Obama’s Chief of Staff: It‘s Been ’Brutal,‘ ’Ungodly,‘ We Need to ’Push the Envelope!’…& ‘F**k’

Bill Daley Gives Candid Interview to Poltico: Push the Envelope!

AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka, right, with WH chief of staff Bill Daley and President Barack Obama (AP)

Obama’s new (sort of) chief of staff, Bill Daley, sat down with Politico for an exclusive interview. And boy did he deliver. The political veteran didn‘t hold back when talking about Obama’s first three years, the deplorable poll numbers, and especially Obama’s plans to circumvent Congress.

For starters, when it comes to the first three years of Obama’s presidency, Daley called the period “brutal” and “ungodly.”

“It’s been a brutal three years,” he explained. “It’s been a very, very difficult three years, an incredible three years. And we are doing all this under the overhang of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. F—k! It wasn’t like all this was happening in good times.”

There’s more.

“Considering the debacle that he came in with, the tough choices he’s made and how there have been few, if any breaks, he says it himself all the time,” Daley said . “He doesn’t know why he’s as high as 44 percent.”

That was supposed to be a joke.

And then there’s the plan on running an end-around on Congress. Daley was very candid about that:

“On the domestic side, both Democrats and Republicans have really made it very difficult for the president to be anything like a chief executive,” Daley says. “This has led to a kind of frustration.”

The president’s solution? “Let’s figure out what we can do [without Congress] and push the envelope on some of these things,” Daley says.

Daley recognizes that there are three branches of government and the president leads only one of them, but now is the time for him to flex his muscles and show what he can do without the squabbling, ineffective — and far less popular than even he — Congress.

“On the foreign policy-military side, you can act pretty quickly,” Daley says. “That is why the president, based upon frustration, is doing this ‘we can’t wait.’ He is going to every agency, every department, and saying, ‘What can you do on your own? What can we not have to wait for legislation to do?’ ”

Daley slaps one hand into the other with a sharp crack. “Let’s re-emphasize what powers we have! What we can do on our own! Push the envelope!”

Which is why the president has recently announced new plans to refinance homes, ease the debt burden of some college students and fast-track former military medics into private-sector hospital jobs.

Congress? He don’t need no stinkin’ Congress! There is an obvious downside: Both Democrats and Republicans in Congress soon will grow furious over this. But that is for the future. Obama has to address the here and now, and Congress is getting in the way of that.

“We are trying to do something in this modern presidency that has been very much engulfed by the legislative process, Democrat and Republican, over the last 40 years,” Daley says.

Instead of continuing to butt heads with Congress, the White House is going to turn its back on it when it can. (“Whether it will rise to the level of building a dam without going to Congress, that’s not realistic,” Daley says.)

To be fair, the executive branch does have powers the others don’t. But has that ever been flaunted, or combed through, like Daley is suggesting?

Either way, Daley‘s preparing for what’s ahead.

“You can just feel this electorate is very volatile. So strap yourself in.”

0bama is paving that road to Hell…but, he has good intentions. (Note the sarcasm) Talk about a do nothing C0ngress! Boehner should be out there doing everything he can to expose this administration instead of quietly sitting back allowing this country to go to Hell. It’s about time for Ohio to dump him next year and put in a real conservative! John Kasich comes to mind. But, he is currently doing a good job of cleaning up some of the Dem’s messes in that state.

You said it. As mad as I can get about Obama, I get even madder at congress. It is their job to stop this mad man! They should have impeached him by now. It is their job to protect our constitution and make sure Obama and his administration cannot shred it. I know they think the senate would never follow through, but they can bog him down a lot more than they are doing! They are not sending any message at all to the nation that they are willing to protect us. Instead, it is this passive/aggressive political pontificating. Get ‘em all out of there next year.

I wish I could vote against Boehner, or run against him, but the man isn’t in my district. However, I do live just down the road from John Kasich, in fact have spoken to him face to face many times over the last decade in an informal “our kids at the same activity” way. Great guy, and if you don’t want to know his position on things, you best not ask him! :)

Speaking of Ohio, I heard Beck say he was in Columbus Ohio today. Does anybody know where precisely, or why? It would be great to take some time to go and say “hi”.

As to Daley, well, credit him for being bluntly honest…I guess.

I don’t care how in love you are with your US Senators, THEY ARE THE PROBLEM!Do you even know their hours? Maybe 3 days a week, MAYBE. The senate is an old boys club riddled with ruling class elites who all socialize together on the same party circuit. For all the good work the US HOUSEhas done, NONE of it has made it to the senate floor.

CHANGE MUST BE MADE IN THE SENATE AND THE WHITE HOUSE for us to get our country back. THE US SENATE WAS NOT DESIGNED BY OUR FOUNDERS TO BE A 40 YEAR CAREER. Our government was designed for public servants who execute the will of the people—NOT A ‘RULING CLASS WHO BELIEVES THEY ARE OH SO MUCH SMARTER THAN THE VOTERS.

Finally, we cannot afford to elect either another elite, ROMNEY, nor a squirrel, CAIN, to the WH. The BEST statesman available is Newt Gingrich. He is well founded in history and the Constitution and fully understands the will of the people. NEWT CAN DEBATE AND DEFEAT OBAMA. He will immediately undo the executive orders that the current Marxist regime has issued to set us back as a people and a capitalist society.
If we give Newt a Conservative Senate, we can reestablish the United States of America as the leader of the free world and the shining city on the hill envisioned by Reagan.

Here is the problem my fellow conservatives. When you cheer on constitutional violations like the patriot act or the killing of citizen-“terrorists” but use it to stop Obama-care or any other violations that are about to transpire then your argument cannot be it’s “unconstitutional”. It is hypocrisy of the highest order.

If you are going to wrap yourself in the constitution, then don’t base your decisions on how you “feeeeel” about a bill or law proposed by a fellow conservative – hold it up to the constitution and see if it is legal regardless who sponsors it.

We need representatives in the legislative and executive branch that come in with a bat to repeal laws, not pass them. We don’t need someone coming in adding to the “laws”. We need repeals.

They are hoping we do something to give them an excuse to “deal” with us and strip away even more of our rights. Why give them what they want? We win by our commitment to replace those who are destroying this country, through the ballot box. Then we can hold them accountable in a court of law. Their corruption is no longer dripping through the cracks, but is now flowing out, and soon will be a gushing torrent. They will become more and more confident which will result in more mistakes. Let’s not play into their hand with our impatience. Have you never played poker? They are in a hurry now, more than ever. They view themselves as above the law. NOT! In my own experience, I’ve noticed, given enough rope, the corrupt and dishonest, hang themselves. Be grateful they are under pressure now….it will happen more quickly.

This is sickening. The only truth to come out of his mouth is that Obama & regime are going to do everything possible to get their way without Congress b/c they know they probably have a short time left. And btw most don’t believe that “44%” approval — my guess the more correct number is even lower (and he knows it) – another reason they’re so desperate – and it‘s probably more like down in the 30’s…and even THAT is too high!

Everyone wants to invoke the Constitution. It’s silly. I have a question, when states make laws that basically outlaw abortion, are they shredding the constitution? The answer is no. They are testing the limits of the Constitution. Because it was written a long time ago and is not perfectly clear on all subjects, it requires interpretation from time to time. The president is not shredding it either…when he does something that he is not clearly empowered to do, he is testing it.

Actually, the Founding Fathers used the words interchangably. You can say that a republic chooses a few members to represent the people, whereas a democracy has everyones input, but doesn’t the Declaration of Independence say that we are all created equal? I could also point our that “republic” sounds closer to “Republican” which is a good thing on this site, versus “democracy” which sounds suspiciously like the all-evil “Democrats”, the oldest political party in the nation, tracing its ancestory to Thomas Jefferson.
There are no kings in a democracy. Obama doesn’t wish to be a king. But he would like to get some things done that help the American people and the Republican run House is too busy outlawing Federal funds for abortion, yet again, and trying to make Gay marriage unconstitutional, that it is neglecting its duties on domestic issues.
If you want to talk about an imperial President, why don’t you look at George W. Bush‘s record and Dick Cheney’s thoughts on the Unitary Executive and then research all the “Signing Statements” issued under their administration. Oh, and don’t forget, your friendly Republican party in the Senate has gone around the simple majority and now requires a vote of 60+ to pass anything, so effective is their use of the filibuster. Talk about arrogance and abuse of power, there why don’t you.

@Avengerk, the banks weren’t “forced” to make loans that led to the Housing Bubble crisis, most of the default loans were made by companies like Countrywide and others. There was some force on the part of the Bush Administration to make FANNIE MAE and FREDDIE MAC to buy up the bad paper. Also, CDOs, Collateralized Debt Obligations, bets on failures, and loan bundling were the reason there was a crisis. That and the 1999 repeal of Glass-Steagall, which tore down the walls between investment banks and deposit banks. A lot of the big banks are sitting on huge amounts of money that they got from taxpayers to help taxpayers, and they are refusing to renegotiate home loans for people who are underwater. For these people, it has taken years to get banks to even talk to them, and they are offered lower interest, not written down principle as the solution. The only person who loses is the homeowner, they have lost their equity, they have lost their downpayment, and in some cases, they lose the house because there is no communication between departments within the bank holding the mortgage. Keep up the good work, you might convince the sheep that you can read as well as the pigs.

@Ghost, sorry, I don’t clench my fists or cry crocodile tears, nor do I wear Che Guevarra shirts. I’m just a middle aged, Middle Class matron in khakis and penny loafers, if you passed me on the street, you wouldn’t even notice me. And no, Obama didn’t have free reign in the 111th. There

@Ghost, And no, Obama didn’t have free reign in the 111th. There was a lot of stalling by the Blue Dog/fiscal conservative Democrats and record setting filibusters by the Republican minority in the Senate. Still, Nancy Pelosi never lost a vote and she got a large amount of legislation through the House. The 2010 election replaced most of the Blue Dogs with Republicans. Very few Liberals lost their seats, the notable exception being Russ Feingold.

Presidential candidates now have “legal standing” to file a lawsuit against Obama and the DNC, alleging fraud and failure to qualify as a natural born citizen, meaning born in the US to TWO US citizen parents, as required of the President by the Constitution, or be dismissed as untrustworthy!

Constitution, Art. 2, Sec. 1, “No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible … .”

Exempting a “citizen” from being a “natural born citizen” proves they aren’t equal, or no exemption was needed. Being not less than nor equal, a NBC must be more than the minimum requisite for citizenship then, which was US birth to a US citizen parent. Only US birth to US citizen parents (plural) is greater, thus defining a natural born citizen.

The Supreme Court agreed in Minor v. Happersett, 1874. “The Court held that Minor was a member of the “class” of persons who were natural born citizens. They defined this class as those born in the US to “parents” (plural) who were citizens.” – Leo Donofrio, JD.

A natural born citizen while encompassing citizenship now granted by US birth, which wasn’t possible prior to the 1965 Immigration Act considered by many to be a misinterpretation of the 14th amendment, is a higher quality of citizenship also requiring US citizen “parents” (plural)!

      TeapartyConman, I mean Obamabirthcertifiable.nut
What’s with the new name? Did you think I wouldn’t recognize you and take the time to tell the good folks out there that the Supreme Court made it very clear in their decision on Minor v Happersett that they were NOT setting a precedent by establishing a complete and exclusive definition of natural born citizen?

“Some authorities go further and include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to this class there have been doubts, but never as to the first. For the purposes of this case it is not necessary to solve these doubts.”

Or point out that there is no definition in the Constitution, or that the Supreme Court finally settled the issue in 1898 and that ever since then the law of the land has been that anyone who was born here is a natural born citizen. Gosh, if I didn’t know better, I’d almost think you didn’t enjoy our little discussions of Constitutional law.
