Obama’s Easter Sunday Pastor Rails Against Racist Talk Radio (Compares Rush to KKK!)

The media stood and applauded yesterday when President Obama and his family went to church for Easter. Yesterday’s visit to Shiloh Baptist Church in D.C. shows again that Obama really is a man of faith, the reports seem to suggest.
But while the media rushed to report on the first family’s attendance of the predominately black congregation (and the family’s outfits), what it failed to mention are the views held by the church’s pastor. And while those views have not been delivered in the same fiery manner as Obama’s former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, they sound eerily familiar.
What views are those? How about him saying in 2010 that the country is still racist, that racists get programs on Fox News, and that Rush Limbaugh is the new KKK.
James Parker at WRNO-FM in New Orleans did some digging yesterday about Shiloh Baptist’s pastor, Dr. Wallace Charles Smith. Not only did he find that Smith loves to preach on race, but he noticed Smith even infused race into yesterday’s Easter sermon:
One has to dig into the blog notes from various reporters to piece together the content from the sermon. Aside from the First Couple being honored guests, Pastor Wallace Charles Smith also announces that his 4 week old grandson is attending church for the first time, and a pool reporter noted an interesting perspective on the infant:
“[Pastor Smith] talked about how his baby grandson’s gurgling is actually “talking” because he is saying ‘I am here … they tried to write me off as 3/5 a person in the Constitution, but I am here right now … and is saying I am not going to let anybody from stopping me from being what God wants me to be.’”
Parker asks the obvious questions:
The pastor hears American institutional racism in a baby’s gurgle? Do most people with infants hear Constitutional bigotry in their baby’s gibberish? Did any mention of the 3/5 clause or racism in general make it into the Easter service you attended? Is this pastor’s amazing leap from a baby bark to white oppression another coincidence to add to the list, or has he established a pattern of race baiting and white bashing in the past?
The answer, Parker says, is easily found in a quick YouTube search. During a speech last year at Eastern University, Smith rejected the idea that America is moving past race. In fact, he said racism is alive and rampant in America, especially on the conservative airways. Not only did he insinuate that Fox News hosts are racist, but he also said Rush Limbaugh is a new breed of KKK member:
“Anytime you can have the kind of hate-mongering that continues in the hallowed halls of talk radio it show that Barack’s presidency has not solved the problem,” Smith said in 2010.
“Now Jim Crow wears blue pin stripes … and he doesn’t have to wear white robes anymore, because now he can wear the protective cover of talk radio, or can get a regular news program on Fox. He doesn’t have to wear his white garments anymore.”
He continued: “Even such venerable saints as Rush Limbaugh know the lines they are not to cross. But any of their constituency can hear clear the same vile filth spewing forth in their statements that was once the purview of Robert Shelton and members of the Ku Klux Klan and the White Citizen’s Council.”
Discoverthenetworks.com has an excerpt from one of Wright’s sermons: “Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!… We [Americans] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.”
Sound familiar?
“POTUS sits through service listening with his arm around Malia, nodding,” the pool report said of Obama’s attendance yesterday. And while it’s impossible to know what he was agreeing with, or if the nods were simply out of habit, the fact is that he was once again in attendance as race baiting flowed from the pulpit.
Will Obama have to deny this pastor, too?

I notice that most libs/Dems, along with these kind of pastors seem to criticize the “right” with the same rhetoric that the “right” says about them (but which is true usually) — ridiculing them about being racist, when THEY are the ones who are that way and seem not to be aware of THEIR sins. It’s mind boggling. Christians out there, as a sister in Christ, I implore all to be sure and always check for yourselves what your spiritual leaders are tellling you is the truth or not. Being sincere does not = truth – they are sincerely wrong. To come up with the most correct and truthful conclusion, you need to check out the “other side” – check out the Conservative sites, listen to Rush for yourself (no, he’s not a bit racist), other churches that don’t teach these evil things. If you find they aren’t telling the truth, like this one & Rev. Wright – please leave & spread the word. ……really walk the talk bc without Divine intervention which will only come from sincere repentance & our leaving our wicked ways will God/Jesus come to our rescue in these critical times. I hate it when people twist history like that. The Northern states didn’t want slaves to be counted in representation at all and the Southern states wanted each slave counted. Then they compromised at 3/5. Sounds bad until you understand that if each slave had been counted, the South would have had much more representation in Congress and slavery may NEVER have been ended.

One has to consider not party affiliation, but political ideology. The KKK were indeed formed by Democrats, but this was at the time when the Democratic party was the conservative party. It’s unclear if the KKK is a Democrat or Republican group, but there is no denying that they are an EXTREMIST conservative group. There are varying degrees of racism, at least some of which are apparent in most if not all people. Prejudice is a degree of racism, paranoia can be a degree of racism, fear can be a degree of racism, ignorance can be a degree of racism, and playing the victim can be a degree of racism. All of these show up in all communities regardless of race.

Really? Was it not a Democratic Govenor Orval Faubus that tried to use the Arkansas National Guard to keep black students from attending a white high school? Was it not a Democratic Senitor (Robert Byrd) who used to be a Grand Wizard of the KKK? If you really want to go back in history the Democratic Party was formed by Martin Van Buren in order to maintain power so that they could elect a “Southern Man of Southern Principles” (in other words mantain slavery).
Now, if we really want to drill down and look at the basic ideals of conservative vs liberal on the issue of segregation the easiest way is on a scale:
Fasism(ex. 1930′s Germany)—–Socialism(liberalism)—–the true center—–Conservatisism—-Anarchy
As you can see segregation actually falls to the left. Seems to me that there is a lot of rewriting of history going on these days.

I had a good response that got removed. Basically, the point of the post you are responding to was that it was the Democrats who put a lot of racially unjust institutions into place, but it is not the same Democratic party that exists today. Yes it was Republicans who were ant-slavery, but again, not the same Republican Party we know today. That’s why when discussing the KKK, the only logical way to have the discussion is to speak in terms of political ideologies, progressive and conservative. You said that the Democratic party was created to maintain, or CONSERVE, slavery. So yes, Democrats started the KKK, but I bet very, very few members today would call themselves Democrats.

Several of my closest friends were “black” and we ate together, slept together, fought together and even died together. Yes, I’m still alive but, every time one of my ‘buddies”, whether he was Caucasian, African-American, Asian, Latin or Native American died, a little of me died with him. Only those who have fought side by side and put their lives in their buddies hands and their lives in yours can know what I’m talking about.
Is there still “racism” in America. Sure there is. However, those that have character and integrity have learned to make the best of it from all sides. Some Caucasians, Asians and even Latin and
Native Americans are racists. This may surprise some of you but even some African-Americans are racists and try to promote their hate ideologies everywhere, even fron church pulpits. Was Jesus a racist ? I think not, and anyone who claims to be a Christian, can’t be a racist.
I was born on a cotten farm in North-Central Texas in the 1930′s. Believe me, racial relations have improved just a little since then, regardless of what some racist say. I went back to my native land just a few years ago and I didn’t see ONE sign that said “Whites Only” or “ White” or “Colored”. I even saw school children, black, white and latins waiting in line to drink from thre SAME water fountain. Don‘t tell me things haven’t changed “that much”. When I was a kid, a black person that took a drink on a hot summer day from a “White” water fountain, could be facing a death sentence. from the local citizens. Don’t tell me things “Haven’t changed that much”. There will always be different races and racist among us of ALL colors and cultures. It’s our choice, we can choose to be racist acording to skin color or even tone or we can ALL work together to make a better superior race called the HUMAN RACE.
