionally weird 2 more years. The art of self destruction will see staggeringly new escapades. It is best to stay well back, out of range. Besides, it is well past time to turn focus on Restoring America leaving the Progressive circular firing squad to their dust. They did not have the answers, they never do and they never will.

And to ignoranceisstrength, let me suggest, trying to sum up the diversity known in America, or even this tiny slice of it, is arrogant foolishness that will make you a big target, when your friends circle. Obviously, you are unable to maturely handle the diversity found here, and appreciate the many slants and even rejoice in the engaged openness. To the contrary, you feel compelled to weave numerous threads into a grotesque mask betraying your own sinister focus. Wildly, you splash minimal amusement, but your substantive counter never arrives, widely.

What wonderful, Christian comments. So endorsing of the Golden Rule! The Obamas went to a D.C. church for the first time since Easter, apparently, the President prefers the quiet, small services of the military chaplains associated with Camp David. But, then, given how much his church attendance has been scrutinized, why shouldn’t he. The First Lady is wearing a skirt just above her knees. Her daughter’s is shorter, but then teens often dress that way. I see nothing wrong with the First Family’s behavior. Now, now of you seemed to mind that Presidents Reagan and Bush failed to attend church while they were in office. President Reagan wanted to bring prayer back into the schools, despite it being un-Constitutional, and proclaimed the year of the Bible, but he couldn ‘t be bothered to go to church. President Bush used his religion as a screening tool on his staffers. There were reports in his first Adminstration where staffers felt compelled to join Bible studies in the West Wing. I may only be a Liberal, but my Constitution says that religious tests are never to be given for elected offices and other public trusts, Article Six, if you don’t beleive me.

      @desertrose1960
Quoting you desertrose1960 “Now, now of you seemed to mind that Presidents Reagan and Bush failed to attend church while they were in office.”
With whether Ronald Reagan went to church while in office he did not go…because…of security reasons. http://home.comcast.net/~sharonday7/Presidents/AP060305.htm this was the only place that I could find some facts of why Ronald Reagan did not go to church. But he was a Presbyterian. Ronald Reagan identified himself as a Presbyterian during most of his adult life.
      http://www.adherents.com/people/pr/Ronald_Reagan.html

President Bush was a Methodist, but I could not find true facts whether or not Bush attended church while serving in the white house.
“Though he was raised in Presbyterian and Episcopalian churches, Mr. Bush has been an active Methodist since quitting alcohol and finding God in 1985; he and his wife have taught Sunday school at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, and since taking office as governor of Texas Bush has worshiped at the Tarrytown United Methodist Church in Austin.”
      http://www.adherents.com/people/pb/George_W_Bush.html

So please inform us as to where it is said in an article on-line that neither President’s Ronald Reagan and President Bush did not go to church while in the white house. I know I already stated my facts that I found now it’s your turn…

Quoting desertrose1960 “President Reagan wanted to bring prayer back into the schools, despite it being un-Constitutional, and proclaimed the year of the Bible, but he couldn ‘t be bothered to go to church.
Your statement that prayer in schools is “un-Constitutional” is based on a court decision not on the Constitution. BIG DIFFERENCE.
      Text

“All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

”Those rulings were two landmark Supreme Court decisions, Engel v. Vitale (1962) and Abington School District v. Schempp (1963) (which included the well publicised case of Murray v. Curlett), establishing the current prohibition on state-sponsored prayer in schools.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_prayer

President Bush used his religion as a screening tool on his staffers. There were reports in his first Adminstration where staffers felt compelled to join Bible studies in the West Wing. I may only be a Liberal, but my Constitution says that religious tests are never to be given for elected offices and other public trusts, Article Six, if you don’t beleive me.”

I took heart this year while watching the superbowl. Why, you might ask, what has that got to do with this conversation? Was it just my wishful thinking, or were an amazing amount of people, when The Who was singing “Won’t Get Fooled Again” SCREAMING the words, “We won’t get fooled again” at the top of their lungs? I noticed it, ( and I am usually oblivious to what’s going on while there is football on the TV), and my phone absolutely lit up with my friends texting me,”did you hear that just now?” Certainly all the people there at the superbowl weren’t conservatives. It was my “sign from God” that He is in charge and that America will be saved from the America Hater In Chief. LOL God Bless America INDEED!!!

      @ adifftake

      OK, he’s going to church.

for the first time since April.

as his party is being shown as simply trying to calculate HOW BADLY they will be crushed in two months.

mere hours after he himself made a blatant gaffe/omission/whatever re: one of the fundamental deistic statements in our founding documents.

soooo, yeah, we’re gonna criticize because by the weight of the evidence it looks like a blatant ploy, nothing more.

/FYI I had my “saving moment” at my house, many years ago, not in a pew. I’ve been in a service the vast majority of Sundays in the decades since — “let us not give up meeting together as some have done” etc. etc. — so stow the self-righteousness, ‘k?

Hey, maybe the Obamas have seen the light(s)—on the front of all of the 8/28 busses pulling into DC. Too little, too late, dude. I only hope he didn’t steal anything from the collection. The only thing genuine about these people is the fact that they are sincerely phony. They make a chameleon seem monochromatic.

says in the koran (scattered in tatters out in the slop of our all-American farm hog pen) that if a Christian should ask a muslim if he is a Christian, the muslim should LIE and say he IS. obama is not fooling any REAL AMERICANS. . Wright’s church was not “Christian”, but it was tax-exempt.

just wait til at some point obama “finds his true faith, that one of his happy indonesian childhood” and announces he is converting to islam. then the prayer rug in the Resolute Desk drawer can come out.

You know what I have to agree with the other post! I think this was a weak attempt to try and salvage his reputation with the voters. Let him go to church every Sunday for a year and I might think he is sincere? Who knows if he goes to church enough he might start to actually believe Jesus is the SON of GOD…..

I have to say the nasty remarks about the first lady does not make anyone look good! I don’t care what she wears on the outside what matters is what is on the inside… Don’t fall into liberal tactics by bashing with name calling. I also do not like their politics and that is what we should focus on, not their looks! =)
